LOL!! Phil--OT-- Just another child looking for your online porno,, keep the spammers in business, boy.
ROFLMAO!! Sorry Maxine,,eom
Sorry Max, 2 years in SEA in the '60s made me a realist and understand the need to respect the rights (and life) of others. When anyone steps on the rights of others, or threatens them, they pay the penalty. Seems the Tim that attempted the robbery (TL, or whomever) did as you suggest-- "reap what you sow". When you have stared death in the face and maybe even sent some on their way YOU will understand the shopkeepers point of view. May you become a big boy in you next life.
Fred-- Looks like he picked those to rob as well as his stocks,, A late 90s self-proclaimed guru,,, Still, how bright is it to bring a toy to a gunfight? He was fun to watch once in awhile. Sad when anyone dies-- but cannot say in that situation, no matter if it was TL or not-- they recd what was deserved and saved insurance compays and taxpayers some bux. Hope the country reimburses the shop owner for the ammo.
They do not call those threads "The Zoo" for no reason,,eom
Actually on a scale of ZERO to 5 the chances are MINUS 25!
Thanks for the info on novn-- bought this am 9.89 - 9.90..for a swing trade. Also added mntg for a swing-- but it is a little red. Not much else on my screen is green,, a little MO just went,, only up $2,, trying to hold the majority for a bit more,,
Lane --OT--OT,, Carter was a very weak Pres. No problem with his faith,, more should follow his footsteps in that direction. He is weaker in mind than ever. People actually believe he is more than a walking fool. He should speak on nothing more than religion & peanuts or be institutionalized.
Do the 5 yr chart,, its even a bigger chuckle,,eom
The best part is:"I think if Iraq continues to completely comply" with the U.N. resolution, "then
I see no reason for the war," Carter said Sunday at the airport, accompanied by
his wife, Rosalyn, and other family members.
OSLO, Norway, Dec 08, 2002 (AP WorldStream via COMTEX) -- Jimmy Carter gets the
Nobel Peace Prize on Tuesday in a ceremony that the chairman of the Norwegian
committee behind the award says is 24 years overdue.
Carter, now 78, would have been included in the 1978 Peace Prize for mediating
the Camp David peace accord between Israel and Egypt, but he was nominated after
the deadline.
So the former American president is being honored "for his decades of untiring
effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance
democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development."
Carter's stay in Oslo will be marked by three days of events, starting with a
news conference and a small dinner with members of the prize committee Monday.
He has an audience with Norway's King Harald V and attends the awards ceremony
Tuesday.
The day after the prize is given, Carter goes to the traditional Nobel Peace
Concert held in the laureate's honor. This year's event is hosted by actors Sir
Anthony Hopkins and Jessica Lange and features performers Willie Nelson and
Santana, among others.
If the five-member award committee had gotten its way, Carter would have been
given the prize - along with the accompanying medal, diploma and check - in
1978.
The prize that year went to Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin and Egyptian
President Anwar Sadat, both of whom signed the agreement. The committee wanted
Carter to stand with them as a fellow laureate, but he wasn't nominated until
after the deadline.
Nominations can be made by former laureates, committee members, some university
professors and selected organizations. The nominations are kept secret for 50
years, although those making them often announce their choice.
Carter's near-miss came to light when Stig Ramel, a Swede who was then director
of the Swedish Nobel Foundation, revealed the oversight in his 1994 memoirs. He
said the Peace Prize committee had asked the Nobel Foundation to determine if
Carter could be included for the 1978 prize; it was told no.
The story was confirmed when this year's prize was announced in October. Gunnar
Berge, chairman of Peace Prize committee, said Carter "could not be included
back then because of the deadline."
Carter, a former Georgia governor elected president in 1976 after a campaign
that stressed honesty following the Watergate scandal, has continued to work for
peace and human rights in globe-trotting diplomacy that has taken him to Africa,
North Korea and most recently Cuba.
