Mariah Energy is a distributed micro-utility that manufactures Clean Heat PlusPower(TM) (CHP) systems. The Heat PlusPower system is recognized by the Globe Foundation as an innovative technology that has been developed and applied to solve pressing environmental issues such as air quality and energy efficiency. The system provides reliable, highly efficient on-site heat and electricity.
Compared to traditional coal-fired plants, the Heat PlusPower system produces 55% less CO2 and 97% less NOx emissions, with an overall energy efficiency of up to, and over 80%. As well as benefiting the environment, the systems also improve the customer's bottom line by reducing utility costs.
Currently, Heat PlusPower systems have been installed throughout Canada and into the United States. Facilities that benefit include multi-unit residential complexes, recreation centers, swimming pools, hotels, and light industrial facilities, etc., as these have a thermal demand throughout the year.
The judging criteria for this category evaluated the success of the application of the technology as to how it substantially reduces environmental impacts while contributing to overall efficiency, and operational improvement within the facilities that utilize the technology.
Mariah recognizes the support of the Government of Canada's Technology Early Action Measures, Natural Resources Canada's CANMET Energy Technology Centre, and Environment Canada for the policy support that allowed for the development of this technology.
