Some Fat Chances for Investors
http://yahoo.businessweek.com/bwdaily/dnflash/aug2005/nf20050818_0126_db016.htm
HEAVY BUT LIVELY. That doesn't mean mega-caps aren't worth owning. A handful should be core holdings in every long-term portfolio, say investment managers. And investors inevitably return to the safety of the biggest stocks when they get skittish, notes Jeanne Mockard, portfolio manager of the George Putnam Fund of Boston.
The trick is to buy the elephants that can still dance -- those large-cap stocks likely to increase earnings faster than anticipated, says Nick Raich, director of research at Zacks. If they have a healthy dividend, all the better, says Mockard.
Following are the top 10 of the largest market cap stocks -- all with market capitalization of more than $150 billion -- ranked by the Zacks proprietary earnings momentum score (where 1 is the strongest and 100 the weakest).
Intel (INTC )
As the king of computer chips, Intel serves as the bellwether of the technology sector, which is finally bouncing back after being flattened by the burst bubble. Zacks rates Intel 33 for positive earnings momentum, and its stock is up 21% in the past year, to $26. Its yield is 1.23%.
The hidden currents powering Intel's next gen chips
http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=25496
AT NEXT WEEK'S Intel developer forum, the firm is due to announce a next generation x86 processor core. The current speculation is this new core is going too be based on one of the existing Pentium M cores. I think it’s going to be something completely different.
The change is so big in fact, it’s the reason for Apple’s processor switch. Indeed the phrase given when Steve Jobs announced the switch, "performance per watt" is the very same phrase being used by Intel spokesmen.
According to the Apple announcement, the reason it is switching is "performance per watt". Steve Jobs showed a graph with PowerPC projected at 15 computation units per watts and Intel’s projected at 70 units per watt. Intel must have figured out a way to reduce power consumption 4 fold. How? Can this even be done?

Leakage problem solved
http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=25512
Think happy thoughts here people, from what several sources have told the INQ, the leakage problem is solved, and I mean solved, not lessened. This will be a massive gain for Intel, and unless AMD and IBM can match it, it will pretty much hand it the mobile space, not to mention anything else where power matters.
So, if you hear gushingly good things about 45nm coming from IDF, believe it. If you hear anyone pooh-poohing Intel and its process tech because of the debacle that was 90nm, just point and laugh. This one will be very very good. µ
New Quad Xeon MP gives Opteron a hard time
http://www.x86-secret.com/popups/articleswindow.php?id=126
http://www.x86-secret.com/articles/cpu/truland/quadcore-6.htm
Conclusion
The conclusion is simple: For a first attempt, it is a master stroke. INTEL shows here its absolute supremacy (let us not be afraid of the words) in the field of the chipsets. One is, here, well far from ATI which galère since years to leave a correct southbridge. First chipset "house" intended for the waiters four-processors Xeon MP, E8500 does not disappoint and leaves far behind the chipsets of ServerWorks, which rested on its bay-trees since years.
At all events, the Truland platform can be now measured with quadri-Will choose with weapons of weight. If, side CPU, the AMD/Intel match always remain in favour of AMD, of a short head, force is to note that side chipset, the advantage is with INTEL. Indeed, in addition to rare chipsets AMD, very basic, no manufacturer "pro" currently presented himself to create a platform advanced around Opteron 8xx of AMD. However, the large accounts, lorsqu’they buy a waiter quad, does not buy that CPUs, they buy a whole. And the effectiveness of a platform is not measured with the simple performances of its CPUs...
Intel in training tie-up with India's NIIT

