Subslover,
Like you I recently had occasion to visit my friendly neighbourhood proctologist... I've always wanted piles - but of money not the haemorrhoidal variety.
I was advised that one treatment for piles was "a four finger stretch" (I leave that to your eye-watering imagination). It clearly works on fiscal piles as well as proctological ones for if Lynas shafts us in a big enough way it will bring tears to our eyes whilst getting rid of great quantities of our money.
Roll on the day that LAMP is in full swing and Lynas is earning great quantities of dosh - just as long as by then I'm not pushing up the daisies and no longer worrying about piles (of either variety).
Subslover - Treatment for Ulcers....
Drink lots of magnesia, take your daily omeprazole (aka "the answer to the drinking man's prayer"), and then increase your daily dose of medicinal whisk(e)y (taken to ease the aggravation experienced from being a Lynas shareholder). This will protect your ulcer from flare-ups and so will leave you in that mellow state of pain- and stress-free inebriation that will allow you to enjoy to the full the promised uplands of joy and plenty that is surely awaiting us all just around the corner!!!
Failing that - cut your losses and invest in a house of ill-repute... at least you should get concessionary rates and you won't be the one that's getting f****d as we all are at present!
Lynas's Official Announcement
The announcement can be found here.
NOW can we get going!!
China's Behind-the-Scenes Role - Is there any concrete evidence?
In quite a few postings there are statements that Chinese money is financing the opposition to LAMP. Whilst absolutely plausible and unsurprising, is there actually any evidence for these claims or is it all just supposition?
If there were documented evidence of a Chinese hand pulling the strings, I would have thought that Lynas might have put that information into the public domain, at the very least to discredit the protestors as being stooges to a foreign power which is damaging Malaysia's economic interests.
A very well considered analysis of the modern populist "environmental movement".
Sadly it is true. I was a strong supporter of Greenpeace in the '60s and '70s but became increasingly disillusioned with their developing antagonism to virtually anything scientific. It seems to me that in the UK at least such organisations are now the refuge of members of that section of society who prefer to have all the benefits of "The Welfare State" without contributing anything in return. Tales of protestors taking the morning off their protesting so as to collect and cash their welfare cheque are legion in the tabloid press.
A very sad descent into illogical bigotry for what was initially a high-minded and intelligent organisation.
Mount Weld Reserves Significantly Increased
A new study on Rare Earth content at Mount Weld show a 362% increase in reserves of ore and a 260% increase in Rare Earth content as compared with the 2005 feasability study. This should give the mine a life of more than 25 years at the currently proposed rate of production!
See report here.
Now all we need to do is get LAMP up and running in full production.
Interesting Nugget of Information in Bloomberg Report
(quote)
"Lynas has thousands of tons of unprocessed raw materials piled up at its Mount Weld mine in Western Australia ready for export, Chief Executive Officer Nicholas Curtis said June 29. The processing hold-up has had repercussions for clients with some reversing plans to open factories near the Malaysian refinery. Instead they set up in China, which currently supplies 90 percent of the world’s rare earths, he said then".
I hope that little snippet sinks into the consciousness of those trying to make political capital by sinking LAMP. No developing country can afford to scare away hi-tec businesses such as those using rare earth metals.
I Cannot Believe You, Socke777!!!
The price is up 50% and you're grumbling that you are still making a loss!! Just think what your loss would be if today's rise hadn't occurred. At the very least this is the start of the beginning of a recovery in a very depressed SP.
Like you I am nursing a huge loss on this stock but I believe that in the fullness of time it will all come good (touch wood!)- but after a wee bit longer than I had initially calculated.
Is the Devil in the Detail?
(quote)
"The TOL will enable Lynas to conduct trial processing of lanthanide concentrates in stages and in limited quantities under close and continuous surveillance by the authorities".
I hope that this is an honest move by the Government which, when satisfied that all is satisfactory with the operation of LAMP, will very quickly allow LYNAS to ramp LAMP up to full industrial-scale production.
If, however, production is restricted to "limited quantities" for a significantly long period of time, it might be that they are trying to have it both ways - appease the protestors by reigning in LYNAS's operation but be able still to appear in favour of inward industrial investment.
Time will tell.
TOL Issued !!
Lynas announces that they have received the TOL and will commence shipping concentrate prior to the first feed to the kiln in October.