He was seen as an uncontroversial selection for this year's Nobel Peace Prize,
an award that often irks governments and groups. A flap erupted anyway when
Berge said the prize should also be considered a "kick in the leg" to President
George W. Bush for his hard line against Iraq.
As Carter arrived in Norway on Sunday, Iraq had submitted a nearly 12,000-page
report on its weapons program in compliance with a Dec. 8 deadline under the
U.N. Security Council Resolution.
Bush has threatened war against Iraq on the belief that it is hiding weapons of
mass destruction - something Iraq denies.
"I think if Iraq continues to completely comply" with the U.N. resolution, "then
I see no reason for the war," Carter said Sunday at the airport, accompanied by
his wife, Rosalyn, and other family members.
The Nobel prizes - first awarded in 1901 - were created by Swedish industrialist
Alfred Nobel in his will and are always presented on Dec. 10, the anniversary of
his death in 1896.
The prizes each include a 10 million Swedish kronor (US$1 million) cash award.
The peace prize is awarded in Oslo, while the prizes in economics, medicine,
physics, chemistry and literature are presented in Stockholm, Sweden.
Dec 09, 2002 (ODJ Select via COMTEX) -- The Cabinet Office revised the data
upward after including previously unavailable information, such as the September
current account data and demand figures for capital investment, an official
briefing reporters said.
The net export drag on the economy was revised down to a 0.2 point fall,
compared with a preliminary 0.1 point drop. The fall in capital investment
slowed to minus 0.5% from the original drop of 0.9%.
Personal consumption was revised up to 1.0% compared with the preliminary figure
of 0.8% due to an increase in the weighting of insurance and pension-related
expenditures in the data, he said.
The revised figures show the Japanese economy expanded for only one quarter, not
two straight quarters as first reported as the government revised down first
quarter growth from 0.2% to flat. Second quarter growth was revised down from
1.0% to 0.9%.
But analysts said growth is expected to slow in the fourth quarter due to
faltering exports and concerns over Japanese financial markets and deflation,
raising fears another slump may be around the corner.
If the economy contracts less than 1.2% in each of the last two quarters, Japan
will still be on able to hit the government's target of 0.2% growth for the
fiscal year through March, the Cabinet Office said.
ROFLMAO--- Former pres carter, senile for 75 of his 78 years gets 1 MM bux for being an idiot and saying crap that would have him jailed in any other country. Why is he allowed to talk when he should be in a nursing home or mental institution?
LOL! If you think the futures do not like the pick wait until you see the mkt reaction this week,,,sux may describe tomorrow easily..
True syl-- but still about 10% overvalued here no matter what they are doing,, Next dip under 50 on wmt may get it into the 'interesting' range again..
syl-- doubt anyone wanted to see this;;;
President George W. Bush is
expected on Monday to nominate CSX Corp. <CSX.N> Chairman John
Snow to be U.S. treasury secretary, sources familiar with the
decision said on Sunday.
Sources also said Stephen Friedman, who served as
co-chairman of Goldman Sachs with former Treasury Secretary
Robert Rubin, will be named to head up the White House National
Economic Council.
Both announcements are expected on Monday barring any
last-minute glitch in reviews of both candidates' backgroun
As for div tax relief,, what was published early today (and can not be found) indicated it would only drop indiv rates about 5% on issues purchased after the law went in and held for a year or more. Not a lot of good in the near term for indivs,, bus break to drop inc tax on them from 36.9 to 35%,not a hell of a lot of incentive there either. More smoke & mirrors except for the long term holder buying new div paying issues. Do they dump shares in order to buy new ones at a diff date? Sounds more like DEM bs than GOP plan..
Maine-- it is a SELECTIVE buyers mkt in nearly everything except real estate IMO. Those that wait to buy when 'things pick up' will pay a lot more than today or next month. Most items (& companies) will get cheaper before the prices rise but the true SALES can offer great bargains for those with the resources to hold on for awhile.
