Arctec, have you noticed a drop in the overall speed since you installed XP?
I have 512 MB of memory and XP uses about 223 of that.
IMO, way too much.
One guy told me to add more memory.(my mobo can take up to 1K per slot), but all I would be doing is compensating for the memory being used by the OS............and getting no better results than I did with 98 SE and the currant memory.
HMMMMM??????
Artec, You and I are going through the exact same thing.
Do you keep getting popup windows from Norton?
If so, click on one of the links in the window and set it for Automatic.
The popups will stop.
Also, XP has it's own firewall.
If you're using both it might help to disable one of them
FWIW, I hate firewalls, but they look like a necessary evil with XP.
And, that damn blaster virus nails you almost as soon as you go online.
Not to mention that XP gobbles up about 60% of memory
I'm not sure what the benefits are either.
All these tech wizzes say it's great, but that's the same thing they said about Win 2000
I'm on the verge of wiping my HD again and going back to 98SE

AGRD is on my post-RS bounce list.
The current PPS is .015 and I'm looking for an entry around .004
The OS, after the RS, was 504.5M.
IMO, an OS that big cuts down on the volatility of the PPS, plus, in December they issued another 50M.
But, who knows......this PR and more like it could cause it to bounce early.
Thanks Linchuck, we agree on the burnout...
I'm A+ certified, but that doesn't train you for the programming that has to be done after you build it.
I took a class to become Microsoft certified, finished it, but it was so boring I never tested for it.
I've built three of my own computers and, that's enough.
My next one will probably be a wireless laptop with support backup....:)
Besides, did you see that PR I posted about IBZT last week.
It looks like they have a little palm-type that projects a holographic image of a keyboard.(my kinda stuff Cap't Kirk!)
I'll be glad when I can just talk to the damn things....:)
So far, all I have is my printer yelling at me...but that's a step...:)
HYVR news...........
VANCOUVER, Wash., Jan 22, 2004 (PRIMEZONE via COMTEX) --
Hydro Environmental Resources, Inc. (OTCBB:HYVR) Interim-CEO Mark Shmulevsky said: 'We are pleased to announce our first sale of the by-product produced during the production of pure commercial-grade Hydrogen at low-pressure in our reactor. Over the past 12 months, we have completed all necessary testing and third-party lab analysis of the byproduct for content and purity. We have begun the process of identifying strategic partners interested in the purchase of these chemical by-products. Our by-product has a number of uses in both commercial and industrial applications. The by-product can be easily removed from our vessel after the initial materials have been chemically consumed during the production of hydrogen. We believe the added revenue opportunity from the sale of these by-products, coupled with the production of hydrogen gas and recoverable heat energy produced, continue to make our technology extremely viable and cost-effective in the growing alternative energy industry.'
Each reactor, based on application size put in production, will yield a known amount of recoverable, sellable by-product.
The company also concluded field testing of its reactor installed in the home of former CEO David Rosenberg. During its testing, Mr. Rosenberg hosted Oregon U.S Senator Ron Wyden. During the visit, the senator was shown the unit being utilized in the application of supplying hydrogen and heat energy.
The unit was installed to supplement the existing hydronic heating system. This was the company's first field testing of the unit's development of both the unit's heat exchange process and by-product recovery. The field test has confirmed the overall cost of producing hydrogen to be significantly reduced through the capture and use of both the heat energy and by-product recovery.
About Hydro Environmental Resources
Hydro Environmental Resources, Inc. holds the rights to the Electrical Chemical Hydrogen Fuel Reactor (ECHFR), which is one of the first hydrogen reactors that eliminates the need for an outside energy source to produce a pure commercial-grade of hydrogen at low pressure. This proprietary process delivers a highly mobile, more cost-effective and physically safe production of hydrogen than alternative methods which require outside energy sources such as electricity, solar power and fossil fuels. The Company (HERI) was founded in 1998 with the primary goal of exploring avenues to improve the global environment through the development of safe and efficient methods of alternate energy production. The HERI team is focused on the production of alternate energy in the form of hydrogen gas, heat recovery, and waste treatment, clean and potable water, through its breakthrough technologies. Today the ECHFR can provide environmentally safe and cost-effective hydrogen and heat energy to meet the needs of the enormous alternative energy industry.

