not a one. One time I texted Ray, but didn't get an answer.
Ernie
Hi Poorboy, I hope all is well with you and yours. Just checked out of curiosity. I am surprised the company is still breathing even shallowly.
Ernie
Gary Loomis passed away last night. Just in case anyone still reading this board would like to know.
I won't be monitoring this board so email me at emclaughlin@sbcglobal.net if you need more info.
Ernie
Actually even the decision to move wasn't an investment decision. In January of 2000 the big news was power outages. I was watching the news and they predicted massive blackouts for the summer. I said, (thinking about a June move after school was out)"I'm not going to live here without air conditioning "(110-115 degrees is not uncommon).
My wife called her sister in Washington and asked if she still had a house for rent. She did. She then checked the weather report for a break in the snow storms through Oregon. She reserved a truck for those dates and 6 days after making an innocent statement, I lived in Washington.
Although it may not have been a financially wise or successful endeavor we spent a good deal of time with my wifes first born son. He was killed in an auto accident 5 months after we left there. We consider the whole thing a blessing from God. Because how much would you pay after the fact to have spent time with a son who lived out of state before he left this world?
Ernie
When New visual went to it's high and I was a millionaire I prematurely retired and moved to Washington. Since I was out of work for a year and a half while the stock was in the dollars range I "had" to sell shares to live. I worked odd jobs and grudgingly made up the difference with stock sales. So, selling shares "I had to" was an honest statement. I wish I hadn't thought New Visual was going to the moon and quit my job when it was about 6 dollars a share but I did and the result is I am more than even.
When It became evident that New Visual was going down I took my job back and moved back to Red Bluff. I even worked for 6 months in Red Bluff while my family finished out the school year so I wouldn't "have" to sell any more shares.
SO!!! I was honest and your assuming I wasn't.
Actually this is the type of logic I try to ignore when everyone assigns evil intent to everything management does. There may be a reasonable and honest explanation, but it isn't looked for or considered when there is a perfectly delicious evil one to tout.
Ernie
Both,I mean I covered not only this investment but my other investments and I have stock left over looking for the potential.
The success of your investment has as much to do with timing as the overall performance of the stock.
Ernie
You know I don't disagree there. I have wanted more control, but control can get out of hand too. Now I haven't seen that degree of control exercised. As long as we can post enough about who we are and why we think the way we do it can work.
I know for certain that if I were to move my money out of Rim it would not go back in to any investment. Believe it of not Rim has been the about the most successful investment I have had, with the possible exception of one other small relatively short term investment which doubled my money. None of the companies I have invested in ever have come through on their promises and expectations. If having personal knowledge of the companies and management I have still not been overly successful, why would I want to try companies I know almost nothing about. Those stock alerts by everyone and their brother we get spammed with mean nothing to me. They're in the business of making money from recommending stock. I'm talking about OTC now. Investing in real producing companies is investment. This OTC world is gambling.
All that said I truly believe Rim has the goods. Hopefully the world will find out for sure soon.
Ernie
What made this board the magnet it was where lasting friendships were forged was the personality that was infused along with the discussion of Rim Semi. I have often disagreed with the application and lack thereof of deletions. I fear too rigid of enforcement may spell doom for the board.
That said Rim did OK today. Holding onto it's piddly .07 cents.
I hope news is coming soon. The implications of the bridge loans due on the 31st would indicate that. So, still holding and hoping that they come through soon.
Ernie
Better yet their a mature (over ripe) red delicious and were an about to ripen Granny Smith.
If so, maybe were the helicopter! LOL
Let's see the companies are in the same sector. They once had no product/revenue/profits. Then they did.
Could be apples to apples. One apple ripe. One apple just budding.
Ernie
All that shows is that the tick tock stock is more balanced than you alleged. Criticism is permissible, frustration is accepted.
So, what's your point?