Evidently we agree Sherlock356. Sold 50% of my corp bonds and added stock & junk bonds a short time ago. Both doing well. The bonds have not YET dropped as much as expected though. Holding, hopefully, through 1 or more int payments,, a LITTLE greed will not hurt,,
Too bad UAL did not just go *POOF*,, and take US Air with them,, why prolong the agony in the sector?
ROFLMAO,eom
Thanks Joe,, still I do not have the fortitude to buy Chinese stocks,, however a M-fund may prove interesting,, research is in order I guess.. anyone have any ideas??
Its not a very productive situation. Besides, unions do not mean higher quality just higher costs in most cases. At one time they provided a great service to the employees. Laws have been inacted to see the things unions stood for no longer happen. At this time unions mostly seem concerned for the unions, not the employees (although they talk a good game) or the survival of the company (UAL mechanics are a good example). Even Walmart is aware of the impact on bottom line of unions. If they become unionized either profits go much lower or the competition eats their lunch. Either way they suffer, as do SHs and eventually there are fewer employees. Many of those working the high paying steel jobs 15 - 20 years ago are now working at Walmart & Mickey Ds. If those jobs disappear,,,,,,,, well cutting grass and shoveling snow??????
Joe-- you are on target. Much of the mfg jobs have been sent out of country. A small difference comes from the # of vehicles produced in Canada. Many vehicle parts such as engines & transmissions have been made in Mexico for years. Mexico has much less expensive labor and Asiain labor is next to free so far. I am far from anti-union but much of the loss of jobs can be traced back to work rules as much or more than wage differences. One major reason for steels downfall was the 13 week vacations some had along with far too many required employees. When a machine operator cannot even oil or tighten a screw on the machine,,,,,,,,,, Unions need these rules as they must have a level of employees to pay dues.................... Expect many more jobs to leave. Ask Asians about strikes, if 1 company in Hong Kong gets pricey another in China will be happy to take the work. Quality is no longer a problem and may even supercede products made here. There is no longer a single company producing mens dress shirts in the US,, went the way of TV mfg. I want to talk to anyone that believes our economy can survive on services while producing next to nothing.
No one would be upset,, LOL! Actually you may find a lot of assistance in that endeavor as long as there was ZERO $$ going back. Most likely CA & NY would turn into a bigger drain,, like a 3rd world country. The lack of leadership, not just fiscal, is a standing joke. Even NY fares better in that area,, Now just removing all the military bases that sub those economys would put them nearly on par with Guatamaula,,
Right-- taxes ARE too high there,, but the services provided border on excessive. Pay for them with more state & local taxes,, leave the FEDs dool out of it. Whinning about everything from highways to elec,,the rest of the country is tired of subsidising those two states. No-- do not live in either for,, WOULD not live in either,, or a couple others also for different reasons,,
Time for the govt to STOP giving $$ to the states and force them to financially regulating themselves,,,,, esp NY & CA..
sylvester80-- I doubt it will happen to either. If US Air went *POOF*, as it deserves, the other major airlines would not continually count on employee give backs and the fed govt to bail them out. For decades there has been a belief that ALL the major airlines are needed. Everyone agrees with that but the question of HOW MANY major airlines has never been addressed. Watching US Air go *POOF* would send a wake up call to all involves, from the boardrooms to the union halls. Only then would some of the CEOs of the profitable minor lines be looked at as replacements. If we were fortunate enough to see UAL not be able to get funding & go *POOF* the sector would become healthier. The drawback there is the majors would have (temporary) pricing power in US markets and continue to make dumb mistakes.
That would be a great thing for the industry. Not only U S Air but inc United too,,, *POOF* and the industry gets healthy much faster. One can hope.........
maine- Greensperm has many problems beginning with credability loss and ending with senility. GW should have fired him long ago but since the skirt chaser reappointed him shortly before the Dems being flushed from PA Ave he tried to keep a little peace,, a mistake for certain.
