Susie924: Knowing Bush, he is relying on the professionals to handle the situation. What I can't understand is why it is taking so long to at least make some air drops and truck some supplies in for these folks bunched together on the raise thruways, Superdome, etc....

It would have been much better if there had been a plan for such an event by local authorities as to where to direct locals to gather for help. It seems painfully obvious the local authorities had no contingency plan for the flooding of NO. An event they knew was inevitable.

No predetermined in advance gathering places for medical aid and assistance for those that did not or could not get out prior to the hurricane in the event of a flood event. Just a pre planned walk out of the flooded areas using the elevated thruways would have been something.

This is a sad event to be witnessing...

Problem is, you may think you are prepared. Then, something unbelievable hits and you find out you could not handle it. NYPD and FDNY are two of the best of their kind anywhere. Then, someone decided to fly some airplanes into WTC and turned Manhattan into a war zone. How do you plan for that? The 9/11 response was amazing. Every plane in North America was grounded for 3 days. That still amazes me.

Or here in NO. Lots of good people were doing lots of emergency planning on this. But, it was simply too big. You can't plan for this. You know it's coming, but when it does it overwhelms anything you could have thought of. Same thing in SanFran last time they got hit by an earthquake. Some things just cannot be oversome by good planning.

Now, it going to take good people and a good response. I find it hard to believe that in this age we cannot still do the simplest of things at times. Like food and water and shelter. But, that's the reality. Civilization still has a shallow facade.

I have to agree with hiker about this situation having to do with politics.

And I don't agree at all.

No locality can plan for every catastrophe.

And it has nothing to do with politics.

Stupidiy, maybe, but not politics.