See the company's announcement here.
No Option But Wait For The Malaysian Election
I'm in Lynas for the long haul, having bought in just before the sh*t hit the fan with protests over LAMP in Malaysia. I am confident that once LAMP gets into production the SP will climb steeply. However, while there is great uncertainty about LAMP, the SP will be severely depressed and it is easy to see why there have been sell-calls which have depressed the SP even further.
Nothing will be done by the Malaysian Government before the upcoming General Election. If if it holds off issuing the Operating Licence until after the election, it may hang onto the votes of some voters who are currently against LAMP and who might feel (incorrectly) that the current government is still open to being persuaded to reject LAMP ("otherwise they would have issued the licence already"). Every vote counts and those few votes may make the difference between success and failure. If the current government hangs onto power the licence will be issued soon after.
The Opposition has opportunistically opposed LAMP because it can see that there are votes to be won. If it wins the election it may continue in its opposition to LAMP and refuse an operating licence. This will have serious consequences for Malaysia - it will be seen as having a problem with inward industrial investment and companies will invest elsewhere, plus, I would think, Lynas will take some form of legal action against the government. The Opposition party cannot simply do a U-turn if it wins the election and so if it doesn't wish to destroy inward investment it will have to find a compromise such as insisting on new conditions which Lynas will almost certainly accept rather than losing all its investment in Malaysia.
Whichever scenario unfolds, it means more delay and we all have to sit and wait until the results of the Malaysian election are known and hope that the current government is returned.
Down 30%!!
Now this does worry me as the matter has now clearly moved out of the realms of rational discussion into the realms of ignorance manipulated for political gain.
Such a situation is not amenable to discussion with those involved in trying to prevent LAMP from starting up as they cannot / will not look further than their bigotry allows them. They will only be satisfied with achievement of their personal goals, be they political or otherwise. If they don't achieve those goals - and I sincerely hope they don't - one can only hope that they gradually fade out of the picture as time goes on and their objections are shown to be baseless. That means that Lynas will have to run an exemplary operation where LAMP is concerned and give the protesters absolutely no ammunition to bolster their case. That is something within Lynas's power.
Outside of Lynas's domain, one can only hope that 2 things also happen. Firstly, now that the legalities have been or soon will be fully satisfied, the Malaysian authorities, in a sensible and restrained fashion, must prevent the matter from escalating further into physical activity against LAMP. Secondly, we can only hope that the current government wins the up-coming general election, since the opposition shows every sign of intending to prevent LAMP from becoming operational on the spurious grounds of safety, despite the overwhelming scientific evidence that LAMP is perfectly safe.
If that begowned, bemasked and behooded protestor outside Lynas's office in Sydney is indicative of the level of concern over radio-active exposure that is felt by those opposing LAMP, then all I can say is that, living as I do on a piece of granite with a naturally raised background level of radioactivity, I shall not be expecting to see any protesters over here. No doubt they would be fearful that their goolies would be irradiated beyond safe levels.
The report of the Malaysian Parliament's Select Committee on LAMP, which supported Lynas's plans, was debated in the Malaysian Parliament on 19 June. Here are Lynas's comments.
Now can we get on with the job in hand without further interruption?
Here's Lynas's press release.
Quarterly Report Still Upbeat, but...
we still await the outcome of the appeal against the award by Malaysia's Atomic Energy Licencing Board of a Temporary Operating Licence in respect of Lynas's Advanced Material Plant. If that appeal is rejected then we should have a clear run to start up.
Quarterly Report
And Now We Wait ... Again!
The appeal in Malaysia against the temporary licence for the LAMP has been heard by the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation on 17th April. The date on which he will give his verdict is not yet known.

Technology Metals Research & Jack Lifton Love GWMGF - still!!
In a persuasive report on the greater commercial impact of Heavy REEs, Jack Lifton, the author of the piece, once more reaffirms his ongoing love for GWMGF!!
Rare Earth Bull
Interesting overview of the Heavy REE market: Rare Earth Bull
The report persuasively stresses the greater importance of Heavy REEs as compared with Light REEs. This is not the first report that stresses the commercial importance of HREEs so one must take notice of it.
