OT: They had a track vet examine him before they reloaded him in the gate for the restart. If there had been an injury they would have scratched him. Just an unfortunate misstep as you say that got compounded by his desire to run and the jockey fighting to pull him up.

One vet this morning mentioned that if it had happened at the end of the race the jockey might have had a better chance of pulling him up with the horse being tired. If you remember Ruffian's last race however her break was pretty similar. First one then another as she kept running. And that race was a shame. Sad when you see such noble animals go down like that.
