That was so long ago Al Gore hadn't invented the internet yet.

Were there any boards back in the Motorola days? If there were, the participation rate was much smaller because back in 95 there were far fewer internet connections then there are today.

As far as the overall feeling, it appeared that IDCC was going to win against Motorola and it was a miscarriage of justice. Back then our fate was decided by a bunch of lay people AND it wasn't just interpreting a contract by 3 lawyers/judges. Today's situation is completely different although the outcome is just as important to the future success of the company.

Your post:
To long time investors (Motorola time):

It seems as though many here (but not all) are pretty confident that we will have a positive outcome in the NOK mess when it is all said and done.

I wasn't in the stock back during the Motorola mess and was wondering what the atmosphere was like on the boards leading up to the decision in Motorola. Were folks confident and completely caught off guard with the Motorola decison or did most know we had problems before the decision was announced?

I feel more comfortable (gut feeling)with the investment this week than I have in the last several months but I am not quite sure why that is.

Thanks,
ssalner

ssalner: yes...there was a great deal of confidence back then also. Different scenario in this case though. MOT was a jury trial with no Special Master. The jury was supposed to decipher the technical issues of the patents on their own. As LOOP stated in a post this morning...that type of scenario is an infringing companies dream.

SSALNER, "was wondering what the atmosphere was like on the boards leading up to the decision in Motorola. Were folks confident and completely caught off guard with the Motorola decison or did most know we had problems before the decision was announced?"
For the most part we were POSITIVE we were winners, the loss was unbelivable. Times were different at that time, we now have excellant attorney's representing IDCC & we are most definitly better positioned.
Keep the faith, we shall overcome!!!!!!!!

"I feel more comfortable (gut feeling)with the investment this week than I have in the last several months but I am not quite sure why that is."

In his book Lonsome Dove, the author Larry McMurtry invented a pseudo-Latin phrase "uva uvam vivendo varia fit" which roughly translates as "a grape matures by looking at another grape". I think we all find comfort that the general belief on ths board is that its not a question of whether or not S/E is a trigger as it is how much IDCC will receive. Lets all pray that we don't have another Motorola bolt out of the blue.

Yeah folks were pretty confident... in Dec 94, the stock was at 3. Then by the end of March 95, the stock hit 12. Then the decision came out and we all know what happened.

Someone on this board (probably loop) said that when the verdict was announced, the most shocked people in the courtroom were MOTOROLA's lawyers!
