Where did it say rejection? Just to be fair, nowhere on the page said rejected.

Almost all patents are rejected the first time, especially if it is completely new and not just a small derivation of an existing concept, it is pretty standard. The patent applicant and patent examiner then usually have a sit down and get into the details.

I do not own any patents myself, but two family members of mine have 5 between them. (non relating fields)

Actually, the patent application appears to be proceeding well, with important claims being granted.
