The trade for soto, is a disaster if they don't resign him or don't win it all this year, and unless they make some improvement doubt they win it all. I mean I get if stanton could be back that would help if Dominguez could come back that might help considering how much verdugo is struggling. But they still need alot of help. The fact that Brett Baty who trust me I was screaming should be in the minors over vientos before the season started might actually be an upgrade over DJ and Cabrera, tells you how bad of a disaster there 3b situation is.
King is having a very good season that is for sure. And to be fair Drew Thorpe Was the main part of the trade they used to get Cease. And Higgy has been good for them with 11 homers at the catcher position. Speaking of Thorpe he is off to a good start with the white sox, and cease has been good for the padres.
I can't see how the yanks let soto go, but I will be thrilled if he leaves to the other side of town, because he is one of the 5-10 best players in baseball in my opinion.
King with a 2 hit gem for the Padres today. He's looking like the real deal.
To me, the key piece in the Soto to the Yanks trade was Grisham. The Padres did themselevs a huge favor by dumping this guy, as he fits into the category of player who you should never count on IMO, except as a late innings replacement when you're up or down by 7 runs. Even if you're unsure of his who will take the position, get rid of the guy so that you you don't make the mistake of counting on him to suddenly shine. Kicking that ball in the Brewers playoff decider sums it all up for me.
The yanks sure love their retread veterans, even though the stats are clear on the likes of Grisham and Verdugo. Then you have their other propensity, which is to stick with players like DJ, a fine example a player who once shone, but no longer is MLB suitable. And they take forever to get rid of the Donaldsons, usually when it's waayyy too late and the damage to the season is irreperable.
What are they going to do when Soto packs his locker and heads across town?
Volpe hasn't developed. I thought he would be much better.
Your post. And you're wrong he has developed quite nicely.
Volpe is a Gold Glove SS batting .248. Now tell me who the heck would you replace him?
For the Yankees. when did I ever say they should replace him. I'm just saying he has been a huge disappointment. He barely has a OPS over 500 Since june 1rst. That is horrendous. Now this year our answer is nothing you can do. And probably with his fielding he is going nowhere next year either because he is cheap and you have no other options, and he is generally a plus defensive SS. So you can hope he improves. All I was saying is he, verdugo and stanton going to the IL, are the mian reason why this offense suddenly isn't very good.
Verdugo has been terrible too. I mean this guy has stunk since that homer against boston. This team doesn't have much around soto and Judge. Can't believe I'm saying this they desparately need stanton back.
As for the mets, they never came in with the expectations of the yankees. Yankees were in a all in season. Mets expectation were if we make the playoffs and some players develop it has been a good year. And the mets right now are not barely in a WC Race they currently are definetely in a wc race and currently hold the 3rd spot right now.
Despite a bullpen that has often tried to sink the season I mean they blew like 6 games in the 9th inning just in may for crying out loud, and they still are 3 games over .500. I personally think this team will win high 80's if they fix the bullpen at the deadline. which I expect at this point.
Iglesias has had a good year since coming up. Still a small sample size (Batting 7th today). But have you ever looked at the mets lineup. Look at the ops of the batters, than go look at the yankees. True nobody is Judge and Soto but there is danger everywhere, and I mean everywhere. This team has had one of the worst bullpens you would ever lay eyes on in a game that gets played in the bullpen now, and they are still over .500. There ace has yet to throw a pitch. Remember Senga. That changes hopefully Friday. I like the mets roster right now better than the yankees for the simple reason there is just really 1 whole. It is a horrendous bullpen. Now Bring Butto up to help the bullpen has helped. Moving Nunez to high leverage has helped. And If Diaz who I believe is starting to get straighten out will really help. Of course they need 2 high quality arms at the very least for this bullpen in my opinion.
You should take your act on the road. DJ was solid on D yesterday turning a nice DP then the last out in the inning 5-3.
Cortes isn't fooling anyone with the way he is pitching right now. Boone is going to play DJ every day hoping he can find his groove again. I don't know why Grisham is on the team when Jones can play OF.
Boone's daily lineups are looking like an Abbott and Costello routine. I don't know how you build consistency when players don't know if they are playing, what position they are playing and where they are batting in the lineup.
And of course Cashman hasn't made a move with the trade deadline approaching.
Ben Rortvedt and Luis Severino who were banished by the Yankees are both having decent seasons.
Volpe is a Gold Glove SS batting .248. Now tell me who the heck would you replace him?
In case you haven't noticed 5 of the 6 division leaders are in a slump.
Mets are barely in the WC race.
Any reason why this guy continues to bat last?
https://www.mlb.com/player/jose-iglesias-578428
Yeah thing are fine generally when Butto and Nunez, and diaz are pitching (Seems like Diaz is starting to turn it around). The problem is when the other 5 are pitching. To be fair to Maton haven't seen enough yet. But the other 4 are unmitigated disasters waiting to happen. And one guy in Maton at least statistically can't be used in back to back days. Hence it is hard to operate with a 3 1/2 man bullpen.
The one plus was calling Butto up and starting to put him high leverage spots. Him and Nunez are at least starting to form a bridge to diaz. Problem is you can't have 4-5 guys who are almost unusable.
