Ah Dr. Bernard Sears...

Sock it to em...This article by the NYT is an insult to the memory of what used to be the apex of the press. Now they take any body off the street. This is an unresearched piece of trash thrown together by experts on nothing..They should drop fish oil and start talking about the hundreds of peer review article on EPA and its multifaceted benefits.

Fortunately the NYT will probably be out of existence when the favorable results of REDUCE-IT are reported.

PS..I do not agree with everything Sears says about doses.

Statins are the only drug known to increase AA production, and thus will increase the AA/EPA ratio(12). This would increase the risk of CHD. Hence the increasing use of statins may have eliminated all the benefits of omega-3 fatty acid supplementation.

Statins increase AA? Did we know this? I don't recall it being discussed here before. Don't like his conclusion on statins + O3's if it's true, even partially - would mean REDUCE-IT actually has some chance of not being the roaring success we think it will be? Or is he thinking the EPA + DHA + statin = canceled benefits?
