He's not in the article but he has a PhD in Telesurgery and the article is about it in Canada.
Dr. Rayman has a PhD in this.

Thanks a lot point for all the great info. The quick instrument swapping was something that is very important to a surgeon in order not to slow down the case. What you have said and what the video shows both confirm what Dr. Fowler told me on the phone 2 months ago. Long and strong Titan!
Only the older surgeons.
I am impressed.
As for the video...me likey the technology. As for the surgeons ability to tie knots robotically....not so much.
I could you please post the link? I could not find the finished prototype with google. Thanks.
Pretty much.
He already has.
Nice article.
I don't doubt that at all. Investors have been making a lot of money from pharmaceutical companies for decades. Dr. Frost bought and sold Key pharmaceuticals. It's just that when someone promotes a surgical robotic company (which is a very new and often misunderstood field) and names two DOCTORS. I would expect them to have expertise in the field of robotic surgery technology. I just felt misled.
No. I am not very knowledgable in company finance. I've been learning a lot from you and others on the other bored. As a very experienced board certified general surgeon who loves technology and surgery, I know when things don't add up from the medical/surgical point of view.
A little misleading. Dr. Frost is a 77yo billionaire who used to be a dermatologist a long time ago when dermatologist made millions. Dr. Hsiao is a PhD MBA. They know nothing about surgery and definitely nothing about robotic surgery. They are just rich investors. Not practicing medical doctors. Thanks for supplying their names. Now I know I'll never invest in this company.
This is true. Also Titan wants SPORT to used for every possible intra-abdominal surgery. The trocar size will be smaller than 25mm.
I wonder how Titan will deal with future updated versions of SPORT. I think Intuitive's method is flawed. You can't blind side surgeons and hospitals. We don't have time to learn new technologies on a whim just because they decided when it works best for them. Hospitals don't have unlimited funds. By their own admission they view themselves as a technology company not a medical device company. They take their lead from Apple headquarters in California. That's why they rolled out the new Xi system like Apple unveils a new iPhone. People don't line up for surgical robots which are multimillion dollar investments for hospitals. I think this is wrong! Think Gilead....unsustainable!
Okay I'm confused. An Intuitive high-ranking Specialty Sales Manager (only 8 in the company) told me that the Xi would not be needed by a hospital that is doing bread-and-butter general surgery. He was trying to calm me down since I was upset that the Xi (which is more expensive then the Si) came out after my hospital just bought an Si last year. He said the Xi was meant for high-volume hospitals that do a lot of colorectal and thoracic surgery. Now I found out that Intuitives Xi will be required for their single site technology? Single site surgery is most beneficial form bread-and-butter general surgery. I'm going on strike!
The intuitive rep at my hospital just got canned. Looks like fewer reps are covering more hospitals. Party's over.
Maybe to much traffic! A good thing!
Ouch!
I'm so frustrated with ISRG! I did a single site robotic gallbladder case today and it was such a pain! Only one surgical assistant is trained in single and is on vacation. There are so many steps to docking this huge robot through a single opening. I'm not sure it's worth it anymore. This may have been my last. I think the rep didn't show up because I complained about the Xi (not his fault of course). A higher up in the company wants to meet me tomorrow. I think I'll wait for SPORT.
GTAT just featured on Mad Money. Just started following because of what I heard. May take a position soon.
Thanks for sharing. I copied and pasted your story and sent it to my family members that I've been trying to convince to invest in Titan!
Great idea! You should write to them.
Agreed 200%!
How recent a buyer gets a swap?
Are you going to sell warrants to buy more shares? If so, how do you know when it's the right time to get the most shares from the sales of your warrants?
Welcome to the board. Are you planning to go into surgery? What event did you here about Titan? This could help pay off those student loans....if you will have any!
Makes perfect sense to me. Dr. Fowler told me their would be more offerings. I think it's a good thing. More money in the bank can only help and they can now focus on developing the product.
They are trying to get all the financing they will need?
Yes they do.
Plus he's a rapper from Canada!
Dumb song, my kids says it's old but very appropriate here.
Started from the bottom, now we're here!
Intuitive bought the original technology when the company was formed. They did not start off from any original idea. Than they stole ideas from Computer in Motion and got sued than merged. Samsung actually did steal ideas from Apple. SPORT is an original.
I don't think they need to be consulted. I think they would be impressed and applaud the effort....maybe even give us more info. Just a thought.
Titan is really concentrating on costs and keeping it below or equal to lap. SPORT will enable a robotic lap chole to be done quickly due to being one insertable component IMHO.
In the real world common bile injuries are very rare. It may be double but they are both a fraction of a percent. General surgeons trained in the the last 10 years have done lap choles vs open choles about 50 to 1. We only open for the worst possible cases, retained stones etc so I don't think it's not a fair comparison in today's world.
Shouldn't Titan medical be informed about this positive endeavor?
SPORT will have an access port instead of a third arm. So a human will be the "third arm" if needed. I think this will be fine and means less crowding for the mechanical parts. The third arm on the DaVinci is used primarily to retract or hold. It doesn't take much to do that. I think in the long term surgical assistants will play this key role in robotics and third arms won't be needed. It's also cost effective.
When will that be and when did your hospital get the Si?
Not at all. SPORT is a different animal. I think their always be a place for multisite and single site robotic surgery. 2 different entities. I think eventually single site will out phase multisite, just don't know when and to what extent.
What's intriguing is that the camera can be moved to any arm or port for change of view. Something that is done in laparoscopic surgery all the time. This is definitely a game changer. I just talked to my current rep. His boss is in California learning about the new system.
