Comparably Speaking I agree with you. Thing is although severino was good last year for a middle of the rotation (3-4 Starter type) he has been injury prone. And more importantly he doesn't miss bats anymore. Now he had a solid season. But 3 for 67 is alot for him. Montas in Milwaukee was at least starting to miss bats, and to be fair to the guy I don't think Cincinatti is helpful to starting pitchers as a place to pitch. And this is the 2nd year coming off the injury generally ptichers can get stronger in the 2nd year. It is part of why I like Buehler on a 2 year deal. But they need to go out and either get a manea or fried, or Burnes, or trade for a crochet, and my concern is I don't think sterns is gonna do any of that, because I'm getting he really doesn't like giving pitchers long-term deals, not that I disagree with him, but at the same time I believe you do need an ace at some point too if your building a championship team in my opinion.
I definitely prefer the Montas deal to the Seve deal. Fewer years, less $$ per year and a slightly better upside risk.
Well Severino Signs with the A's. The A's signed severino to a 3/67 million deal. Severino was good last year. A 3 year deal is alot of money for serverino. Not surprised he got 3 years, just surprised the A's spent that money too be honest. To be honest he wasn't on my top 5 options list than again montas wasn't even on my top 10 for the mets for starting pitchers so there is that in my opinion.
The fact that this 550 million number keeps coming up with the yanks, now don't know if it is true. but if that is all they will offer, they will not get him in my opinion. I believe the Yanks don't need the best offer, but it is gonna have to start with a 6 to sign him in my opinion. My guess is he gets about 650 million or more from either the mets or red sox. And no way anybody would not sign for close to 100 million more, and I doubt he wants to go to toronto.
Of course this offseason being successful it all starts with Soto for the mets. there is almost no path to a good offseason without him. can they make it a decent one, sure. But the only thing that would excite me considering the GM doesn't like giving long-term deals to pitchers apparently hence possibly out on fried and burnes, which I'm okay with if it means soto and pete, and a great bullpen. But if you give me b players and B pitchers, how excited can I possibly get. Could the GM/Manager get the best out of these B and C players, possibly. But if you win 90 games you overachieve, because lets face it the 2024 mets got everything and more out of the talent they had. There Starting pitching was decent, but not great. There bullpen was a disaster for a team that got to the NLCS, and there lineup was good, but also not great. That doesn't sound like a championship team. And if the idea is to compete for a championship.
Is montas gonna be as good as severino, Manaea, or even quintana last year. My guess is no. Are you gonna be able to recreate that insane chemistry you had last year. I doubt it. So how do you make it up, with talent, and they need alot of it right now in my opinion. But I will call this malpractice if he doesn't spend a nice amount on making a super bullpen he can at least do that if he is not gonna go after the big pitchers. Hopefully mets get soto they really need him and a bunch more, nothing on the market nearly as good in my opinion.
Former Royals pitcher Al Fitmorris passes away ate age 78
Mets and Red Sox appear to be most likely landing spots for Soto (report)
According to NJ.com Yankees reporter Randy Miller in an appearance on New York's WFAN Radio on Saturday, the Red Sox and Mets are the most likely landing spots for Soto, with the Blue Jays "all in" on the superstar slugger and the Yankees likely to "finish fourth" in the Soto sweepstakes.
"I think it's going to come down to the Red Sox and Mets," Miller said. "From what I'm hearing, Big Papi [former Red Sox great David Ortiz] is playing a role in this and recruiting Soto hard. I heard [Soto] was very impressed with the Red Sox and the Red Sox are telling Soto that they're going to bring in a couple of extra players in addition to him. ... I think the Yankees, from what I hear, clearly they value him, but ... I don't think the Yankees will go $600 million. I'm hearing the Yankees will probably top out in the $550 million range."
The world famous Red Sox just signed Aroldis Chapman for 10.75 million for 1 year. There goes our dream of signing Trevor Scott.
Yup took the one who couldn't pitch last year.
And to think the Sox ended up with a member of that trio. Shrewd front office work there!
This has to be the best all-time High School pitching staff ever - Fried, Lucas Giolito, and Jack Flaherty at Harvard-Westlake in Los Angeles.
When I was very young I thought it was the Polo Grounds then the Giants left town. Then I became a Yankee fan for life. And I loved the Mets in 1969 and saw them in person win the WS. Then they gave the team away.
I realize $100M is a lot to walk away from but there is a mystic of playing for the Yankees. Cole's childhood dream came true when he signed with the Yankees.
We'll just have to wait and see about Soto.
Pitching costs a lot these days, but the Montas money seems a bit rich for a guy who's injury record is much more detailed than his pitching record.
On the other hand, Seve and Maenea definitely worked out well beyond expectations last season, so the Stearns and team know what they're doing. IMO Mets fans will feel fine about Montas once Burnes or Fried is inked. The old cliche about never having too much pitching has never been truer.
