No fail diet= no food till 5:P.M , allowed only is a coffee with a 1/2 inch of a sweet in morning................helps if substitutes for starch in late afternoon..........but if you stick to salads, meat, cheece , I find you can eat all you wish till next quick fast. Thai Curry Chicken
2 Big fat chicken breasts (skinless/boneless) cut into 1" chunks
1 Medium onion diced
3 Cloves of garlic minced
1 cup of frozen mixed veggies
1 cup rice (not cooked)
1 tsp thai curry powder (hot stuff) Mmmmmmmmm
2 cups chicken stock
salt & pepper to taste
olive oil
Saute chicken, onion and garlic in oil over medium low heat for 5 min. Add rice, stock, curry powder, salt & pepper, bring to a simmer and cover. After 5 minutes stir in frozen veggies and simmer covered for an additional 10 min. Make sure rice is done and serve it up!

In the home, food safety concerns revolve around three main functions: food storage, food handling, and cooking. To see how well you're doing in each, take this quiz, and then read on to learn how you can make the meals and snacks from your kitchen the safest possible.

Answers
1. Refrigerators should stay at 41 F (5 C) or less, so if you chose answer B, give yourself two points. If you didn't, you're not alone. Many people overlook the importance of maintaining an appropriate refrigerator temperature.
The refrigerator temperature in many households is above 50 degrees (10 C). Measure the temperature with a thermometer and, if needed, adjust the refrigerator's temperature control dial. A temperature of 41 F (5 C) or less is important because it slows the growth of most bacteria. The temperature won't kill the bacteria, but it will keep them from multiplying, and the fewer there are, the less likely you are to get sick from them. Freezing at zero F (minus 18 C) or less stops bacterial growth (although it won't kill all bacteria already present).
2. Answer B is the best practice; give yourself two points if you picked it.
Hot foods should be refrigerated as soon as possible within two hours after cooking. But don't keep the food if it's been standing out for more than two hours. Don't taste test it, either. Even a small amount of contaminated food can cause illness.
Date leftovers so they can be used within a safe time. Generally, they remain safe when refrigerated for three to five days. If in doubt, throw it out.
3. If answer A best describes your household's practice, give yourself two points. Give yourself one point if you chose B.
The kitchen sink drain, disposal and connecting pipe are often overlooked, but they should be sanitized periodically by pouring down the sink a solution of 1 teaspoon (5 milliliters) of chlorine bleach in 1 quart (about 1 liter) of water or a solution of commercial kitchen cleaning agent made according to product directions. Food particles get trapped in the drain and disposal and, along with the moistness, create an ideal environment for bacterial growth.
4. If answer D best describes your household's practice, give yourself two points.
If you picked A, you're violating an important food safety rule: Never allow raw meat, poultry and fish to come in contact with other foods. Answer B isn't good, either. Improper washing, such as with a damp cloth, will not remove bacteria. And washing only with soap and water may not do the job, either.
5. Give yourself two points if you picked answer C.
If you don't have a meat thermometer, there are other ways to determine whether seafood is done:
For fish, slip the point of a sharp knife into the flesh and pull aside. The edges should be opaque and the center slightly translucent with flakes beginning to separate. Let the fish stand three to four minutes to finish cooking.
For shrimp, lobster and scallops, check color. Shrimp and lobster and scallops, red and the flesh becomes pearly opaque. Scallops turn milky white or opaque and firm.
For clams, mussels and oysters, watch for the point at which their shells open. Boil three to five minutes longer. Throw out those that stay closed.
When using the microwave, rotate the dish several times to ensure even cooking. Follow recommended standing times. After the standing time is completed, check the seafood in several spots with a meat thermometer to be sure the product has reached the proper temperature.
6. If you answered A, you may be putting yourself at risk for infection with Salmonella enteritidis, a bacterium that can be in shell eggs. Cooking the egg or egg-containing food product to an internal temperature of at least 145 F (63 C) kills the bacteria. So answer C--eating the baked product--will earn you two points.
You'll get two points for answer B, also. Foods containing raw eggs, such as homemade ice cream, cake batter, mayonnaise, and eggnog, carry a Salmonella risk, but their commercial counterparts don't. Commercial products are made with pasteurized eggs; that is, eggs that have been heated sufficiently to kill bacteria, and also may contain an acidifying agent that kills the bacteria. Commercial preparations of cookie dough are not a food hazard.
If you want to sample homemade dough or batter or eat other foods with raw-egg-containing products, consider substituting pasteurized eggs for raw eggs. Pasteurized eggs are usually sold in the grocer's refrigerated dairy case.
Some other tips to ensure egg safety:
Buy only refrigerated eggs, and keep them refrigerated until you are ready to cook and serve them.
