You don't know if it was up to spec or not. Just because they didn't tip their hand doesn't mean you can safely make assumptions...

wbmw,

I am not currently putting money on K8L being on spec and on schedule. Even if it is, the time to place a bet would be in June to August time frame, when the market is digesting Q2 results.

IMO, K8L will be fabulous. It has to be

I think that's too strong a word. Especially in the timeframe it's expected out, which is likely to be overly optimistic as well. AMD is in SLIP mode and if anything it's getting worse. There is no reason to believe K8L will be better than Intel's current shipping Quad core. Against Penryn, which could come out first, it will be a different story.

re: IMO, K8L will be fabulous. It has to be, and I'm sure it has the entire company putting every resource available to make it a success. But let's face the facts. It wasn't exactly up to spec in December, so it's probably not going to be shipping any time soon. As I have stated before, I think there is a good chance that AMD will have it out in Q3 (enough to claim a mid-year launch), and yet still a reasonable chance that it slips to Q4 as well.

There will be lots of fanfare. Intel has seen this train-a-comin' and would be reticent not to provide an answer in advance of its arrival. I am fully expecting Intel to make this as much of a non-affair as possible.
