Bio, this is a thesis ;) ... over 3,900 words ... had to copy to Word to print ... can't read that much online w/o a headache and neck pain. Love first 2 ¶'s ... I'm sure the rest will be as stellar.

Great post - the changes in method you outlined reminded me of something that Lund was working on. Apparently they have made progress. How would this figure into the developing science you describe?

Congrats Bio , excellent review of the research efforts over the past 30 + years !

Glad to see that you also still have confidence in murine studies !

Concerning Dr.Rudi Tanzi , please review my post # 121017 from Sept 20 ,2017 , in which I outlined some of The statements Dr.Tazi made on data presented at the 2017 AAIC held in July in London , England , and several of Dr . Tanzi’s ongoing lab studies .

It is interesting to note that Dr.Tanz’s research was suggesting that plaque formation was / is actually a defense mechanism , to protect the brain from sources of infection ( bacteria, viruses, etc ) , however he did still feel that an accumulation of plaque can lead to Alzheimers ..
Plaque formation may also occur as a response to inflammation caused by various triggers .

IMHO Anavex remains the current “ World’s Best Hope “ for solving many CNS diseases .

The next 3 to 6 months will be exciting !

Please continue your excellent analyses of evolving research , especially with our currently hidden ( or ignored ) diamond !

GLTAL !

Wow Bio...lots of information to digest...thank you! One of the links you provided at the bottom (from Anavex-Tangui Maurice, PhD, Professor at INSERM Montpellier) i came across a few years old 30 min video of a speaking conference he gave. Unfortunately the camera was trained only on him so we couldn't see the slides he was showing. Bit of a language barrier (for me) but i was following along..he was hitting on points you made in your great post. Anavex really is NOT a one trick pony when it comes to leading scientific minds in these fields.

All the best Bio, thanks again!

ps...not from the tech world either...not sure how to "embed" video on here..instead of causing one to click on link.

A masterpiece, Bio! Thank you.

And this seems like as a good a place as any to slip in a DD update with relation to Rudy Tanzi. Some time ago I posted about the Dec. 11 NYAS symposium, Alzheimer’s Disease Therapeutics: Alternatives to Amyloid, that Nell Rebowe is organizing with Dr. Rudy Tanzi and Dr. Howard Fillit of the Alzheimers's Drug Discovery Foundation. There is now an agenda for the event, and speaking along with Dr. Tanzi and Dr. Fillit, will be Dr. Missling:

11:30 AM
Precision Medicine Approach for Treating Neurological Diseases via Sigma-1 Receptor Activation

Looks to be an enlightening day: https://www.nyas.org/events/2018/alzheimer-s-disease-therapeutics-alternatives-to-amyloid/?tab=agenda

Fantastic, I wholeheartedly agree! 2-73 addresses the cause further upstream than any other drug.

The classification AD is just a man made box. The real issue is some form of neurophysiological dysfunction (my money is still on intracellular calcium burden ;) that manifests in different dementia pathologies we classify based on the outcome and we need to work our way back up to the origin along the ladder of knowledge.

AD research stopped a couple rungs too early to look for a viable solution!

Bravo, bravo!

It seems the light is beaming brightly in the AD tunnel. Moreover, along the walk to find the source it seems we are accumulating confirming clues on the walls. Many want to exploit the walk. Blessed are those trailblazers that proceed without fear to find the lightsource and a better way of life for the current and future afflicted.

(As Investor quotes, “Undaunted by knowledge, we moved on.” Applies.)

Did I really say that? Anyway I should know as I graduated from the Institute of Applied Ignorance.

As per my earlier post today, not only does removing plaque not equate to improved cognition, but a large proportion of patients diagnosed with presumed Alzheimer's dementia turns out to have no amyloid load on their brains per PET scans.