Opens Four Sites in Moscow to Participate in Phase II Clinical
via CDS
January 21, 2004
Trial to Treat Patients Suffering From Peripheral Vascular Disease
Endovasc Inc., a drug development company that pioneers new cardiovascular and metabolic drug therapies, is pleased to announce that Liprostin(TM) has been shipped to Moscow to be used in the Company's multi-center phase II clinical trial for patients suffering from Peripheral Vascular Disease. Four clinical sites in Moscow have begun screening patients suffering from peripheral vascular disease (PVD), including critical limb ischemia (CLI) and intermittent claudication (leg pain), but do not require angioplasty and are ready to begin treating patients as soon as the drug arrives.
On September 29, 2003, an investigator's meeting was held at the National Hotel in Moscow. The medical teams headed by Dr. Boris A. Sidorenko of the Scientific Center of President Medical Center, Central Medical Hospital and Dr. Anatoly V. Procrovsky of the Vishnevsky Surgical Institute met to go over plans for the phase II clinical trial. Since that time, the cardiovascular teams led by Dr. Valery S. Arakelyan, MD, PhD at the A.N. Bakulev Research Center of Cardiovascular Surgery and Professor Sergei B. Fitilev, MD, PhD, at the Moscow Hospital of Glavmosstroy have also agreed to participate in the trial. All four sites have begun screening individuals for Endovasc's 120 patient, open-label, multi-center trial of Liprostin. Each site plans to enroll ten to twenty patients. Walking distance and leg pain will be measured over the three-month duration of the trial. Patients responding significantly to the treatment regimen may be recommended by their physician to continue the treatments past the three month time period established for the study.
CEO and President, Dr. Diane Dottavio stated, 'We are very pleased to be opening these four additional sites in this very important clinical trial. Critical limb ischemia is a very severe condition of peripheral vascular disease and there are currently no drugs approved for its treatment. More than 750,000 people in the United States suffer from the disease, which leads to amputation for 200,000 people per year in the Untied States. Additionally, up to 10 million people in the United States suffer from severe leg pain (claudication) and non-healing ulcers, both of which result from CLI.'
Critical limb ischemia is a disease manifested by sharply diminished blood flow to the legs. Endovasc's Liprostin is a liposome-encapsulated form of prostaglandin E-1 (PGE-1). PGE-1 is known to be a potent vasodilator and platelet inhibitor, as well as an anti-inflammatory and anti-thrombotic agent. The encapsulated
formulation (Liprostin) has been shown to improve the therapeutic index of PGE-1, positively impacting many areas of treatment, such as heart attacks, occlusive disease, ischemic ulcers, critical limb salvage, claudicants, and arthritis.
Based on the chart, at this time, this news is having no effect on the PPS,(.27).

the ref0, I got into ADZR a while back, but am out of it now.
Still, at .82, the chart looks strong.
just talked with the IR for ARES.........
First, I apologize for not showing my face around here for a couple of days.
I've been having some major computer and ISP problems and am currently shopping for a new ISP.....hint hint....:)
Late last week I received a card in the mail from ARES,(Ameriresources Tecnnologies Inc.), saying they had important news..
This little snail-mail campaign seems to have worked. The PPS is up about 100% in the past week.
Two things; They are within a week of closing on the EagleRider acquisition.
EagleRider, for lack of a better description, is a Rent-A-Hog motorcycle retailer with over 30 brick and mortar locations in the US.
This acquisition should bring significant revenue to ARES.
Second; They are offering a private placement of 1-yr restricted stock at .005.
That's more than 50% less than the currant PPS.
The catch is, they have a $5000.00 minimum,(1M shares)
Anyone interested can call them toll free at 1-866-878-7739
Ok, an easier one..a scrolling problem....
Since I installed Win XP Pro a couple of days ago, I've had more problems then I ever had with Win 95,98 or SE, not the least of which was that damn Blaster virus.
I was finally able to download the patch for that from Microsoft and haven't had a problem for ........hours!......sigh.
Now though, it won't scroll right. When I push the up or down button it takes "steps"...push once, one step....push several times, several steps and won't stop until I push the buton for the opposite direction.
I've gone into Internet Options/advanced and tried it with the "smooth scrolling" box checked and unchecked....makes no difference.
I've also noticed videos taking steps...
Any thoughts?
TIA
Bruce, thanks,but no thanks....
Win XP has a built-in firewall, which I have disabled.
I run virus scans on a regular basis, as well as EZ Cleaner and Spybot. Both do a great job.
I also ran FixBlast which cleaned out the Blaster virus I had.
But, Internet Explorer 6 has some problems I haven't found yet. When opening many webpages it will either not complete the download or it will only partially download.
I'm using a V.92 modem with a dialup connecton and I just checked it at PCPitstop.com
My download speed is 50.6 kbs and my upload speed is 111 kbs.
That's smoking for a dialup.
Last week I downloaded and used another Browser, Opera, which really improved the overall performance, then I switched from Win 98 SE to Win XP and haven't reloaded Opera .....yet.
tc, maybe not, but the firewall really seemed to slow down my online surfing.
I would rather take my chances and just fix it if it happens again then go through the frustration of sitting and waiting while sites download.
right now it seems to be working well.....I can't complain.
thanks though.
Bruce, Thanks...It's not often that someone comes along with a link that completely takes care of the problem. Yours did!
I used the Symantec removal tool and it deleted three infected files.
They also recommended a patch, which I installed.
Then, I went into the registry........and it was completely gone!(the virus I mean...:)
I then removed the firewall and now, everything is wunnnerful!
Thanks.
Help with Win XP please........
I've just installed Win XP Pro and am still fine-tuning.
Apparently they have a built-in firewall.
If I disable it I keep getting a RPC,(remote procedure call) message "initiated by NT AUTHORITY/SYSTEM" and my whole system is shut down and rebooted.
If I don't disable the firewall I feel like I'm using a IBM 486 and some websites won't download at all.
How can I disable the firewall without getting booted or get around the problem?
TIA
At .04, HYVR is up 60% today...eom
Wise, got me again..:). Why can't you ask me something like, "how's the weather?"......something I can answer?
IBZT, after just a brief look, it blows me away.
It looks like the OS is over a billion, but a good portion of that, if not most of it is held by insiders.
The one paragraph from the PR really got me;
he iBIZ Virtual Laser Keyboard attaches to PDAs and projects the image of
a full-size keyboard onto the surface of the desk where the PDA is placed,
making it easy to input text without a physical keyboard. In addition to its
mass market appeal, the Virtual Laser Keyboard is also targeting the
educational, medical, kiosk and ATM markets.
Star Trek......we have arrived.
(looks like my A+ training to build computers was wasted...:)
The PPS doesn't look like it's going anywhere in the next day or so, but dropped a little more AH, (.0385).
To look harder at this I would have to take a while and, I suspect, I would start getting excited. (I can't afford it!..:)
Wise, re IBZT, no, but I'll look at it..eom