Cook eggs thoroughly until both the yolk and white are firm, not runny, and scramble until there is no visible liquid egg.
Cook pasta dishes and stuffings that contain eggs thoroughly.
7. Answers C or D will earn you two points each; answer B, one point. According to FDA's Guzewich, bleach and commercial kitchen cleaning agents are the best sanitizers--provided they're diluted according to product directions. They're the most effective at getting rid of bacteria. Hot water and soap does a good job, too, but may not kill all strains of bacteria. Water may get rid of visible dirt, but not bacteria.
Also, be sure to keep dishcloths and sponges clean because, when wet, these materials harbor bacteria and may promote their growth.
8. Answers A and C are worth two points each. There are potential problems with B and D. When you let dishes sit in water for a long time, it "creates a soup," FDA's Buchanan said. "The food left on the dish contributes nutrients for bacteria, so the bacteria will multiply." When washing dishes by hand, he said, it's best to wash them all within two hours. Also, it's best to air-dry them so you don't handle them while they're wet.
9. The only correct practice is answer C. Give yourself two points if you picked it.
Wash hands with warm water and soap for at least 20 seconds before and after handling food, especially raw meat, poultry and fish. If you have an infection or cut on your hands, wear rubber or plastic gloves. Wash gloved hands just as often as bare hands because the gloves can pick up bacteria. (However, when washing gloved hands, you don't need to take off your gloves and wash your bare hands, too.)
10. Give yourself two points if you picked B or C. Food safety experts recommend thawing foods in the refrigerator or the microwave oven or putting the package in a water-tight plastic bag submerged in cold water and changing the water every 30 minutes. Gradual defrosting overnight is best because it helps maintain quality.
When microwaving, follow package directions. Leave about 2 inches (about 5 centimeters) between the food and the inside surface of the microwave to allow heat to circulate. Smaller items will defrost more evenly than larger pieces of food. Foods defrosted in the microwave oven should be cooked immediately after thawing.
Do not thaw meat, poultry and fish products on the counter or in the sink without cold water; bacteria can multiply rapidly at room temperature.
Marinate food in the refrigerator, not on the counter. Discard the marinade after use because it contains raw juices, which may harbor bacteria. If you want to use the marinade as a dip or sauce, reserve a portion before adding raw food.
11. A and B are correct. Give yourself two points for either.
When buying fresh seafood, buy only from reputable dealers who keep their products refrigerated or properly iced. Be wary, for example, of vendors selling fish out of their creel (canvas bag) or out of the back of their truck.
Once you buy the seafood, immediately put it on ice, in the refrigerator or in the freezer. Some other tips for choosing safe seafood:
Don't buy cooked seafood, such as shrimp, crabs or smoked fish, if displayed in the same case as raw fish. Cross-contamination can occur. Or, at least, make sure the raw fish is on a level lower than the cooked fish so that the raw fish juices don't flow onto the cooked items and contaminate them.
Don't buy frozen seafood if the packages are open, torn or crushed on the edges. Avoid packages that are above the frost line in the store's freezer. If the package cover is transparent, look for signs of frost or ice crystals. This could mean that the fish has either been stored for a long time or thawed and refrozen.
Recreational fishers who plan to eat their catch should follow state and local government advisories about fishing areas and eating fish from certain areas.
As with meat and poultry, if seafood will be used within two days after purchase, store it in the coldest part of the refrigerator, usually under the freezer compartment or in a special "meat keeper." Avoid packing it in tightly with other items; allow air to circulate freely around the package. Otherwise, wrap the food tightly in moisture-proof freezer paper or foil to protect it from air leaks and store in the freezer.
Discard shellfish, such as lobsters, crabs, oysters, clams and mussels, if they die during storage or if their shells crack or break. Live shellfish close up whe the shell is tapped.
12. If you are under treatment for any of these diseases, as well as several others, you should avoid raw seafood. Give yourself two points for knowing one or more of the risky conditions.
People with certain diseases and conditions need to be especially careful because their diseases or the medicine they take may put them at risk for serious illness or death from contaminated seafood.
These conditions include:
liver disease, either from excessive alcohol use, viral hepatitis, or other causes hemochromatosis, an iron disorder
diabetes
stomach problems, including previous stomach surgery and low stomach acid (for example, from antacid use)
cancer
immune disorders, including HIV infection
long-term steroid use, as for asthma and arthritis
Older adults also may be at increased risk because they more often have these conditions.
People with these diseases or conditions should never eat raw seafood -- only seafood that has been thoroughly cooked.