They haven't use Butto in back to back day yet and he is a SP by trade, so don't know if he can even go back to back days. And Nunez has Now pitched two days in a row. So if you can't go to Butto and Nunez tomorrow even against the marlins that is gonna be difficult to get to Diaz tomorrow with a lead. They are gonna need to score a lot of runs. good news is LH pitcher is on the mound tomorrow and the last thing you want to do against the mets is throw LH pitching they get destroyed generally.So I do expect aot of runs from the offense tomrrow. Scott needs to go deep in this game tomorrow, now will the manager let him do that with them worrying about the innings that in lies the question.
Frelick picked off in the 9th in a 1-1 game. Rookie BS
Hey, your bullpen picked Seve up and you didn't need to score 7 runs. Maybe this is the beginning of some shut down innings late in games for the Mets.
Crew on the verge of wasting a fantatsic start by Fastball Freddy in Minnesota.
It was certainly not impressive..especially losing the day before.
Meanwhile the mets sure do make playing the marlins difficult. They won and severino was really good, but everything is so hard to beat a team who is one of the worst in baseball. They clearly don't play them well, or the marlins play much better than they really are. probably more of the former, but the other part might be partially true as well.
DJ LeMahieu might as well change his name to "DP" LeMahieu.
Cortes sure stunk it up, but he's only the tip of the ice berg. The Yanks put up 5 hits and went 0-7 with RISP. The bottom of your line up features DJ and Grisham.
Cortes pitches every 5th or 6th day. Boone's line up card is daily pain.
It really doesn't matter who bat cleanup when you give up 9 runs. Although I think Wells will get better, and I think he has potential, he should not be batting 4th. Problem is I don't know who should. Volpe Can't hit, neither can verdugo for like the last 6 weeks or so. Stanton is out no dominguez. DJ is washed up. Ben Rice is a rookie. Rizzo is on the IL and he is pretty close to washed as well. This team lineup is not great, outside of soto and judge who are two of the five best hitters in baseball in my opinion, The roster really shoudn't hurt you that much offensively if your pitching okay. It really is that simple. We can get on your Manager for the lineup, but the question I have.
Is who do you want hitting 4th if soto and judge are 2-3. My best answer is torres right now until stanton gets back, I didn't say it was a great answer either. So When Yankee fan complain about these lineup, the problem is not the manger he is playing the cards he was dealt. And to be fair to the GM I'm stunned torres has had this disasterous of a season. Verdugo isn't very good since the boston homer and I'm being nice. Volpe might not be that good. Stanton missing at DH was expected at some point, problem is you thought by then you would have dominguez. This offense should be better than it was. But a lot of things have broke wrong.
Volpe hasn't developed. I thought he would be much better.
Verdugo is having a terrible year, and newsflash if you do get dominguez back and stanton is healthy. at this point verdugo should sit if that happens in september. Right now I thought verdugo would be much better as well.
Torres- I thought would hit for 30 Homers and drive in a ton in a walk year. he hit nicely last year, this year he has flat out stunk. Although I think he has the best chance of coming out of it, at least his OPS is north of 700 over the last 28 days.
Rizzo-Is hurt and too be honest I think he is done.
DJ- Got excited about the 2nd half last year, but clearly there is no more in the tank. he can't really move at this point.
The catcher slot hasn't given them much. Although Play wells unless you can trade for diaz from colorado, which I think they should do. He is a good defensive catcher and he can hit better than wells at this point in his career.
They will have an answer though, if stanton can come back in a week he is your cleanup hitter it is really that simple, and I do believe that will help, because he unlike some of these guys can burn you by running into one. Now how long he stays healthy that remains to be seen. Obviously they need help for the lineup, but there are not a ton of bat available right now either at the deadline still think they could fill C with Diaz in a trade, 3b they have to find someone better, and at this point, I would be temptepted to at least geta OF that coud hit a bit with dominguez down, somebody to push verdugo at this point. All is just my opinion, and I could always be wrong though.
I'd like to buy a vowel:
"Verdug_... gr_unded... _ut"
Who wants to bat cleanup?
Austin Wells becomes latest Yankees cleanup hitter amid Alex Verdugo’s slump
The cleanup spot has been an issue for the Yankees for much of the season — and especially since Giancarlo Stanton went down with a strained hamstring.
On Saturday, Austin Wells became the latest to hit fourth, taking the place of the slumping Alex Verdugo, who was bumped back to sixth against Rays right-hander Taj Bradley.
Cortes gives up a 3 run HR in the 4th so they bring him out in the 5th to give up 2 more.
Blake's tablet must be showing the blue screen of death.
Have to be honest. Have no clue what you mean on this one. The mets in my opinion this is a must win game today (As close to one a regular season game in July could be at least), can't lose another game to the marlins here today.
Yankees and Cole win. But so did the Orioles.
All the division leaders are slumping right now except for the Astros. Pirates have won 5 in a row and moving up.
Mets need to learn to count to 7. 6 ain't enough.
!! Holy crap my pants ,,,the Buccos out hit the Phillies and finished them off in the 9th. What a way to start after the break. Oh my...
He certainly isn't even his outs are hard.
Manaea not fooling anyone tonight.
Yankees entering precarious trade deadline territory with too many roster holes again