Dan McKinnon is chairman and president of North American Airlines.
The suit charges McKinnon and North American with fraudulent concealment, breach of contract with respect to due diligence, breach of good faith, fair dealing and other matters.
Linchuck, re RCNC,...No, I lost interest in that a while back....forget why.
As for QTFV....The PPS may have bottomed and I would bet that they will come out with another PR in the next few days.
They have to make up for the hit they took on the Nicowater patent.
The OS is still around 50M, making the PPS volatile.
we'll see.......
MB, I guess I wasn't very clear.....
Nothing is harassing me.
My problem was that when I enter the IHub site and for each page that I move to........they don't donwload completely.
I don't know what CSS is and any "special" setting I may have in Opera still ramain to be set.(only been using it for two days.)
So far today, I've entered the site twice and it's working fine..........ARRRGGGHHHHH!.....:)
Linchuck, the whole website isn't downloading completely.
I've already contacted Matt at IHub about it and he came back with some computer-geek answer that I don't understand.
I'll get him to clarify that......:)
FWIW, I'm in the process of dumping Internet Explorer and, after testing several other Browsers, have pretty much settled on Opera.
Of the few problems I'm having, most of them are newbie-dumb-self-abuse stuff..........LOL
Meanwhile, take a quick hard look at QTFV.
I think it bottomed yesterday and, at .034, is already up about 30% today.(I own it.......if you want more info)
lostcowboy, The problems that were developing with NN weren't bad, but based on my experience with IE, I could see where they were headed.
also, I deleted everything I could find that was connected to AOL. I don't think NN liked that.
Now, for two days, I've been using Opera and the only glitches I've found are those I've created by being a newbie.
It's much faster than IE or NN and, so far, problem free.
FWIW...I use a dialup with a V.92 modem.
I have also run several tests at PCpitstop.com and my ISP doesn't seem to be at fault.
The proof is in the pudding.......so far, Opera is working fine and if it continues I will talk to them about buying it.
Hi guys!...I'm in the process of giving Internet Explorer the boot.
I've tried a few other Browsers and finally settled on Opera, which I'm using now. I still have IE 6 installed because there are a few things I haven't, as yet, figured out how to transfer, such as my hotmail email account.
So far, everything seems to be working fine......except for InvestorsHub.
Whenever I open a page it only partially downloads. Sometimes, if I hit the refresh button, it finishes and sometimes not.
I get a page with no background color,(I'm set to use a light grey), and the upper information area, (mailbox, favorites, hot, tools, etc, all appear as plain script.......words standing alone.
I'm sure it can be corrected, but I need to know where to go to do it.....
Thoughts?
TIA
Dan

gottfried, because you showed an interest in the IE issue, I thought I would give you an update.
I used NN for about 8 hours and was, at first, happy. Then, they too started developing problems, ie: delays, slow downloads, etc........just like IE.
I think they didn't like me deleting all their AOL links..:)
I went back to square one, not knowing where the problem was, so I continued experimenting with Browsers.
I downloaded the Avant Browser, but that seemed like IE Jr. and may even be a IE piggyback.
Finally, I downloaded Opera and have been using it since.
It's very fast and problem free.
The only glitch is all the garbage they put on the screen.
My actual display took up only about 60% of the screen, but I've leaned that most of it can be changed or hidden.
So far, I'm a happy camper..........(version 7.23...:)
The free version, which I have, has a small ad in the upper right corner that I can't remove. (a lot like the original NerZero a few years ago).
I think their ad-free version can be purchased for about $29 and it may be worth it..........we'll see.
FWIW, I'm convinced that Microsoft is making is frustrating for people who use IE and their free services without subscribing to MSN 8 or the upgraded types of hotmail.
Little things, like never remembering my password and overall slowing.(I've even contacted their support a couple of times and only received doubletalk in return).
Tahell wifem!.........:)