I must tell you, up front, that I am not your
typical food connoisseur. While I can
appreciate all of the nouvelle cuisine "Light
and Healthy" stuff, and yes, Poached Dover
Sole in a Lemon/Basil & White Wine Sauce,
served over Angel Hair Pasta does sound
appealing at times, just give me a really good
piece of meatloaf, some homemade mashed potatoes, and
yes (the Cholesterol God will really crawl back on the cross
at this thought) a side dish of creamed corn and I am one
happy fella. I am so happy, in fact, that I have devoted a
major portion of my culinary life in search of "The Perfect
Meatloaf!"
You are probably thinking that I really should get a new life
if one of my passions is searching for the ultimate meatloaf.
But let me explain: Meatloaf is, by all terms, a "comfort
food." Now, no one likes comfort more than myself. When I
am served a hot plate of meatloaf, my thoughts go back to
my childhood, when my parents were both still alive, sitting
around the family table, talking about all of the things you
talk about around the family dinner table, and staring down
at my old friend - meatloaf - steaming back up at me, the
aroma of meat and onions and whatever else hitting me
square in the nostrils, nestled beside a heaping pile of
mashed potatoes and whatever canned vegetable Mom
pulled out of the pantry - sometimes peas, or green beans -
either one an acceptable substitute for the favored
creamed corn. We didn't worry about eating red meat. We
didn't worry about the cholesterol count. We didn't think
about the additives and chemicals in the vegetables - we
didn't even apologize for the can they came in. We just had
a normal meal like a normal family.
Well, Mom & Dad are dead. The mashed potatoes MUST be
laden with garlic and use chicken stock to replace the
butter and milk. The "meat" part of the loaf has been
replaced with free-range turkey, and the vegetables are
fresh-picked from my private
organically-correct/pesticide-free garden (next to the
home-grown herbs).
How I long for the Good old days!
"The Perfect Meatloaf," or TPM for short, is a crafty,
chameleon-esque kind of food. Unlike it's partner,
hamburger, which can be listed on a menu under such
surnames as "Chopped Sirloin," "Ground Round," or my
favorite "Bifteck Hachè," it is still basically hamburger with a
higher or lower fat content. Meatloaf, on the other hand, is
meatloaf. Plain and Simple. Hamburger or Ground Round - it
is still meatloaf! Or is it? As I said, meatloaf is an elusive
creature - the menu always reads "meatloaf" but that has
absolutely no relevance to what you are going to be served.
It's what's INSIDE the meatloaf that separates the men
from the boys, so to speak. Hamburger, veal, pork, ground
round, turkey - you name it and it can be in the meatloaf.
Every imaginable type of bread, from plain old white to torn
up French baguettes can go into it. You can stuff it with
hard boiled eggs. You can add onions, celery, green
peppers, red peppers, garlic and - yes (in homage to our
Nouvell Cuisine friends) even cilantro. Mix it all together,
throw it in a pan and bake it for an hour. Take it out, slice it
and serve it. Voila: Meatloaf! - but what about the ultimate
or as we say, TPM?
What TPM IS Not
Let's start out with what TPM is not. It is not just
hamburger, onions, some sort of bread or cracker
concoction and eggs. I can tell you this from a first -hand
perspective - that is what my mother made. Fortunately,
we ate out a lot. Also, do NOT include in your search for
TPM any "coffee shop" or "family" restaurant varieties of
meatloaf. Many times this is a meatloaf purchased from a
food purveyor that is no more homemade than Chef Boy Ar
Dee. This quasi-meatloaf comes in tubes and is often grilled
and covered with some canned gravy mixture. This should
not even be considered in the running for TPM.
A good rule of thumb in checking out meatloaf is the gravy.
From the traditional brown, to the more Southern cream,
the proper topping has a big impact on your meatloaf. I
personally go for the more traditional tomato sauce or