Waiting for Godot. lol.
Yes..but that is his MO ....draft a killer then sell him off. Over and over again...
Come on now the Pirates did draft Skenes. Yankees should be so lucky. We trade our good pitchers away.
? Is Robert Nutting their consultant. Jesus man....I didn't know the Yankees slumped so much either. F' me ...
Yankees immediately demoting top prospect after promotion is absolute idiocy
What's even the point?

Nothing was more fitting than the Yankees blowing an opportunity to sweep the Orioles on Sunday with two inexplicable errors and another shaky Clay Holmes performance. From a "players on the field" standpoint, that's characterized the first half, even though the Yankees got off to a 50-22 start. Yes, they are now 58-40 — 8-18 in their last 26 games.
But from a player transaction perspective, the Yankees are at it again, making wasteful and pointless roster moves that continue to hinder the team's progress. We can go as far back as the employment of Dennis Santana, which went on a month too long and extinguished Ron Marinaccio's progress and development.
This past Friday, it was more of the same. The Yankees called up top prospect Jorbit Vivas after placing JD Davis on the injured list. Wow, what a move! The Yankees need infield help and depth for the second half, so let's see what the kid can do!
Or ... not? Vivas spent the entire weekend with the team, didn't log a wink of playing time, and was demoted back to Triple-A after Sunday's finale to further worsen the vibes after the 6-5 collapse.
Welcome to the majors. Now go sit on the bench.
Yanks play the Mets next week at home on 07/23-24. Mets beat the Yanks twice in June in Queens which makes these two games must wins for Boone in my opinion.
His excuses are getting old.

Phillies, Cleveland, Orioles and Yanks.
Orioles at Cleveland for 4 starting 08/01 should separate those 2.
Unless the Yanks do something earth shattering at the deadline I don't see them contending. Jeter has got it right.
I can't say A-rods picks are any better.

Yankees #1 pick in the draft.
This past season, Hess posted a 5.80 ERA in 15 starts, pitching 68.1 innings, striking out an impressive 106 batters. His struggles revolved around his poor control, as he walked 35 batters this past year. The shaky control is not an issue that Hess has had in previous seasons.

