OT: They had a track vet examine him before they reloaded him in the gate for the restart. If there had been an injury they would have scratched him. Just an unfortunate misstep as you say that got compounded by his desire to run and the jockey fighting to pull him up.

One vet this morning mentioned that if it had happened at the end of the race the jockey might have had a better chance of pulling him up with the horse being tired. If you remember Ruffian's last race however her break was pretty similar. First one then another as she kept running. And that race was a shame. Sad when you see such noble animals go down like that.

OT: Thanks for the info Bill.

There was a piece on CNBC interviewing Allen St. John from the WSJ talking about Barbaro and the incident. Forget the money a stallion could potentially make on the race track, if you got a good breed you can rake in the cash just breeding him with other females. A horse like Barbaro could easily make $10 million+. They'll be able to command top dollar, around $250,000 a time, of course by using artificial insemination.

Talking about the luck of the draw though, it's pretty rare to even have a horse breed from a KY Derby, et al, winner and have success.

I couldn't find an article on WSJ's webpage, but will check again later and tomorrows edition.
