Weby, you may be right that Dell is positioning with 1.1 before full scale deployment with 1.2. In their communication to enterprise customers they're still keeping their plans pretty close to the vest.

Nevertheless, their timing on entering the market could also have been determined by their interest in federal government business, particularly DoD, now that IBM has sold out to the Chinese. I believe gov't business was the primary reason Dell decided to launch their TC offerings.

Weby: "I don't believe Dell expects to sell that many 1.1 machines and I do think that they waited to come on board JUST IN TIME to position themselves for 1.2 and Longhorn. Of course, I could be wrong, but that's how I'm viewing it."

Could you expand on your reasoning behind this statement? I have some differing thoughts but want to understand better where your coming from before I open my big mouth.... Thanks. Jeff

Weby or anyone...

Any idea when 1.2 PCs are expected to be widely available in the market? All I've heard is 2nd half of '05 but that's a bit vague.

The more I look into your comment as follows, the more I think you may be right:

"I don't believe Dell expects to sell that many 1.1 machines and I do think that they waited to come on board JUST IN TIME to position themselves for 1.2 and Longhorn. Of course, I could be wrong, but that's how I'm viewing it."
