Daejeon-based Libest Signs LOI with U.S. Amprius for Annual Supply of 1 Million Battery Cells

South Korea-US cooperation on next-generation batteries enters full swing... Mass production of high-energy density batteries based on silicon anodes.

[Daejeon = Newsis] Libest, a next-generation battery company based in Daejeon, South Korea, announced on the 27th that it has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Amprius Technologies (NYSE: AMPX), a leading U.S. silicon anode battery technology company, for the mass production and supply of 1 million cells annually.

The signing of this LOI is significant as it formalizes an annual volume-based supply structure, building upon the manufacturing cooperation system the two companies have established over time. Moving beyond one-off projects, the scale of 1 million cells per year assumes continuous production and a stable supply chain, signaling that the partnership has entered the stage of commercial execution.

Since 2025, Amprius has been transparent about its strategy to expand contract manufacturing partnerships and its manufacturing network within South Korea, leveraging the country's advanced manufacturing capabilities to strengthen its supply chain competitiveness.

Libest has consistently built its capacity for mass production and process stabilization of high-energy density batteries based on silicon anodes at its headquarters' production lines in Daejeon. With this LOI, the company plans to further strengthen its stable mass production system and global supply responsiveness, centered around its Daejeon production hub.

The core of the Libest-Amprius agreement focuses on establishing a stable mass production system for high-energy density lithium-ion battery cells and enhancing the ability to meet the demands of global customers.

Joo-seong Kim, CEO of Libest, stated: "The signing of this LOI means that the cooperation between the two companies has entered a commercial stage based on annual supply volumes. Based on Libest's mass production stabilization capabilities—rooted in process optimization and quality control—we will continue to strengthen our role as a trusted supply partner in the global high-energy battery market."

TL;DR: South Korean battery maker Libest is scaling up with U.S.-based Amprius Technologies ($AMPX). They just signed a major deal to supply 1 million silicon anode battery cells per year, moving from R&D into serious commercial mass production.
