Well JRoon, you know where I come down on this.......it's all about diet and exercise and not about cholesterol...... the body needs cholesterol which is why the liver makes it...... something is damaging cholesterol in certain unhealthy folks which causes plaque buildup in the artery walls thus constricting the normal blood flow..... the fact that many elderly die with very low cholesterol is that Doctors prescribe statins like candy because of standard lipid tests show LDL around 200.

Someone posted a couple weeks ago wondering if there was an association between Alzheimer disease and high cholesterol (I think but I'll have to go find it)..... the science shows a correlation between amaloid plaque in the brain and Alzheimer's. It's important to note that the brain contains around 25% of the total body cholesterol and it's so important to the brain, that it makes it's own. Many things cannot pass through the blood/brain barrier but some of level of statins can.....that's the scary part..... I am convinced, but that's just me, that there is a correlation between statins and dementia and potentially Alzheimer's.
