You are missing out on some boards. There is, after all, FOOD, which is frequented by some who post here. Lots of recipes and related articles. There used to be an active gardening board, though interest has fallen off lately. People talk about cars everywhere. They do the same with fish. There are various sports boards, though I'm not familiar with them.
I will maintain that at this moment, politics is relevant to many things is may not speak to when we have rational leaders who understand and value our nation's laws and foundational principles. And who also understand how our capital markets work. Not to mention international markets. It is only now that we've stooped to threatening penguins.
As for the raccoons, I think they're crafty enough to avoid predatory dogs. They're probably just found a new source of food. Even if no one feeds them deliberately, they're quite good at opening garbage cans.
You might want to try the farfalle with smoked salmon. It doesn't require a ton of ingredients, is easy to make, and doesn't take long. AND--this is important--it's easy to make a single portion of whatever size you want.