Ernie
Brady, even tho we no longer agree on the prospects of this company or even much of the past and motives of management, I have always had respect for you. Mostly now because although you state (periodically) your disbelief you don't attack and try to ram that down the boards throat. I would have no problem with all the negative posters if they kept it about the company and not about the posters. Didn't think their opinions were fact, just because they thought it. Didn't make so much stuff up out of thin air. If they reported what they believe have been the failings of the company, and why they believe that hasn't changed and so don't believe the company either has the tech, or can commercialize it to a sufficient degree. (I not so secretly have a love of run on sentences) If they posted such negative opinions even once a week .
If each of the posters had a once a week post about all the negatives they feel and why, any newbies would be protected because that would still be the majority post. If you don't believe this just count all the negative posts and eliminate them. Then think how few posts are left. If a post every week of so were on there any newbie coming to the board would find them.
The problem is multiple posts a day from multiple posters trying to ram their opinion down everyones throats.
I still believe Rim has the goods and isd doing the best they can to commercialize it. The problem is lack of money. Too much time and too much money (overhead and salaries) has been spent on raising money and too small a percentage of that has been spent on the tech. Now that is not necessarily all managements fault. The dot com bust and the subsequent reluctance of any investors to invest in such a venture, the lack of foresight for telcos to see that they were going to lose market share to cable companies, and failure to see that there would be a huge demand for the amount of broadband there is, and that DSl in any form could not meet that goal.
So, now there is a crises of sufficient broadband with sufficient range to keep from losing their market share (ie customers)
I am still surprised some gorilla hasn't swallowed us up. That is either due to there not being good tech for them to want to swallow up, or management has done a good job of protecting the company.
You see I am actually more aware of what the problems may be and the risks than most give me credit for. I am not stating that my opinion is 100% right. It is my opinion and I am willing to wait it out to see who is right.
Ernie
I expected to get deleted. Some people can't handle the truth about themselves.
It doesn't change the message that somebody shouting their opinion over and over doesn't make it truth. It's still just their opinion.
My opinion is that Rim has the goods and is very near commercialization.
Ernie
Actually the results don't surprise me at all. Almost all the supporters of the company post very little if at all on this board. It is just not worth it to buck the status quo here. What is to be expected when the board is moderated by naynays. I was just considering deleting my bookmark for this site.
What's the point?
Ernie
Pretty cute even tho off topic. I came by my nick name honestly. I went to work at Calexico P.D. in the summer of '78. Willy Valenzuela looked at my name tag and my 45 revolver and said "we messy cans can't say that we'll just call you McCloud. I have considered it a compliment considering Dennis Weaver's character.
That said I know i am stubborn in most things. I often tell people when I'm working on locks, I may not be the best locksmith, but I stubborn enough to overcome most locks.
Evidently this applies to my investment style too
Cosmo, I see your humor was deleted. Did you delete yourself? I could have taken it as a threat, or attack. I preferred to take it as a self portrait as McCloud was famous for carrying a big gun, besides my self esteem is just fine.
I agree with all of you that waiting is frustrating. However, I don't see any of the gorilla companies with big bucks behind them that have had better success. I am sure that if Rim had had 20 million in the bank seven years ago we would have seen at least 2 or 3 years of huge revenues and no dilution. Instead of that the company has had to spend most of their time and effort raising money too much of which has gone to overhead (mostly salaries) instead of development. You see that as dishonesty, I see it as a fact of life. I wish it had been different, but have to deal with the reality of it. I still believe we will see success and revenues.
Ernie
Cosmo, you say that they have not produced results in 7 years. You could say that they have not produced results that you personally have seen/purchased/tested or results that have resulted in revenue. Based on the reports by Telcordia, and statements by many other companies, and individuals I would have to say they have produced quite a bit. I don't have a clue how long it takes or how much work goes into a tech development like this. I am quite sure several if not many companies have worked longer and put much more money into trying to produce something like Cupria.
As for what evidence I have that Ray and Brad are working hard v.what you have they are not, I would much rather assume a person is good than assume they are bad with no evidence to prove either.
As I said before I can look at a person and believe they may be a thief, liar, drug user, but to accuse them requires evidence.
Here on this board posters feel free to accuse management of anything they can think of even when they have no ability to know the facts of the accusation.
