RMB, I would have to go back to some of the research, but from what I recall, oftentimes they find elderly people that die of heart disease with very low cholesterol is more a function of lack of nutrition at that point in time, than specifically being caused by low cholesterol.

Another way of stating this...lifetime high cholesterol is what leads to CV disease, not necessarily high cholesterol at a single given point. So, many times someone may have been exposed to lifelong high cholesterol, but as they achieved a very old age and became elderly and frail, they begin to eat much less, and much less animal-based foods. This leads to much lower cholesterol at that point in time. So it may give the appearance of someone "dying from low cholesterol". But their low cholesterol is simply a marker of someone in decline.

So it's not that you should INCREASE cholesterol as you age, but rather, maintain your healthy diet and eating patterns.