ketchup lovingly poured on top of the baking loaf and let to
cook with the meat for the last 20 minutes or so of cooking
time. A favorite variation of this is to add brown sugar to
the tomato/ketchup topping and let bake in for the last few
minutes of cooking. Excellent. If you must go for the gravy,
I would suggest the cream variety for two reasons: first it
puts your loaf a step above the traditional restaurant fare
and also just seems to taste better than the brown. On my
TPM scorecard, however, I only give points for the
baked-on toppings. Gravies tend to lend themselves to
leftovers and the ever appealing meatloaf sandwich.
The Mixture
I think the most important thing to look for in the meat loaf
itself is the mixture of the meat. A good ratio of veal and
pork to beef is essential to keep the meat as moist as
possible. A local LA restaurant chain, Du Pars, has a lovely
"Danish" meatloaf that tends to lean on the veal side and
the flavor is quite different and appealing to the palate.
Many chefs tend to go back to the old standby: 1:1:1. That
is, one part beef to one part pork to one part veal.
Experimentation is certainly encouraged in contenders for
TPM. Ideally I look for a moist meat that has a good texture
- not just everything ground up like a sausage or something,
I want to feel and taste the textures of the different meats
and ingredients as they meld their way into TPM.
As for the binding ingredient(s) I have tried everything from
oatmeal to crackers to bread crumbs. I don't like crackers in
TPM. Period. I like bread crumbs if you are making "TPM
Itialianne" with a tomato/basil/parsley topping. Perhaps a
little Romano or Parmigianna? Oatmeal is a good "hidden"
binder and usually is a good choice. Bread chunks are
acceptable if you making a "Meatloaf Melange," where I add
such things as olives, pimentos, peppers, celery, cilantro,
shallots, capers, carrots, and other vegetables.
To Egg, Or Not To Egg?
This brings up another major question: to egg or not to
egg? By egg, I don't mean the raw eggs always used to help
bind the mixture. I mean the insertion of hard-boiled eggs in
the middle. I suppose fifty years ago it was considered a
culinary surprise, but these days I find it quite tired. Also, I
am not a particular fan of hard-boiled eggs in meat. Not to
mention that if you have a good meat mixture already, why
waste space with a tired old egg. On my scorecard, TPM
with eggs gets a big zero.
A Fork In The Culinary Road
Well, we have concocted the Perfect Meatloaf mixture. We
have ground, bound, seasoned, chopped, minced, and
mixed. Time to mold and bake. We have reached another
"fork" in the culinary road. Shall we go the traditional
bread-shaped loaf or shall we go exotic and make a
veritable work of art? Or do we want to go mini-loaves of
meatloaf? A personal choice depending on the situation.
One word of caution to our Meatloaf Monets: when planning
a special "piece" of meatloaf, adjust your cooking times and
temperatures to the size of your masterpiece. Thickness
counts. So does height and overall weight. Nothing is more
uncool than an undercooked meatloaf or, dare we think,
Meatloaf Tartare!! Many chefs also recommend that you
wrap the outside bottom of your loaf with bacon to help
insure it doesn't stick to the pan. Another personal option,
although TPM should be moist enough and have enough
residual fat drippings in the pan that I donÕt feel the bacon
is necessary.
For the bold, why not try Teriyaki Meatloaf, or Cajun
Meatloaf, or Meatloaf Francaise (with a light Dijon, white
wine, and cream sauce) BBQ Meatloaf, or even Meatloaf
Cordon Bleu (stuff ham and cheese wedges inside and
bake.) The possibilities are endless.
As for this old trailblazer, my quest for the ultimate meatloaf
continues. Oh, I have come close many times, but there
always is that glimmer of hope that somewhere out there,
proudly perched aside a mound of mashed potatoes and,
yes, creamed corn, is a hot, steamy, moist, rich, thick piece
of the Perfect Meatloaf. Good eating.

