The only thing this will manage to do is make the 'droids even more rabid and passionate for their cause

And that in itself can backfire on AMD. Think about how
Mac zealots turned off many corporate and institutional IT
types in the 1990s and hastened Apple's marginalization
to some degree.

It's clear that AMD has been unsuccessful ramping the Opteron to the market share they wanted, but that's because they are trying to beat Intel at their own game by copying their marketing techniques, copying their branding techniques, and even copying their positioning.

I think AMD is scared ****less over platformization. They
saw how successful it was for Centrino and they are trying
to slow or disrupt Intel's plan to extend it to servers and
the desktop anyway it can. AMD can't possible match Intel
in offering the whole package in one seamless unit so a
PR oriented series of law suits is its desperate response.

Hey Beamer, I've been spending a lot of time in The Matrix, and boy, what an alternate reality it is over there:

- It's not about monopoly ... except when it is.
- Damages will be $10 billion before punitive.
- AMD's business is strong, but it could have been "really strong."
- Intel is run by a bunch of whores and moronic simpletons.
- OEMs have a virtual "gun to their head" and so do consumers.
- Intel better settle this quickly and set aside a ton of money for AMD and its shareholders.

Even Keith has very strong feelings towards this, and he's one of the reasonable guys there. Meanwhile, Dougie is compiling a list of my posts and his "wise" rebuttals (and he won't even give me any credit for teaching him the #msg-[message_id] trick. <sob!>)

It's a thread full of monkeys over there.

I am not at all concerned at Intel has done anything illegal or unethical. What I am concerned is putting Intel's fate in the hands of a jury. Juries couldn't figure out the OJ killed Nicole or that Michael diddles little boys. You want them deciding Intel's fate when AMD is whining sniveling and playing the victim?

Re: If anything, this will create a division between realists who believe in free market competition

LOL !! If you believe in the freedom to compete you aren't a "realist?"

Intel is going down on this one, watch and see.
