#16253 RE: PegnVA #16252

The few spending cuts advanced are so extreme they're embarrassing. To defray part of the $1.2 trillion cost, the Republican budget decreases veterans' benefits by $6 billion (House Republicans asked for a $28 billion cut). This is a slap in the face to every current and former member of our armed services, including those who fulfilled their mission with great courage in Iraq. If this is what's happening to their veterans' benefits, imagine what's in store for Medicaid (House Republicans proposed slashing it by $93 billion).

PegnNJ....

I saw all the usual liberal slash and burn pieces about the cuts to the Veterans Benefits, but what was missing in all those diatribes was the specific proposals (how convenient). When I finally found some of them, they were not as billed by the spinmeisters of the left, to no one's surprise.

Do you think there actually might be abuse, waste and fraud at the VA?? A lot of the cuts were aimed at just that. Do you think that the US taxpayer owes every person a lifetime of totally free medical care even though that person had zero service related problems and makes plenty of money?? I do not think we can afford such coverage, which is certainly not available in the private sector. Do you think that the US taxpayer should pay for extremely expensive treatments that are classified as experimental??? Private insurance will not pay for it.

You are correct that many people were in favor of the invasion of Iraq -- an understatement when over 70% of Americans supported it. I was (and still am) one of those in favor of it and do not find it the least bit disgraceful.

I am glad you saw the President on board the aircraft carrier last night. Do you remember when willie clinton went aboard a similar carrier for supposedly a similar photo op?? Remember all the catcalls, obscenities, and other acts of disrespect the sailors there showered him with?? Quite a difference last night with Bush, and it shows you who the military thinks is behind them and who they have respect and appreciation for.