Roasted Vegetable Soup
This delicious, vegetable-filled broth can be served by itself or used as a base for other soups. This recipe oven-roasts the vegetables before adding to the soup liquid, enhancing their flavor. The aroma of the roasted vegetables will evoke memories of old-fashioned, home-style meals. It's comfort food at its finest.
3 large carrots, peeled and coarsely chopped
3 stalks celery, coarsely chopped
1 large onion, coarsely chopped
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
8 cloves garlic, chopped
4 cups water
1/4 cup dried mushroom pieces (Italian porcini, if possible)
1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
Salt, and black or red pepper to taste
1. Preheat oven to 500 degrees. Place the carrots, celery and onion in a small (8x8-inch) nonstick pan or dish with the olive oil. Toss to coat the vegetables. Bake for 10 minutes.
2. Remove pan from oven, add the garlic, and toss again. Bake for another 10-15 minutes until the vegetables are browned.
3. Remove pan from oven, add 1 cup of water and stir to loosen any vegetables that may be stuck. Pour this into a pot with the remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 30 minutes.
4. Season to taste with salt, and black or red pepper, and serve or use as the base for other soups, stews or pasta dishes.

This page exists solely to try and spread the word about the numerous & serious dangers of regular aspartame (Nutrasweet, Equal) consumption. The multi-billion dollar aspartame industry would like you believe that "aspartame kills" is an "urban legend" and that you'd have to drink 100 cans of diet soda a day to be harmed by aspartame. This is just simply not true. Their main claim is that the 3 components of aspartame are found in many natural foods and are therefore safe. This is kind of like saying carbon monoxide is safe because all it contains is carbon & oxygen, the same components of carbon dioxide. Methanol (wood alcohol), which makes up 10% of aspartame and is highly toxic (adult minimum lethal dose is 2 teaspoons), is also found in some fruits & vegetables like tomatoes. However, methanol is never found in natural foods without ethanol & pectin, its "antidotes" if you will (detailed facts below). Ethanol & pectin prevent methanol from being metabolized into formaldehyde (embalming fluid) & formic acid (same chemical as fire ant venom), both deadly toxins. An ethanol drip is even the standard emergency room treatment for methanol poisoning. Aspartame contains no ethanol or pectin, therefore the methanol is converted to formaldehyde and formic acid. Phenylalanine and aspartic acid, the other 2 components of aspartame, are amino acids found in natural foods but always as part of long chains of many different amino acids to form complex protein molecules that take humans 12 hours to gradually break down & assimilate. According to the doctors below, when consumed by themselves these 2 amino acids require no digestion and quickly enter the brain & central nervous system at abnormally high levels, overstimulating brain cells to death and causing many other health problems.
"Pro" aspartame people point to industry sponsored short term tests, ignoring independant tests. They point to "reliable" health sites, organizations, foundations etc. that are sponsored, funded & fed "facts" by companies that profit from aspartame. And of course, the FDA approved it so "it must be safe", neglecting to mention that the FDA denied aspartame approval for over 8 years until the newly appointed FDA commissioner Arthur Hull Hayes overruled the final scientic review panel, approved aspartame, and then went to work for G.D. Searle's (initial owner of aspartame) public relations firm at $1,000 a day. Hayes has refused all interviews to discuss his actions. The FDA also urged Congress to prosecute G.D. Searle for "specific false statements or concealed facts" stemming from Searle's testing of aspartame. However, the 2 government lawyers assigned to the case decided against prosecuting G.D. Searle and then joined G.D. Searle's law firm! Even the National Soft Drink Assn. filed a strong protest letter (available below) in 1983 against the approval of aspartame for use in beverages, saying "aspartame is inherently, markedly and uniquely unstable in aqueous media." Also, the FDA still allows hydrogenated oils to be used, does that make them safe?
Our suggestion: First READ ALL THE QUOTES provided below, then go back and read some of the articles. And remember, they're talking about the CUMULATIVE effects of regular aspartame consumption and that some people are more affected than others (but everyone is affected) due to a few factors including the condition of their protective blood-brain barrier. The Barcelona Report - A Univ. of Barcelona study on lab rats that proves that aspartame is converted to formaldehyde in vivo. Not an easy read. " ...the amount of formaldehyde adducts coming from aspartame in tissue proteins and nucleic acids may be cumulative. No-carb eating couple booted from buffet

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (AP) -- A couple on a low-carb diet were kicked out of a buffet restaurant after the manager said they'd eaten too much roast beef.
Chu Rak, who along with his wife have been on the Atkins Diet for two weeks, was asked to leave after he went up to the buffet at the Chuck-A-Rama in suburban Taylorsville for his 12th slice of roast beef.
"It's so embarrassing actually," said Chu Rak's spousal unit, "We went in to have dinner, we were under the impression Chuck-A-Rama was an all-you-can-eat establishment."
Not so, said Jack Johanson, the restaurant chain's district manager.
"We've never claimed to be an all-you-can-eat establishment," said Johanson. "Our understanding is a buffet is just a style of eating."
The general manager who was carving the meat Tuesday became concerned about having enough for other patrons and asked Amaama to stop, Johanson said.
Offended, the couple asked for a refund. The manager refused and called police when they would not leave.
The couple said they have eaten at Chuck-A-Rama's $8.99 buffet at least twice a week, but did not plan to return.