Arroz con Pollo
Puerto Rican Chicken And Rice
Serves 4
1 tablespoon Vegetable oil
1 pound Boneless, Skinless, Chicken breasts cut into thick strips
1 medium Onion; chopped
1 medium Green pepper; chopped
1 medium Red pepper; chopped
1 Garlic clove; minced
1 teaspoon Chili powder
1/2 teaspoon Ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon Salt
1/2 teaspoon Ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon Turmeric
1 cup Uncooked rice
1 medium Tomato; seeded & chopped
2 cups Chicken broth
Heat oil in large skillet over medium heat. Cook chicken 8 to 10 minutes or until brown on all sides. Remove from pan. Add onion, green pepper, red pepper, garlic, chili powder, cumin, salt, pepper and turmeric. Cook 2 to 3 minutes or until vegetables are tender. Add rice and tomatoes; stir until rice is lightly browned. Add broth; bring mixture to a boil, place chicken pieces on top of mixture. Cover and simmer 20 minutes. To serve, fluff with fork stirring in chicken pieces.
You can make this recipe allot quicker, if you use frozen Green Pepper, and frozen onion, available in most supermarkets (1 cup chopped each), and the last time I made it, for the cut up chicken, I substituted 2 cans of "Tyson Chicken Breast In A Can" from the Costco warehouse grocery store, a can of diced tomatoes (with juice), instead of the seeded/chopped tomato, and Minute Rice, which I added during the last 5 minutes of the simmer. It came out GREAT, with MUCH less fuss
P.S. - I also doubled the garlic, but that's just me

We now live in a day where people eagerly await a "broken" $450 video card, and the makers really want you to pick up two.
That may be a downright bargain compared to the talk of future $1,200 cards.
We now live in a day where magazines put together $13,000 "dream machines" that don't do a whole lot better than those that cost 10-15% as much.
Did you all get rich when I wasn't looking? Somehow I doubt that.

What I read wasn't too bad, IMO.
He's criticizing your judgement. This sounds like a personal attack. That post should be deleted...
SNORT SNORT..... Good one
What I'm saying is that AMD is delivering 65nm parts, in terms of performance (power and speed). If they've done that without "using up" any of the process techniques developed for 65nm, then Intel's problems are larger than even I thought (is that possible?).
Delivering 65nm parts huh? That is your interpretation of the results, and not part of any statement that AMD has made, that I've seen. IMO, That makes your statement conjecture, not fact, despite the attempt to portray it otherwise. Also, what you claim, is a Very Big IF, that has not matched any semiconductor manufacturing process reality, in my experience so far. It sounds to me like you want to have it both ways, claiming the performance of 65nm, without using up the 65nm process. JMO, but It hasn't worked out that way in the > 12 years I've been working with the 5 semiconductor manufacturing processes I've helped bring on line. But maybe you know better.

What I read wasn't too bad, IMO.
All I posted was AMD has rather clearly started shipping technology that is part of the next node (65nm) and some links to show that AMD is moving away from "jumping" from node to node and instead incrementally improving their process.
Even IF that were true, which it's clearly not, to anyone who has actually worked in any semiconductor process, it sounds like what you're saying, is that in order to maintain parity with intels currently shipping 90nm process, AMD has already blown a portion it's 65nm wad. If that is true, then that doesn't bode well at all, for AMD's process..... ummmmm I mean, IBM's process, going forward. IMO
This has been proven many times. Why would anyone respond to someone like this, when the most likely scenario is that the post will be deleted as a "personal attack".
"Jeez, they said I have no understanding whatsoever. That's a personal attack!"
Not really. Not having an understanding of something, does not necessarily indicate a personal defect, but mearly indicates a lack of knowledge about a particular topic. The root cause may have nothing to do with the persons abilities, but such blatent inaccuracies depicted in the post, either indicates a complete lack of understanding of the particular topic, or else a willful attempt to deceive. I asumed the former. While commenting on the latter, would certainly be a personal attack, pointing out that a blatent inaccuracy indicates the poster has a complete lack of understanding, and pointing to a web document that would explain such things, is actually an attempt to educate, and IMO, does not fall under the TOS guidelines of a personal attack.
Of course, people should feel free to report it as a TOS if they so desire.
[edit] FYI, Links to all posts on this specific topic, have been forwarded to IH Admin Matt, along with a request for feedback on TOS disposition. I'll let the board know of any response.
AMD has cut power use roughly in half with its latest shipping process - buyers of the X2 and Opteron Dual core parts are shocked to see them using less power than the nearly identical single core parts they're replacing. The only way that's possible, IMHO, is that AMD has phased in key parts of its 65nm process, and AMD's 65nm process is looking fantastic.
The only way possible, huh? All that statement proves, is that you have absolutely no understanding whatsoever, of the physics behind Dual Core Power Consumption, vs Single Core power consumption, and that your statement has absolutely no basis in fact, or reality whatsoever.