These accusations tell me more about the accuser than the accused. It is perfectly acceptable to me for a person to choose not to invest because they feel results are taking too long, or they feel they can't trust management, or just gut feelings. It is legitimate to post that they have these feelings and chose not to invest. What just rubs me the wrong way is to state as fact accusations that a person has no evidence to back up.
I would much rather assume honesty and be wrong, then to assume dishonesty and live thinking the worst of those around me. Even if my assumption cost me money. Losing money is preferable to losing heart and soul.
Other than I have had calls returned late at night and on weekends.

President's Letters
President's Letter
July 16, 2007
Dear Fellow Shareholders,
Rim Semiconductor Company is aggressively attacking the broadband marketplace because of the very strong revenue growth potential for our Cupria™ line of transport processors. Cupria™ allows data to be transmitted at greater speed and across extended distances over existing copper wire—all with the highest quality of service—for a better end-user experience.
Our target is the huge and expanding demand for chips that drive broadband across copper wire. This marketplace is several hundred million dollars per year now, and is set to reach one and a half billion dollars. Our success will come as we create market share in this billion dollar marketplace.
To understand the scope of our opportunity for revenue, start with the scale of the copper loops in the world. In the past six years it has grown from around a billion loops to almost 1.4 billion. That’s a 400 million line add! Compare that 400 million to the 5 million line growth of fiber[1]. So, our product is targeted at the hottest segment of telecom. It’s the largest and the fastest growing.
One of our business partners tell me that the reason his company is so committed to working with Rim Semi is because there are very few new chip opportunities that have a chance to address a marketplace that is this big. Most of the other new companies that he works with are playing in markets that are measured in the tens of millions, or if they’re lucky, hundreds of millions. Rim Semi’s marketplace is a $1.5 billion – per year – one.
So if copper is so hot, then why don’t US investors hear more about it? One reason is that the US is losing two or three million lines (about 2%) per year to the cable companies[2]. But the rest of the world more than offsets this loss. China alone adds about 40 million copper loops per year. They are building the equivalent of a new AT&T every two years! (By the way, the number two country that people who visit our web site come from is China. Number one is the US.)
So if the number of copper loops is growing so quickly, then how many of them get broadband service? Increasingly, the majority of them do. For the rest of this decade, about 100 million lines per year will be upgraded or installed as broadband. Each of those needs a chipset like Cupria™. 100 million lines per year, at fifteen dollars per line[3] equals, a one and a half billion dollar revenue opportunity per year.
We want our fair share of the market. Broadband chips that are a hit product routinely generate revenues in excess of one hundred million dollars per year. A chip that does $100 million is only a 7% market share. We certainly believe that we will achieve much more market share than that. In fact, just the existing customer relationships and the memoranda of understanding[4] that we have announced would achieve this goal.
Since the opportunity is so large, then our efforts here are worth it. There is virtually no limit on the time, the sacrifice, the expense and the passion that we should spend in order to stake our place. Why do we believe that we will indeed achieve our goals? Because the IPSL technology that underlies the Cupria™ product is simply better than the competition. Not better by a little. It’s better by a lot. Enough better that the telcos who control these 1.4 billion loops are taking notice of Rim Semi.
The opportunity is so big, and the customers are so open, that we are taking the time and spending the money necessary to ensure that our chip, and the Cu5001 line card that we use to demonstrate it, are of a very high quality. Our engineering team is working hard to get it right the first time so that the ASSP only needs to be fabricated once. Our goal is to ramp revenues quickly based on a high quality product that needs no rework. We believe that we will achieve this goal.
The revenue opportunity is enormous. The price is worth the prize. We are committed to reaching this enormous income potential, and thus driving shareholder value.
Sincerely,
Brad Ketch
President and CEO
Rim Semiconductor Company
Cosmo, I don't know who or what your referring to here and I don't care. re; "His view of the situation is that Brad and Ray and working long hours diligently trying to perfect the high speed copper tech and thereby changing the world and rewarding investors beyond their dreams.
