Too little to late? Ironically the locals started showing up in numbers after Comstock received it's financing and the price of gold started getting media attention. The mine has been planned and promised since 2008. Back then not a peep from the locals. I think they might have a little case of gold fever.

Gold is only down 5.06% today so it's not really that dramatic. Long term technical trend is still firmly intact. Gold is also up huge on the year. In fact you could argue that this is a healthy pull back of sorts. Volatility to be expected. Support at 1650/1600 will be holding strong IMO. There will be some good buying opportunities in the days and weeks to come in all commodities and especially the metals sector.

I you believe air permit comes in Oct and we are go then buy down here somewhere. If not they wait for under 2$ after Oct does not deliver. Current price based on anticipated production IMO.

Delay of Production is coming from a lack of Air permit and the approaching winter snow. I'm now thinking spring 2012 IF they get air and if they can keep paying staff etc. That's 7- 8 months away. Lode said they would be in production in 2008,09,10,11. Last straw for me.

I fully agree. But I think something is up with this air permit. Gryphon gold another company I'm invested in Nevada will be producing very soon. They have all there permits. Somehow Gryphon management was able to do it but Lode can not. Better management probably. Lode has some nicer drill results but it don't mean jack if you can dig it up.

They can not start production without an air permit.

This is the big hold up.

The special use permit may only have to do with exploration but what good is exploration without production...

The lack of an air permit is a show stopper...

Storey County Planning Commission Mining Meeting

Hundreds of Storey County homeowners packed a Planning Commission meeting Thursday evening, in protest of mining near Virginia City.

Comstock Mining Inc. is requesting a special use permit to do exploratory drilling operations south of Virginia City, in the Gold Hill area. Residents are up in arms because it is an historic district and they don't believe active mining is safe in their communities. They're especially fearful of open pit mining, which could follow the exploration drilling.

Comstock Mining says its initial data proves there is a substantial amount of ore near Gold Hill, and it could mean a huge economic impact for the county. It estimates at least $2 billion worth of gold and silver can be mined just in that area.

Residents, however, maintain the mining project will negatively affect tourism because of traffic, noise and dust. They worry about their property values as well.

The planning commission has decided to postpone making a decision until August 4th.

As part of its campaign against pit mining in the Comstock area, the Comstock Residents Association called on citizens to attend the Thursday, July 7, meeting of the Storey County Planning Commission at 6 p.m. at the Storey County Courthouse. The CRA is calling it “the most important public meeting yet on the future of the Comstock.”

The meeting regards a special use permit (SUP) application from Comstock Mining Inc. It would allow the company to drill from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. These times reflect an amended SUP, which also features a drilling area about half the size of what was proposed in the original application.

I hope your right but are you sure they were honking in praise?
I just feel as though I was mislead in Vancouver about the numbers of opposition and that kind of get's my goat. The private land might be ok for now but the Dayton property where all these nice drill results are happening might be another fight with another group of people. I'm tempted to shift into some of my other investments where ignorant old hippies won't shoot themselves in the foot and inturn shoot me in the foot. Like I said I hope your right but I find this ignorance on the part of the locals very frustrating for me as an investor. I suppose that is there aim to kill jobs and kill any investment in Comstock and inturn investment in there town.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the DD, good job. I am concerned that when I met with Winfield and DeGasperis in Vancouver they said it's only around 6 people heavily opposed to the mine. After looking at the photo's from the Comstock residents association it appears to be more like 30-40 who showed up to protest. They say hundreds on the web site so I know they are lying as well. But then they say 20 to 1 against in a petition? Who to believe? But what also disturbs me a little is I recognize one of the protesters is the dude with the beard from the History channel Modern marvels video on youtube.

You would think he would be all for creating jobs and mining.
I guess he is just about living in the past. Still I find it
disturbing that I was pherhaps mislead as to the size of this group and to the lengths they will go with regaurds to there own ignorant stubborness. I'm afraid that they may get legal on this.
What to you think?

Yes. Sorry for the late reply. After the conference I went to go watch Boston slap us in the face. 8-1 ouch!. Needless to say I had to drown my sorrows last night. he he. Anyway,I did see the presentation and it was basically stuff we already know and mostly a general overview. Although there were some pictures of the machinery they have on order in there and that was new.

After the presentation I spoke personally with both DeGasperis and John Winfield for some time at the booth. John was very excited about his baby and is a very passionate character. I actually enjoyed talking with him very much. I was able to get a cost per OZ estimate estimate from him for you guys. I brought up Allied Nevada and Winfield thinks it's much lower than Allied because there process does not require the expensive chemicals and because they have such good ore near surface he is sticking to between $400-500 maybe even lower.