Droid, Intellabie, Tellatubie, etc etc etc are all derogatory terms, that are in a grey area, but IMO, they ARE attacks, but not always necessarily personal attacks. The difference is in this case, instead of using it as a general description of a group of people, a single person, or people are SPECIFICALLY identified, and named. The new Samsung SCH-i730 smartphone, measuring 5.2 x 2.8 x 0.6 inches and weighing 5.5 ounces, is slim enough to slide comfortably into a suit pocket while still being powerful enough to give users high-speed access to the Internet through Verizon's (NYSE: VZ - news) wireless broadband network.
The SCH-i730 is equipped with a 520-MHz Intel (Nasdaq: INTC - news) PXA272 processor, 64 MB of RAM, 128 MB of ROM, a slide-down Qwerty-style keypad and a SecureDigital card slot.

Fab32 Hits The Ground Running
Intel's Fab 32 groundwork laid behind the scenes
http://www.azcentral.com/community/chandler/articles/0726cr-inteldeal-ON.html
When a company decides to build a facility, whether it's a restaurant or computer chip factory, there's usually a lag time before construction starts.
Not this time.
Intel Corp. will begin construction Tuesday on a $3 billion, 1-million-square-foot chip factory in south Chandler only 11 days after finalizing the site. Behind the scenes, local Intel officials have been scurrying for months to prepare for a possible expansion at the Ocotillo campus at 4500 S. Dobson Road. They secured the city's approval, took bids from contractors and vendors, and made hiring plans - all on a hypothetical basis.
Yet andY's original attack remains. Once again, the same game that was played on SI's "moderated" AMD thread is being played on IHub.

So, in order to try to be fair, what I do, which may, or may not be incorrect, is, when a similar issues pops up here, I use a "Carpet Bomb" approach. ALL posts related to the original deletion, as well as the original, get deleted too. Of course, if a person feels their post was deleted "incorrectly", they always have a right to appeal to iH Admin Matt. AFAIK, Only one person has appealed (guess who?) and Matt made him remove the personal attack sentence, prior to undeleting the post. In cases where I feel the personal attack is on me, I don't delete, but instead click the "Report TOS Violation" link, and let Matt decide.
So far, I haven't received any complaints of favoritism, although there has been some bitc.... umm "concern", over the carpet bomb approach. All I can say is, that approach seems to be working, so far.

Well, I guess you should know, because from what I've seen, IMO, that % post figure, definitely includes WELL OVER 90%..... and more likely, 100%, of yours.
Edit: That's less than 2 miles from where I live. I think I'll go buy and have a look. They say construction will begin immediately.
Not quite started yet...... From the local "Newspaper", Groundbreaking, in 2 weeks
http://www.azcentral.com/community/chandler/articles/0726intel26.html
Construction, which will start Aug. 2, will create about 3,000 jobs. By the time the plant opens in late 2007, it will add about 1,000 high-paying manufacturing jobs to Intel's Chandler campus. The jobs for engineers, technicians and supervisors range in pay from $40,000 to $100,000 a year, said Tom Franz, vice president and general manager of fab/sort manufacturing for Intel.
***** BTW, I think this was probably the part that sealed the deal....
The Legislature's passage in May of a bill to offer companies like Intel a new way to calculate their state income taxes. The so-called sales-tax factor bill allows companies to base their taxes mainly on their sales within the state, which is generally relatively low for high-tech firms whose products go outside the state and even the country.
The bill did not name Intel, but it was designed so that the formula goes into effect only if a company agrees to make at least $1 billion in new investment in the state. Now that Intel has pulled that trigger, all multistate companies with operations in Arizona will be able to choose between tax formulas.
The sales-tax bill was "a key part of the decision to locate here," Franz said.
The current sales-tax formula is based on a company's sales, property and payroll within Arizona. Business leaders said it penalizes companies like Intel that have expensive plants and high payrolls but sell little within the state. The new formula allows companies by 2009 to base 80 percent of their tax on sales.
6th 300mm fab? I count 6 already
Maybe they are counting D1C/D1D as 1 fab. I recall that for D1B/D1C there was a cleanroom hallway connecting the 2 parts, but structurally, the only difference between the "2 fabs", was that when you entered the hallway from the gownroom, you turned right for D1B, turned left, for D1C. 2 designations, but physically, all 1 fab.

Heh, I guess Intel can save money there. Instead of