However, from my point of view they are. This is born out of significant time sitting in the office trying to get a word with Ray while he fields phone calls and questions from staff. Also, time on the phone with him while he also gets interrupted by staff with questions etc..
Your attitude that they are not working hard is drawn from vast amounts of thin air.
Ernie
Why even mention a reverse? There has been nothing said by the company other than "NO REVERSE SPLIT". The statements as fact by naysayers does not give any credence to the statement.
When people make statements then people start discussing it as if the company has actually said it or proposed it, your giving credence to statements that have none. Shouldn't we wait until the company at least mentions something as a possibility before we start blasting the company for it?
Although I was often plagued with impatience and the feeling that if what Rim has is as good as they say then why hasn't some big company just bought us out. Were only talking 50 million to buy all the stock. So, 25 million would gain control. Then I think if someone started trying to buy controlling interest the sp would sky rocket before they got 10%. So, then I think a company like Embarg could buy a chunk from the company in order to fund us and get the job done.
Then the other side of my reasoning gained the upper hand, and I thought that if we were dealing with companies like Embarg , they would want to keep this as quiet as possible while they do absolutely thorough beta testing. During that time they want to keep cable companies and other competition in the dark. Then I realized that if this were a scam that is just what they would want us all to think.
All this wrangling of thoughts have been reduced to minor background noise in my brain after the statements by Telcordia, Embarg, eSilicon, TSMC. Then came the hirings of several highly qualified engineers and industry experts (see interviews posted on http://www.ticktockstock.com/index.html).
So, now after all these years I have gone from reasonably sure and hopeful, to pretty comfortable that Rim has the goods. I believe marketability is imminent. I am only really concerned about market share and outstanding share count.
I am probably in a better position than most of our investors as all my remaining shares are free to me. I wish I had a lot more left, and that I got more out of what I did sell, but I can wait for the rest of the story to play out.
Ernie
Balanced might be a better term for you to claim. That way you can "speculate on the negative side as much as you speculate on the positive side" . To be objective you would have to be interpreting actual statements and evidence, not just making stuff up.
I can speculate that somebody is a thief and liar, but I cannot claim it is objective unless I have real knowledge and evidence of such activity.
This of course is my opinion.
Ernie
Saying they are going to imagine invent another more dramatic product is saying that you think that is all they have been doing. That is not even close to being objective it is joining the chorus of naysayers, who have claimed all along that this is nothing but a scam . In doing so you have to be saying that Telcordia, hellosoft, eSilicon, TSMC, and even Embarq are all participating in a scam.
I am as frustrated with the delays as anyone, but there is no reason to make stuff up and call it being objective.
Ernie
Why beat around the bush, just say you are through with your pump cycle for now and have rejoined the "this is nothing but a scam crowd"
Ernie
I don't think anyone said "complete recovery". Any movement upward can be deemed recovering. If I'm in bed sick and the fever breaks and I can get out of bed and eat I am recovering. I probably am not recovered enough to run a marathon.
Ernie
If jarsch will forgive me, I appreciate the almost 10% recovery on almost triple the average volume.
Check out changes on Rim semi's site. Look under products/ technology
Ernie
However, it is most likely perfectly understandable when a 10% downturn garners posts about how this thing is going to sub penny.
Of course there is a positive reaction when things move in a positive direction. Especially after a downturn.
From the June 8 Presidents letter;" Our technical goal over the last few months has been to release version 1.6 on a line card that will work in a telephone network. The line card that is pictured here carries the version 1.6 software and is for sale. We have received one purchase order for it, and during our current quarter we expect to receive more orders. "
The info I have heard is that the ability of telcos to test our chip is greatly enhanced by the availability of this line card. I still don't understand the version 1.5 v 1.6. I believe eSilicon and TSMC worked on mass producing the 1.5 chip. It also states that the line card is version 1.6. So, I believe the two work together.
Ernie
Better volume and buying pressure than we have seen for awhile.
Ernie
Happy Birthday!!! Wheels
the present is coming soon!!
Ernie
Not many posts from the believers side. I believe that is because we have statements from many industry experts to support our belief and therefore are content to wait.