As the second half begins, Aaron Boone’s future hangs in the balance
For the Yankees manager to keep his job, he will likely need to find solutions to the Yankees’ growing problems.
By Casey Peterson Jul 17, 2024, 8:30am EDT 4 Comments / 4 New
https://www.pinstripealley.com/2024/7/17/24200065/aaron-boone-yankees-manager-expectations-future
In December 2017, Aaron Boone was officially announced as the 33rd manager in Yankees franchise history. During his introductory press conference, he stated, “I understand what I signed up for, I understand what the expectations are. I hope those expectations are ramped up each and every year. That’s part of it. That’s certainly a part of being here.”
Now in his seventh season, those same expectations hang over the head of a manager yet to fulfill what he was brought here to do: win a World Series.
For Boone, his hope for ramped-up expectations has come true, but for all the wrong reasons. The Yankees have not won a game past the divisional round of the postseason since 2019 and have no pennants to show for under Boone’s leadership. His future as the Yankees manager will now likely come down to 64 games, a fraction of a season to finish out 2024.
Boone is in the final guaranteed year of his contract, with the Yankees still holding a club option for 2025. That’s an easy exit for the organization if things do not go well, so as much as Cashman supports him, Boone feels like the low-hanging fruit if this team does not find its groove again.
Coming off a 2023 campaign in which the Yankees posted their worst record in 31 years en route to missing the playoffs, any lapse this season would be met with scrutiny. After a hot start, the Yankees have played below-.500 baseball in June and July, raising concerns about the roster and the man set to lead them — especially since 2022 featured at least a similar script. I am cautious about how much stock to put into a manager’s impact at this level when a team is underperforming. Still, the numerous mental blunders on the basepaths and in the field leave the door open to question the manager’s ability to have his team ready to play, fair or not.
Maybe the line is hard to define, but at some point, the blame has to fall somewhere. That is why this post-All-Star break becomes so critical for Boone. It is easy to picture the Yankees losing the AL East and faltering in October based on the flaws that continue to present themselves daily with this club. If that happens, It is likely the end for Boone as the manager of the Yankees.
You may be thinking, well why not general manager Brian Cashman too? He’s the one who handed Boone this flawed roster. Well, Cashman’s contract running through 2026 indicates that he is likely not going anywhere, and owner Hal Steinbrenner has remained loyal to him despite the Yankee’s struggles. Cashman being signed could help or hurt Boone’s situation depending on how you look at it. For starters, Boone might be an easier target for the front office to push the blame away on someone whose contract is ending, but it is clear that Cashman believes in Boone. Is that relationship enough to keep the Yankees manager around for another season even if the Yankees fail again in the postseason?
But what if they turn it around and go on to win the AL East? I think a division title muddies the water on Boone’s future. An AL East crown alone is likely enough for him to keep his job, even if the postseason does not go well, as playoff success hasn’t exactly hindered Boone and Cashman’s ability to get new contracts. It comes down to what the Yankees value and continuity seems to trump other flaws, as long as people within the organization (Boone and Cashman) perform at a level good enough in the regular season to cover up their lack of postseason success. Hal tends to stick with his guys, but likely to a fault.
So here is where the Yankees stand, currently out of first place and looking to turn around what has been a dreadful month plus of baseball. Seven years ago, Boone stated that he understood what he signed up for, and that understanding is about to come full circle. If he can’t turn this team around post All-Star break then his failure to meet those New York expectations will end his time as Yankee manager. Sixty-four games will decide his future.
Bobby's brother-in-law did not do him any favors with his pitching. LOL
Your son got really screwed the pitch before when Bobby swung at that awful low and inside pitch.
When he hit the last one, at first I thought it was gone but it kept hanging and I was like uh oh. LOL
he'd never to be to sleep in that--the room would light up
Aaron Judge should represent the Yankees wearing pinstripes and not his pajamas.
Pete certainly did not repeat....Teoscar had a bit of luck to get by Bohm in the semi as Bohm had 3 swings to put him out before the swing off...
Sorry for your son but happy Teoscar came through on top. He's always put up excellent numbers but never garnered the respect those numbers deserve.
Polar bear sure flopped at this year's derby. More fuel for a deadline trade?
One of my sons had 5 in a HR Derby pool---when Hernandez hit 14 in the final, he was already spending the money with Bobby Jr still to go knowing he'd get to 15 and celebrate---that final out that hit the base of the wall was expensive

Well, beat the drum and hold the phone - the sun came out today!
We're born again, there's new grass on the field.
A-roundin' third, and headed for home, it's a brown-eyed handsome man;
Anyone can understand the way i feel.
Chorus:
Oh, put me in, coach - i'm ready to play today;
Put me in, coach - i'm ready to play today;
Look at me, i can be centerfield.
Well, i spent some time in the mudville nine, watchin' it from the bench;
You know i took some lumps when the mighty casey struck out.
So say hey willie, tell ty cobb and joe dimaggio;
Don't say "it ain't so", you know the time is now.
Chorus
Yeah! i got it, i got it!
Got a beat-up glove, a homemade bat, and brand-new pair of shoes;
You know i think it's time to give this game a ride.
Just to hit the ball and touch 'em all - a moment in the sun;
(pop) it's gone and you can tell that one goodbye!

Field of Dreams (1989)
"The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It's been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt, and erased again. But baseball has marked the time.
This field, this game, is a part of our past, Ray.
It reminds us of all that once was good, and that could be again.
Oh people will come, Ray. People will most definitely come."