Little Update... Saw my doctor Monday and she is impressed with my health. She agrees the Atkins diet is foolish unless you are diabetic. A well balanced low fat diet is the only way to loose weight. Plus my working out on a treadmill or trainer first thing in the morning get my metabolism up and running. What ever I do I have to get your heart rate up to a point where the workout is doing good for me it is 135 but I go for 150 - 153. I bought a heart rate wrist and chest device and found out my workout was lazy. In 6 weeks I am down from 195 to 173 and still have about 12 pounds more I want to loose. waist is down from 36 to 33 and feeling good.
My meals have to include Carbs so I get the insulin running to repair the muscles and I try to eat less 2500 low fat calories a day. Morning oatmeal or whole wheat pancakes with fat free / sugar free Smuckers breakfast syrup and Promise oleo. I added no oil to the mixture and I use egg beater instead of an egg.
Mid morning snack is canalop or honey dew melon. I drink only water and I do sweeten it with Sweet and low or dixie crystals substitute thus no calories and the water is not too bad.
Lunch, I typically will consume a sandwich made from Holsum Light Wheat only 40 calorie a slice half the calories of normal bread and a fat free lunch meat like chicken or turkey. Plus a baby spinach salad with mushrooms, carrots, tomatoe and cucumber with hidden valley fat free ranch. I do change the sandwich to various left overs like tipilia fish or tuna or whatever but fat free or low fat.
Snack apple (fuji or gala and/or banana)
Dinner. I have a Roman Heart salad with mushrooms, brocoli, calliflower and tomato with Hidden Valley fat free dressing. I try to have fish or chicken with white rice because brown has fat in it, and steamed fresh vegetables and a smoothie of 5 strawberries, 1 kiwi, 1.4 cup lots of pulp orange juice and crushed ice.
Just before bed I eat fruit or celery with the hidden valley fat free ranch. dropping weight very well and healthy. Doctor drew blood Monday as a base line ... I am starting 6 herb supplements today ... 1 - heart, 1 - vascular, 1 - Joints, 1- cell antioxidant, 1- Calcium supplement, & 1 - multivitamin.
I work out 3 times a week on 25 different routines and I use low weight and high reps. Like the abdominal crunch machine I do 75 @ 100 pounds. Most everything else is at 70 pounds and I do 3 sets of 15 - 20 reps.
Carbs are required to build up the muscle thus I need insulin. Since I started this low fat diet and watch what I eat my wife is shocked how I look at 51 in the last 6 weeks. She on the other hand is not successful because she snacks on fried junk and her dressing is like 130 calories a tablespoon where Hidden Valley ranch is only 30. SHe will figure it out soon enough.
Oh and if I get a sweet toothe I eat a couple of fat free devils food cookies (snackwell).
Everyone is different but I have a data base on all foods sorted by fat content and I eat as much fat free or low fat as possible and in doing so I avoid high carb and high calorie foods ... but again I want the carbs for the insulin to repair muscles.
Good luck but the diet and the heart rate at working out is the key I have found out which is why eating a balanced diet is critical. I know two people on atkins at the gym and I must say I do not want to look the way they do ... they look sickly and they flat out look unhealthy.
Even the gym wants to know what I am doing. I was a mess 6 weeks ago ... 14.5" arms and 33 waist and 173 pounds and lastly feeling strong and great.
Just a matter of changing your eating habits.
good luck everyone ... FInd what works for you and consult your doctor on the diet before doing something that may cause you harm. Swapping weight loss for bad health is not very wise.

I read every diet I can get my hands on. I even follow their suggestions. But eventually, inevitably, I always get fat again. Now, at last, I've found The Answer. After living for almost 14 years with a man who never gains an ounce no matter what I serve him, I've found out what it is that keeps him thin: He thinks differently. The real difference between fat and thin people is that thin people:
avoid eating popcorn in the movies because it gets their hands greasy;
split a large combination pizza with three friends;
think Oreo cookies are for kids;
nibble cashews one at a time;
think that doughnuts are indigestible;
read books they have to hold with both hands;
become so absorbed in a weekend project they forget to have lunch;
fill the candy dish on their desks with paper clips;
counteract the midafternoon slump with a nap instead of a cinnamon Danish;
exchange the deep-fryer they received for Christmas for a clock-radio;
lose their appetites when they're depressed;
think chocolate Easter bunnies are for kids;
save leftovers that are too skimpy to use for another meal in order to make interesting soups;
throw out stale potato chips;
will eat only Swiss or Dutch chocolate, which cannot be found except in a special store;
think it's too much trouble to stop at a special store just to buy chocolate;
don't celebrate with a hot-fudge sundae every time they lose a pound;

You'll love this fruitcake recipe!! I'm sure you can use it yourself, or pass it on to your mother/wife/girlfriend/etc.
Ingredients:
1 cup water
1 tsp baking soda
1 cup sugar
1 tsp salt
1 cup brown sugar
Lemon juice
4 large eggs
Nuts
1 bottle Johnnie Walker
2 cups dried fruit
Sample the Johnnie Walker to check quality.
Take a large bowl, check the whisky again.
To be sure it is of the highest quality, pour one level cup and drink.
Repeat.
Turn on the electric mixer.Sample whisky.
Beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl. Add one tsp sugar. Beat again.
Make sure the whisky is still OK. Try another cup. Turn off the mixerer.
Break 2 leggs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup of dried fruit.
Mix on the turner. If the flied druit gets stuck in the beaterers pry it loose with a drewscriver.
Sample the whisky to check the tonsisticity.
Next, sift two cups of salt. Or something. Who giveshz a flick.
Check the whisky.
Now sift the lemon juice and strain your nuts.
Add one table. Add a spoon of sugar, or something.
Whatever you can find.
Whisk the checky
Greash the oven and p iss in the tridge.
Turn the cake tin 350 defrees. Don't forget to beat off the turner.
Throw the bowl through the bloody window. Check the whisky again and go to bed.
Heart Disease in Women
Many of us think of heart disease as a disease that kills primarily men. In a year 2000 Yale University study, 250,000 women died from heart disease, compared to 40,000 who died from breast cancer. This is a huge difference. The study also showed that in women who have a heart attack before the age of 75, the risk of the chance of mortality is much higher in comparison to their male counterparts. Many times women do not realize that they have heart disease due to the fact that their symptoms may present differently than the "typical heart attack" symptoms of crushing chest pressure with pain radiating down the arm. Women may experience a "gastritis" or "reflux" feeling, along with a headache or neck pain.
Women usually develop heart disease later than men due to the protective effects that estrogen have against heart disease. When a woman reaches menopause age, she no longer produces estrogen, which then causes a dramatic increase in her risk for heart disease. This is one reason why women should hold onto their reproductive organs for as long as they can and not undergo unnecessary hysterectomies when at all possible. Many women are now turning to natural hormone replacement therapy at the time of menopause, so this has helped decrease their risk for heart disease.