Mount Weld predominantly has LREEs in the Central Lanthanide Deposit although the Duncan Deposit shows higher grades of HREEs, particularly Dysprosium (1.27% of total REEs), Gadolinium (1.99%) and Yttrium (5.17%).
It is still early days and the company needs to establish its product pipeline so as to earn cash, but I wonder whether even at this early stage there are plans to open up the Duncan Deposit sooner rather than later.
Just When You Thought Things Were Getting Better...
Legal Challenges to the Malaysian AELB's Decision
I hope that this will be just a small fly in the ointment and will be settled soon without any delay in start-up and not in favour of the applicants.
Smug B*****d - but I'm glad you were right :) !!!
Lynas's Official Announcement on Temporary Licence for LAMP
Lynas Announcement on Licence for LAMP
Quarterly Report Is Upbeat, Even Humorous In Parts
Last Quarterly Report of 2011
The Company has issued an upbeat report, appearing to take for granted that, having made all the necessary changes required by the Malaysian Authorities, they will be starting operations at LAMP in the 2nd quarter of this year. The fall in REE prices is put into context.
They announce the first "Lost Time Injury" at the Western Australia site in its 4 years history - a finger squashed in a vehicle door whilst the driver was getting out - OUCH!!!
Is $11 Reasonable? Not to Me It Isn't!
I'm into Micromet long term since I firmly believe that just one of its products, Blinatumomab, is going to be a blockbuster and that its BiTE technology can be developed big-time. On that basis $11 is chickenfeed.
Unfortunately, Micromet's board is endorsing the bid as stated in Section C of the Recitals in the "Agreement and Plan of Merger", downloadable here:-
Merger Document
With the marked reversal of the long slow downward drift in the SP until just a few weeks ago, it is clear that someone knew that an agreed bid was being put together and decided to capitalise on it. Insider shenanigans, anybody?
GOLAR Is Positioning Itself Confidently for 2012/13
The company are sufficiently confident to be buying 2 "old" LNG carriers (one needing refurbishment)as interims until their newbuilds are complete.

Golar purchase of Gandria and reactivation of Hilli
Golar LNG ("Golar" or "the Company") is pleased to announce that it has become 100% owner of the LNG Carrier Gandria. Golar has purchased the remaining 50% share interest in Bluewater Gandria N.V, the owning company of the vessel, from an affiliate of Bluewater Energy Services B.V. ("Bluewater"). The price has been agreed all-in at $19.5 million. Prior to the transaction, the company was owned by Golar (50%) and Bluewater (50%). The vessel which is a Moss type carrier and built in 1977 has been laid up since September 2008. The vessel is well maintained, and is a good trading vessel as well as a strong candidate for conversion to FSRU and storage. A firm decision will be made on the vessel reactivation within the next few weeks.
Golar has in addition made a firm to commitment to reactivate the LNG Carrier Hilli which is also a Moss type carrier built in 1975. The vessel has been brought to Keppel Shipyard for a $15 million upgrading project. The Company is targeting her readiness for service prior to the end of March 2012. Golar has already received proposals for chartering of the vessel.
Golar's CEO Doug Arnell said in a comment "Golar's focus remains to be a high quality operator of modern LNG vessels. However the purchase of 50% of Gandria was done as an opportunistic deal at a price level we find very attractive. The reintroduction of Gimi, Hilli, and Gandria in the market will secure additional earnings growth for our company in the next quarters while we are waiting for our first newbuildings to come out in 2013. Long term, these three Moss designed vessels are ideal candidates for storage, FSRUs and other LNG infrastructure projects.

Up 14% today! - Can't grumble at that.
Increased Estimate for Central Lanthanide & Duncan Deposit
Lynas has increased the estimate of Rare Earth content at Mount Weld by 37%, made up of a 51% increase at the Central Lanthanide Deposit and 19% at the Duncan Deposit.
The estimate for total Rare Earth Oxides is now 1.9 billion tons as against 1.4 billion tons in 2010.
Increase in Estimated REO Resources at Mount Weld
Gives you a warm feeling, doesn't it!!!
$8.4 today and going up like a rocket!
If logic has anything to do with it, blinatumomab's commercial potential has been recognised and that means it looks like it's going to be a BLOCKBUSTER.
If logic has nothing to do with it then we can expect to see the price fall due to short-termists prematurely cashing in their shares and so missing out on the huge upside.
