John, with $3B in sales with the joint flash venture and no CPU losses holding them down, AMD could once again become a profitable company. Why let the competitive CPU market weigh them down? It's far more expensive to continue the R&D, and at this point, Intel isn't likely to let up on the pressure. It's well known that Jerry Sanders has a personal vendetta with Intel, but maybe new management will have the balls to make the better business decision, whatever it may be.
If that decision happens to involve AMD exiting the CPU business, it could mean an enormous upside for Intel.