The opinions of Winfield and DeGasperis are that the local situation is most likely not going to be an issue. They said it's mostly just 6 people who are gunning for them. They made the point that have alot of support aswell. I mentioned Nevex mining in 1986 and how the local in the video claims the locals stopped the mining. Winfield said that was not true and that Nevex pulled out because they could not make a go of it with Gold at $300 per OZ. They appear to be positively optimistic and excited. But one never knows, they are not going to tout anything negative at a convention like this of course.

I also brought up the road issue for expanding the ultimate pit and Winfield said that he basically owns the road and there is also an alternate route to use in the meantime. So all in all I left with some more confidence but basically no massive new info for you guys.

Everyone always says one of the reasons to invest in a mine in nevada is its a pollitcally stable area that has laws to protect miners etc. It appears that the real danger of mining in Nevada is ignorant stupidity. No wonder Nevada has lost it's thrown as best place in the world to mine. That honor now goes to Saskatcheuan Canada according to a recent pole. Living in the past is no way to win the future for America.

Well at least one economist and former Federal Reserve Chairman advocates a return to the gold standard... Allen Greenspan. Here is a quote from his recent interview on Fox News.

"We have at this particular stage a fiat money which is essentially money printed by a government and it's usually a central bank which is authorized to do so. Some mechanism has got to be in place that restricts the amount of money which is produced, either a gold standard or a currency board, because unless you do that all of history suggest that inflation will take hold with very deleterious effects on economic activity... There are numbers of us, myself included, who strongly believe that we did very well in the 1870 to 1914 period with an international gold standard."

I'm signed up to attend the conference in Vancouver next week. Just happens to be in my neck of the woods. Sorry I have to call BS on this post too. We have had several recent boots on the ground reports that the drilling is moving full steam ahead just as it has been doing on private land for years. Not to mention a fly over in an airplane today by cessna from the yahoo board who confirmed drill rigs working. I'll have to call BS unless you can provide a link or some kind of evidence. What dirt have you managed to dig up on the CEO? Just curious. Please provide links for that doosey aswell.

We have not yet designed the pit, so any noise you may hear about is based on premature worry. The local opposition, a very minor minority, deserve to voice their opinions regarding any local operations. In addition, there are thousands of residents that are very supportive. Our reclamation bond is set and held in trust by the government and is more than sufficient to cover any issues, should Comstock Mining not fulfill its legal permitted requirements. Our major investor is a long-standing environmental naturalist that has some amazing ideas for the land use after mining production.

I appreciate your ideas and have sent them along to our operations team. But we are a planning organization and very little happens without very thorough evaluation and expert alignment with the goal.

Basically I emailed her to ask a few questions and because I looked at google earth from street view and top down google earth
'I'm an instant geologist now right ha ha' I know, I know... Anyway the pit area appeared to be basically out in the middle of knowhere with alot of dirt mounds right at the side of the road wich got me thinking. Firstly what's the big deal? Secondly a pit with high walls is basically a natural sound/dust buffer. I'm not a geologist but maybe they could even go as far as to stack up dirt around the outer portions of the pit to block views and noise for the few people it may effect? I also reccomended some visual aids to this regaurd for the upcoming meeting. ha ha. Ok I know...Keep it to yourself wiseguys. Anyway, I'm sure they don't want guys like me back seat driving but it was very nice of Julie to give me a response.

On another note: I recently read that Nevada has the highest unemployment rate and biggest debt in the country of all the states 12.5%...Job's anyone? Plenty of food for thought here.It's all an interesting story for the press to sink there teeth into. Every one loves a little drama and controversy sell papers, but I think the drama has bee over played now. To quote Degasperis from the article " WE ARE GOING TO MINE"

Doing a little digging and found this and I also find it interesting that Utah is using a debit card system so you don't have to lug around your silver bars in a purse when you buy a car. he he. Although I guess you could if you wanted too?

I agree this is setting up for a big bounce. Gold and silver
are correcting nicely and we have our best drill results to date a bloody bonanza infact. Maybe someone got cold feet,or maybe because we have not heard any Amex news yet? Good point but 20 at first just to get the ball rolling with plans to expand. I'm also starting to think 3,250,000 by 2013 is probably low ball estimate considering the rate we are hitting ore. Better to over deliver than under promise IMO. The production staff has good experience and I'm sure they are very familiar with amounts produced at other mines like Allied in the area so I think it's safe to say it's def in the cards.
