Here is the law. All banks have to abide by it. There are some exceptions depending on the age of the account or if the customer has a history of NFS.

Checks for $5,000 and Less

For check deposits totaling less than $5000 in a day, the bank must make $200 available to you the next business day. The second business day, $600 must be available to you. The rest of the deposit must be available by the 3rd business day. Your bank or credit union’s check holding rules may differ, as these are the maximum times the law allows. For example, the policy of Wells Fargo, Bank of America, and Chase is to make 100% of most check’s funds available by the next business day.

Since you are a customer I would call the bank and ask them the status since you read about it over the weekend.

WhenI read the article the first thing that jumped out at me was that it was a paycheck.

I am pretty sure, but not positive, that in New York funds are available immediately when a paycheck is deposited.

There were many years that we lived paycheck to paycheck and I don’t ever remember funds not being available immediately