1. Eat foods that encourage natural blood thinning.
The thinner the blood the easier it is going to be for the heart to pump blood throughout the whole body. The scientific term for "thickening of the blood" is called coagulopathy. Obviously, we want to avoid things that accelerate coagulopathy and encourage things that promote a natural blood thinning.
Here are some good blood-thinning foods to include in your diet:
Vegetables such as avocados, cabbage, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, onions, garlic, kelp, and kale.
Fats such as flax seed oil, fish oils, walnut oil, and Fish: cold water ocean fish. Salmon, bluefish, Arctic char, mackerel, and swordfish rate the highest in omega-3 fatty acids, which are protective and provide natural blood thinning.
2. Eliminate foods that contribute to blood thickening.
Any food that contains hydrogenated fats or oils will contribute to the thickening of the blood. Such foods include:
- Packaged products: cookies, crackers, snack items
- Ice creams and frozen desserts
- Margarine
- Fried foods: french fries, fried vegetables, fried chicken, chips
- Vegetable oils such as corn oil, safflower oil, and vegetable oil
- Deli foods, including mayonnaise-based products.
3. Lose excess weight.
When someone has excessive fat pounds, the heart has to pump a lot harder. Fat cells have a poor blood supply and quite frankly fat just puts a great strain on a lot of body organs. Imagine carrying around a 20 pound weight all day. Even after an hour or two you would be exhausted, but yet the heart in an overweight person has to do that every minute for decades. It is no wonder that people who are overweight are at great risk for the damaging effects of high blood pressure and heart disease. To lose weight the following are basic guidelines:

