When a company decides to build a facility, whether it's a restaurant or computer chip factory, there's usually a lag time before construction starts.

Not this time.

Intel Corp. will begin construction Tuesday on a $3 billion, 1-million-square-foot chip factory in south Chandler only 11 days after finalizing the site. Behind the scenes, local Intel officials have been scurrying for months to prepare for a possible expansion at the Ocotillo campus at 4500 S. Dobson Road. They secured the city's approval, took bids from contractors and vendors, and made hiring plans - all on a hypothetical basis.