Well, I'd not call Sony exactly 'top tier',, more like 2nd shelf. Buyers perceive their PC as more than a boombox. As the article said SONY is going to supply these on the PCs THEY sell in European countrys. Maybe they will be successful... maybe not. They may find customers do not want SUNWoffice (it certainly is not a real Star IMO) and find their sales suffer. Then again,, Works is not a real STAR either. And I no longer own msft,,,,,,,
zhina-- Sadly IMO, they will survive and be a drain on the industry for decades. If UAL and US Air would just go *POOF* the industry would be much healthier. These 2 have weak mgmt with unions that only are interested when it looks to be belly up time. Eliminate these seats and pricing comes back. Why is it airlines never cease to exist no matter how much they deserve to?
T G -- <<in contrast to the U.S. where the
worst is definitely behind us.">> Since I do not believe the US can sustain the economy as a service and non-producing country we may see things a bit differently. The labor rate in Asia has taken a huge toll on thev US economy. In time, possibly not many years, China will have nearly all the mfg jobs other, mostly Asian countries, have not already taken. The Chinese see this and are very happy to take the US investment dollars now knowing we are paying for our own LT economic distruction.
Finallythere-- re csco,, kinda scarey. We live by the rule 'buy low, sell high' and then there is chambers. csco sits on about $40 B cash. He had no problem buying competitors when they were tremendously overvalued. Now that some others are 1/2 price or less he has no balls,, brains have become questionable. Guess he wants to wait so he can pay 2 - 10 times more later!
The storage area will grow. Many companys feel the need to store more & more. One day they will realize exactly what needs stored and at what retention periods. Doubtful that will come soon but storing the the last paperclip purchase for 5 decades does not seem like a REQUIRED file. There are soon to be billions of files like that being stored -- just one more record. Lets see-- I have 80 gig,, how many jokes sent by friends are needed to be stored for my grandchildren's grandchildren?
Finally, Hard to say. Jet Blue is on the 'new' side and there are a ton of pilots out of work. I thought their pilots were on the same scale as AAI,, about 110 - 120 per hour. Note,, Continental and most majors fly about 900 hours per year. The majors are paying 225 - 250 per hr. Makes me laugh at Delta thinking they can compete on the low end. Many have tried (inc Delta) and none have succeeded. Delta is also planning on running 757s,, the airlines making money are small and flying new (less repair & DT costs) and smaller (717s etc) in order to FILL the plane and have smaller operating costs. US Air & United should just be allowed to fold! That would be great for the entire industry, & esp the surviving majors.
Finallythere-- 200K is way under the avg for the 900 hours worked by major airline pilots. A few extra flights and add bonus........... AAI pilots range just over 100K.
Maine-- the end of June ends support for NT4 & Win 98. No changes,, just no support from MSFT. One only should hit the update page a couple weeks prior to the end of support date and forget about it. Besides there are other companys that offer support (@ a cost)------ & I know a trader still running Win 3.1 on an old (very old) machine he uses as a back-up. Doubt there is enough memory in the box to run anything else if a new Win Ver was installed..
S M -- Gotta love it. If UNtrue it shows AOL & others still trying to give MSFT problems (Maybe the 1 state AG that will waste more taxpayer $$ ?). If true-- Gates the Nerd has bigger balls than I thought..
sama-- over the years I've tried about every wireless company in the area. There are many differences in phones, services offered, pricing, & etc. The one thing they have in common is service SUX! Not one can eliminate static on 1 end or the other or stop dropped calls. Its like getting a monthly bill for stress & frustration provided.
<<"The Euro version of 3G can not even hand off a mobile phone
between cell towers yet.">> NOK just tested a phone that tranfers back when 3G is unavail. It works-- but is there not enough bs with cells that need fixed 1st?
Now you gotta give the non-thinkers info,,LOL! Hoping for a few more weeks with so called "good numbers" from wmt. Make a few bux long & then short it,,