- Try Heart Rate Monitoring Training
- Decrease portion sizes

4. Reduce stress level
Let’s be honest, stress in any form raises blood sugar levels, which in turn, is stored as excess fat in your organs and arteries. Sometimes stress is due to a bad relationship or job, but stress can occur in the body from a food or chemical allergy. For someone with blood pressure problems, tests can be done for heavy metal toxicity and food/chemical sensitivities, to see if these are inducing a stress reaction in the body. Also testing for magnesium, potassium and other mineral levels can help see if a person is being more affected by some sensitivity or toxicity due to a mineral deficiency.
The treatment for stress-induced hypertension is to eliminate the stress. If it is a relationship, please restore it or eliminate it. If it is a job, try and get the job stress changed. It may mean switching jobs. If it is from a food or chemical, eliminate exposure to these items. If a mineral deficiency is causing the problem then get on Supervits or Multi-Min to supplement the missing mineral.
For many, stress reduction can be hastened by doing Bible reading, praying, exercise and activities such as yoga. These, however, are not substitutes for getting at the root cause of the stress.
5. Have regular bowel movements:
A few years back, researchers at Tufts University in Boston published a very non-surprising report in the Journal of the American Medical Association. Basically the report reaffirmed what many of us "alternative" physicians had known for years. If you have multiple bowel movements per day you will be a lot healthier! In this particular study the emphasis was placed on women eating a high fiber diet to reduce their risk for heart attack.
Having regular bowel movements (BM's) is beneficial for so many reasons:
-Biology gave us BM's so that our bodies can eliminate toxins. If these toxins are not eliminated, increases in risks for heart disease, cancer, chronic disorders, and autoimmune disorders may occur because these toxins are oxidants that cause disease!
-Having regular bowel movements makes you healthier in ways not only pointed out above, but also shows that your digestion and absorption of foods and nutrients are in proper sync. Better digestion means healthier you!
Having more bowel movements is one of the goals we have for all our patients at CMRS. This is why we concentrate so heavily on finding foods that you tolerate well and help you avoid foods that may cause gastric problems that may include constipation.
A four-year old will move his/her bowels after each meal. Do you? You should - otherwise your pipes can get all clogged up. As your toilet is used to get rid of waste, so does your colon or large intestine. Most nutrients from the food you eat are already absorbed by the body by the time the stool reaches the colon. The colon's main function is the elimination of body waste. When the colon is sluggish, body wastes accumulate and constipation results. If you are having less than 3 bowel movements/day you are constipated.
Over the years 15 to 20 pounds of old-hardened feces can accumulate in the colon. The clogged colon then interferes with the final absorption and digestion of food, depriving the body of necessary nutrients and water. This results in fermentation and putrefaction of undigested food which creates toxins or poisons for the body. These toxins then get reabsorbed into the blood causing disease and a feeling of fatigue. What most people need is a good roto-rooting. Natural medicine may use colon irrigation to remove this impacted material. Colon irrigation is the gradual and gentle introduction of water into the colon via the rectum. About 10 to 12 gallons of water are used during the procedure. The water flow is always under the direct control of the therapist. Each treatment takes approximately 40-50 minutes. Usually the equivalent of 10 or more bowel movements of impacted material is removed.
6. Take your vitamins!
Every one needs to take a good multi vitamin. We just don’t get enough from our food.
These are some additional vitamins that you can take that will help keep your blood thin, protect against oxidation, and strengthen the heart: Vitamin C with Bioflavinoids, Lysine, Garlic, Vitamin E (Natural mixed tocopherols), Enzymes, and Omega 3 fatty acids.
7. Have lab work done regularly to check your risk factors:
Every woman over the age of 50, or better yet, when you turn 40, should check the following labs: hormone levels, blood sugar levels, homocysteine levels, insulin resistance, coronary artery calcifications, heavy metals, lipid peroxides, hypertension, fibrinogen, percent body fat, cholesterol/HDL and Triglyceride/HDL ratios, as well as nutritional factors, such as waist/hip ratio, weight/height ratio and percent body fat. We recommend that our patients over the age of 50 receive a fast CT scan of the heart to check for calcifications. See your natural medicine physician today to get these things taken care of. You don’t want to wait until it is too late.
8. Decrease your carbohydrate load (Eliminate Syndrome X)
Women (and men) who eat too many carbohydrates are at risk for develop hyperinsulinemia and ultimately Syndrome X. When a person eats too many carbohydrates, the body makes insulin to bring the blood sugars down. If this continues for decades, eventually the cells no longer respond to the effects of insulin. The over-consumption of carbohydrates leads to storage of fat in the body in the form of triglycerides and cholesterol. All of these high carbohydrate, low-fat foods are not necessarily good for you! In Syndrome X, the person has hyperinsulinemia, high cholesterol, high triglycerides, and often resultant hypertension and arteriosclerosis (plaque formation). Treatment for Syndrome X includes decreasing carbohydrate consumption and getting metabolic typing done to determine the best diet for your body type.
9. Avoid cigarette smoke
This is a rather obvious thing to do, however, it is not always that easy to do. Cigarette smoking is highly addictive. Unfortunately, cigarette smoking among the young female population is on the rise. Do yourself a favor and don’t start. If you have already started, find a way to stop. Cigarette smoking constricts your blood vessels, weakens your heart, damages your lungs, and increases your risk of heart disease.
10. Exercise more
We cannot emphasize this enough. Exercise does not mean that you walked from the grocery store to your car or that you walked out to get the paper at the mail box. Everyone, especially women, need to make the time to start exercising. Women need to be especially concerned about weight-bearing exercise in addition to aerobic exercise. We need to be doing exercise at least one to two times per week for strengthening, such as weight-lifting. In addition, we need to do a sustained exercise for at least 20 minutes three times per week when we reach at least 85% of our maximum heart rate. Most people are not doing this. Go to your local sporting goods store and buy a heart rate monitor and start from there!

When I look at a patch of dandelions, I see a bunch of weeds that are going to take over my yard.
My kids see flowers for Mom and blowing white fluff you can wish on.
When I look at an old drunk and he smiles at me, I see a smelly, dirty person who probably wants money and I look away.

When I hear music I love, I know I can't carry a tune and don't have much rhythm so I sit self-consciously and listen.
My kids feel the beat and move to it. They sing out the words. If they don't know them, they make up their own.

How about crow's liver quinnelles with a quince coulee? That might actually be quite palatable. Along of course with a side of baby carrots with a garlic and courrant beurre blanc.
I might suggest say a Sancerre as a perfect complement to the tart fruitiness of the quince coulee?
That's a meal the fat lady might enjoy
A few nights ago, I felt gutsy enough to try a homemade, ff vegan version
of those wonderful-tasting Gardenburgers. I ground up a pound of button
mushrooms in my food processor with about 1-1/2 cups of brown rice, 1/2 cup
of chopped onion, and seasoned it with some dried parsley, garlic powder,
salt, vegie boullion, and a couple of drops of liquid smoke seasoning. I
pressed the somewhat wet mixture into patty shapes in a dry non-stick
frying pan, and cooked them on a medium-to-low flame until they were
browned and solid on the outsides (it took quite a while). Except that I
got a bit too much salt in them for my taste (the amount in the boullion
was plenty), they were heavenly! I had put off making them because I
thought they'd be a lot of trouble, but with the food processor, it was a
breeze. My picky son ate his with a slice of ff american cheese, and asked
for seconds!! I highly recommend them.