Now admittingly it may work, but I can't stand this frankie montas signing by the gm (2/34 million). He isn't very good in my opinion. I don't agree with this signing. Could of choose 8-10 pitcher on the free agent market easy before I got to even thinking about him. Now The gm after this season deserves the benefit of the doubt, but I can't say I like this move. All is just my opinion, and I could always be wrong though.
There is a big difference from playing in Queens vs the Bronx.
There is a big difference from playing in Queens vs the Bronx.
I say you don't hire boras if your not looking for the most money. And quite frankly, if the reports are true the Yanks won't go over 550 million (Big if), the mets should push close to 650, maybe 700. Doubt he leaves 100 million+ on the table, for a team who will be in better position to win in the future, because if the yanks sign soto I don't know how much they have to fill the holes. Because Yanks ownership doesn't spend like Mets ownership. Can't beieve I'm saying that, because for many years in my life that statement would be wildly incorrect and completely false.
Let's see if Jr George wants to lay out the cash. Soto has a ring. And the "biggest stage" in MLB right now is Chavez Ravine, where the checkbook knows no limits.
I think Cohen makes it happen in Citi. Hal is going to overpay to lap up the tidbits.....Santander, Fried, maybe Adames.
When Cole signed, there was no question the Yanks would outbid any competitors. I'm reading too many "plan B" comments out of the Bronx.
Soto needs to decide if he wants to play on the biggest stage in MLB or for any other team. The fans love him and he could go into a slump and they'd still love him.
He and Judge could be legendary like Ruth and Gehrig and Mantle and Maris.
I say he signs with the Yanks.
Xmas shopping? I bought one of these when I was in Cooperstown a couple of years ago.

I don't see them on their website but I'm sure you can order one for your favorite team.
Pitching is starting to sign. Dodgers just signed Snell to a monster 5/182 million deal, they sure do spend money. A couple of days back Angels sign Kikuchi for 3/63. Hopefully soto signs soon, so mets whether they get him or not (Hopefully they get him) starting filling in the massive holes in the 2025 roster with all the free agents they had after the 2024 season.
I don't know enough about India but JJ has made some decent moves so far so I am willing to roll with this.
IMHO, Singer hit the ceiling of what he is and his value will never be higher than it is now so I was glad that the Royals struck while the proverbial iron was hot.
So, for that reason, I think that it was a good move
Baseball / Hockey / Umpiring.....
Get rid of some Umps if where or whenever possible......
Place the freaking puck in the center of the circle and just blow the freaking whistle !
ForGET the freaking referee "dropping the puck".....
And horrible ball outside strike calls......sheesh.
I think I would make a half decent Commisioner......
.
.
that's basically how I feel. Although like I mentioned, I really liked Singer from the start.. thought he could become a 'high quality' starter, so I am biased. Anyways, all else equal, either Massey or India goes to third B.
I have seen India Play a bunch. He draws alot of walks. And will get on a decent OBP, but his defense is starting to slip at 2b. His road/home splits also are a concern as his numbers away from cincinatti are not great compared to the hitter friendly reds ballpark. He is now going to a ball park that I see as more favorable to the pitcher. That isn't gonna help.
Road 2024 OPS 660
Home 2024 OPS 849
As for Singer his second half wasn't as good as his first half. Not even close. He can pitch athough not a super star. Although I wouldn't be surprised if his numbers aren't that fanastic in 2025 that ball park isn't favorable to pitching it is really that simple.
I believe the reds got the better of the deal. I wouldn't of done the deal if I were the royals. All is just my opinion, and I could always be wrong though.
yup, I wanted just a bit more solid offensively in return, other side probably saying the same .... and Massey was the Royals third or fourth best player on offense, so either Massey or India goes to third. best;
Looks like a trade of 2 players who had amazing years early on, with great promise for the future. Then the dip in stats and production set in.
Both teams are trading from positions of strength. Maybe one, both or neither of these guys finds their mojo again, but when you're a small market team, this type of deal is almost as good as it gets.
I think it's the kind of deal that can't be judged using the "who won, who lost" lens.
any thoughts on the Singer for India deal? I just read an article by an analyst who thinks Cincy was robbed. But I happen to like Singer a lot, so I am on the other side of the fence. No question KC needs to make some moves to help their offense. But to me, India is 'more than respectable' offensively for a second baseman, but thats it... more than respectable. I guess he's an ok fielder, but maybe one of those guys thats gonna have to move to 3B soon... and there his offense is less impressive. Gets on base a whole lot with his walks, but really, his slugging under .400 isn't great.
As for Singer, I guess I still feel there is more potential in this guy, and he's pretty good as is.. maybe get some years more years like '22. The fact that the Dodgers showed interest in Singer during his off '23 year shows they thought he had strong potential. Hard to find solid reliable starters, and he's only 28. Actually both the same age, and both locked up for the next three seasons.
Admittedly, I have rarely even seen India play, and even when I watched a Cincy game, I never really looked at him.
best.