On the other side of the equation all the posters have is their opinion. Many think that if they yell something loud enough and often enough their belief will win. Kind of like the bully in the playground.
News bulletin!!! just because something is repeated often doesn't change it from opinion to fact.
Ernie
No, they always said that Cupria was faster, but they wee releasing the 26 mps level because that is what telcos needed. They would release faster versions when demand was such . It appears that there may be demand for the faster version. However, they also said that v.1.6 was more efficient. I.E. fewer gates , less heat, cheaper production costs. Those reasons may have dictated the release.
At the time of my first post I thought that after tooling up to produce the ASSP and the line card they were changing versions. Then I went back and read the last presidents letter. It makes more sense now. At least to me. LOL
Ernie
The president's letter of June 8th mentions version 1.6. So, apparently this is the version that was produced by eSilicon and TSMC. Also, most likely it is the version to be, or already delivered to Extreme Copper.
This may not be as much of a departure from course as per my first impression. I only did a quick read as I had to leave very early to take my dad to cataract surgery.
I would expect a presidents letter out soon to help clarify this latest PR. When we were clicking along the track counting off stations knowing what stations are left ( we were expecting beta testing by Embarq and others, and the raising off the additional funds needed to get to full production, and large orders) now they have suddenly thrown the switch and changed tracks. This IMO would not be done without huge benefits. I would say there was huge demand for tech that would go further and faster. The less expense and less complex chip design is a benefit, but probably in and of itself not enough to justify a course change. If this were a scam a course change would be completely avoided at this point. So I would say funding may have been more available with a more pronounced advantage of additional speed and distance at less production cost.
Whatever the reasoning I would expect (in my train analogy) that the track was switched because the new track is straighter and faster, going through the mountain instead of winding up and around it.
Anticipating more detail, Ernie
I am content to let it play out, that is why I don't read the posts from the dirty dozen. I just like to throw an occasional jab out there just to let some know there are still some who believe Rim has the goods.
Ernie
Impatience is of course a very relative term. You can be patient for years, but if you quit being patient before reaching the goal it was still impatience. Only persevering to the end is enough patience. If you quit because the wait isn't worth it to you that is fine, but if the expected goal is ever reached it was still impatience. If the goal is never reached then you probably had too much patience for that endeavor, and should never have begun to begin with.
Whatever you say, the few on this board devoting their days to bashing this stock for whatever reason are still running roughshod over the many investors. I believe (and in many cases know) most who have quit posting are still in the stock as investors. They just don't see the need to run the gauntlet daily against the obsessed bashers.
I don't ignore you like the others because you post only occasionally. I have respect for you.
It appears the bashers have won possession of another board. We gave up Silicon Investors years ago, and then again Raging Bull****. Some of you may feel that that proves something. IT DOESN'T . The believers and supporters just go somewhere else to discuss their investment. There are about 10,000 investors and a dozen or so bashers, who apparently have as their sole objective to trample all over the rights of the investors. (and don't give me your "were saving the newbies" bit. First of all I won't see it, and second none of you give the impression of being that altruistic)
There are some jilted lovers, sour grapes born of impatience, etc. Some who just don't believe the story, but faced with all the statements from those outside the company it is completely untenable of a position to continue to believe there is nothing. I mean to say the company has a tech that appears to do what they say. Now arguments that they will never get it to market, or become profitable because of the OS, are reasonable arguments. Continuing to say that this is a complete scam, and there is no tech is completely unreasonable a position.
Ernie
While I respect your opinion and sage advice, I believe times are different now. I believe field trials are imminent or maybe already begun. They are or will be kept under wraps for obvious reasons. As for the extended time it is taking, Rim is doing this on a shoestring and having to raise money on a shoestring.
AS for the progression of the share price shown by Microsoft, in those years the computer industry was just emerging and was not known to be the giant it has become. It is a giant now and the telcos are struggling to hold onto their customers. They must find a way to compete with cable and wireless providers. This a hugely different scenario and will cause faster growth. I expect sp and bottom line growth to be much faster than you expect, but slower than some of us expect.
We will see.
