Joe-- you are on target. Much of the mfg jobs have been sent out of country. A small difference comes from the # of vehicles produced in Canada. Many vehicle parts such as engines & transmissions have been made in Mexico for years. Mexico has much less expensive labor and Asiain labor is next to free so far. I am far from anti-union but much of the loss of jobs can be traced back to work rules as much or more than wage differences. One major reason for steels downfall was the 13 week vacations some had along with far too many required employees. When a machine operator cannot even oil or tighten a screw on the machine,,,,,,,,,, Unions need these rules as they must have a level of employees to pay dues.................... Expect many more jobs to leave. Ask Asians about strikes, if 1 company in Hong Kong gets pricey another in China will be happy to take the work. Quality is no longer a problem and may even supercede products made here. There is no longer a single company producing mens dress shirts in the US,, went the way of TV mfg. I want to talk to anyone that believes our economy can survive on services while producing next to nothing.