The National Cancer Institute Shows Confidence in Blinatumomab.
The NCI has signed a Co-operative Research & Development Agreement (CRADA) with Micromet to progress blinatumomab's development against B-Cell-derived haematologic malignancies (lymphoblastic leukaemia and various lymphomas). Initially this will be in trials using blinatumomab as first-line therapy in newly diagnosed patients.
This is one more (large) piece of evidence that blinatumomab is being recognised as a significant new treatment in haematologic malignancies.
It is becoming increasingly clear that BiTE antibody therapy has a bright future ahead and this can only be good for Micromet.
Press Release
Malaysian AELB to discuss Licence on 30th January.
The application for a temporary licence has been submitted and the Malaysian Atomic Energy Licencing Board will discuss it on 30th January 2012. It will then be discussed by the full Malaysian Cabinet.
Lynas Announcement
GET REAL, PEOPLE. Stop kidding yourselves.
Over the last year this company has sold itself to the public (with help from various share touts) on the basis of just one drug - Libigel, a cheap, safe medication needing no expensive research or development costs. Potentially it could have been very, very lucrative as its target patients would be willing to pay a huge premium for the treatment because it would improve their sex-life, and on this basis Biosante shares climbed impressively. There is absolutely nothing wrong with selling (and profiting from) a product to improve ones sex-life but such a scenario only works if the product can be shown to work. Unfortunately, Libigel has been shown to work no better than placebo so that any improvement in the individual's sex-life was simply due to the fact that they were receiving some sort of treatment, either real or placebo, not because their testosterone level rose (those on placebo had no rise in testosterone levels but experienced just about the same improvement).
It is no wonder that investors (me included) are bailing out all over the place as the hoped-for quick, large profit has just evaporated. Certainly hang onto the shares in the hope of some recovery but be realistic - they are not going to return to anywhere near their recent levels. The other drugs in their pipeline are years away from being marketed even if they are shown to be effective.
At the present time, the hope of Biosante producing profits is just a speck on the horizon and unless the company is seen as being ripe for a takeover (which I doubt) it is only profits, actual or anticipated, that will drive the SP upwards.
Impressive Trial Results for Blinatumomab at ASH 2011
Blinatumomab was once again the winner of many plaudits at the American Society of Hematology, its high efficacy being noted once more. Good commentary on Ohad Hammer's blog.
5 Winners of ASH 2011
The omens are good (touch wood!!) for a successful (and remunerative) product when all the regulatory hurdles have been jumped. Even before that the SP should sky-rocket.
Clinical Trials Provide Further Evidence for Blinatumomab's Efficacy.
Clinical trial results were presented at the latest Annual Meeting of the American Society of Hematology and confirm that blinatumomab induces durable responses in patients who have relapsed on other forms of treatment. Additionally, the treatment is nowhere near as toxic as current forms of treatment.
Blinatumomab Efficacy - further evidence from Clinical Trials
The drug is proving itself and this can only be good for the SP.
American Society of Hematology - December Meeting
Micromet will be presenting the updated results of their on-going studies at next month's meeting of ASH. 3 papers are particularly interesting and show that things are heading in the right direction with new avenues of treatment opening up.
All very encouraging.
Abstracts of the presentations can be downloaded from here (search on blinatumomab).
Malema Verdict Due Tomorrow
Irrespective of what the verdict is, South Africans' opinions ("The New Age - 8 November) of him are informative with totally polarised opinions. Many see him as the dangerous demigod he is whilst his supporters see him as their only hope in getting their share of the wealth. His supporters are overwhelmingly racist and uneducated (as can be seen in their postings) and that is a dangerous combination as common sense does not come into it.
The posting by a white supporter of the ANC (Annelie de Wet) correctly states the problem - Malema has identified some of the real problems from which South Africa is suffering and attacks them vociferously, but he provides no answers. He only uses his rhetoric for his own ends - to build up his power-base of disaffected youth.
Unless and until the South African politicians can excise the festering cancre from which Malema draws his strength, foreign investment in South Africa is at risk.
Remove that cancre and I'll invest in GWMGF without a second thought; leave the cancre to continue festering and any investment I might make would be short term and opportunistic , not the sort of investment which does a company any good at all.
DOOM on DOOM!! but reassurance in the last paragraph - PHEW!!!!!
