Now this does worry me as the matter has now clearly moved out of the realms of rational discussion into the realms of ignorance manipulated for political gain.

Such a situation is not amenable to discussion with those involved in trying to prevent LAMP from starting up as they cannot / will not look further than their bigotry allows them. They will only be satisfied with achievement of their personal goals, be they political or otherwise. If they don't achieve those goals - and I sincerely hope they don't - one can only hope that they gradually fade out of the picture as time goes on and their objections are shown to be baseless. That means that Lynas will have to run an exemplary operation where LAMP is concerned and give the protesters absolutely no ammunition to bolster their case. That is something within Lynas's power.

Outside of Lynas's domain, one can only hope that 2 things also happen. Firstly, now that the legalities have been or soon will be fully satisfied, the Malaysian authorities, in a sensible and restrained fashion, must prevent the matter from escalating further into physical activity against LAMP. Secondly, we can only hope that the current government wins the up-coming general election, since the opposition shows every sign of intending to prevent LAMP from becoming operational on the spurious grounds of safety, despite the overwhelming scientific evidence that LAMP is perfectly safe.
