Hey Hawk, Who is ATRM, and when (at what price) did you first get in?
Do you know what they do?
TIA, F8
Liz,
I constantly hear how Datek/AMTD customers have trouble, and straight AMTD customers praise the site up & down.
We have about 50 straight AMTD customers in our group, and we have had very little or no trouble. A few use Freetrade by Ameritrade...no complaints there.
I've always suspected it might have to do with one's location in the country, but nothing proven yet.
I think Jake uses CS, and I believe has no problems. Location, again, I suspect, because people in FL & NY laugh when you mention CS (kinda like when one mentions AOL), because of the move away to what is considered an improved option.
Or, maybe the whole system is just very temperamental.
:8^/
~FTrade
P.s. Yes, those AMTD ads lately are kind of goofy.
Liz,
Are you a Datek/Ameritrade customer, or a straight AMTD customer?
They say it is not terrorist related (thank goodness), but, they don't know what caused the power outage...
So, how do they know? Ya know?
(i.e., if they don't know, how do they know it's not this or that, for sure...?)
~I don't know, F8
ATM, You may be sleeping right now, but I hope it was not too hot or uncomfortable for you last night.
Markets all opening, but, many people not showing up to work in Manhattan this morning (unless they were stuck there from last night).

Travel./AMTD ...
Other than profit taking (it has run up quite a bit), the only other negative I saw recently was the NASD disciplinary action against AMTD (kinda bs imho).
Trading slows in July & August, so I believe it to be a seasonal thing, and nothing really negative impacting it at the moment, IMHO.
Best, F8
Hawk, Definitely, & literally, could use a boat sometimes.
When I first moved down here, like you said, you could set your watch by the afternoon rain.
Over the past two years, like many places in the country, the weather patterns have changed. Basically, you get long stretches of dry weather, followed by long stretches of rain.
I miss those short afternoon showers. Even during the rainy season, you could plan outdoor activities, and know what to expect. Now, it's become as unpredictable as, well, the weather... :-/
...or, the stock market...
Presently, it has been raining pretty steadily for a week. One cannot tell if it's morning, afternoon, or evening outside.
Where's that Noah guy when you need him...?
~F2by2
Hawk,
Things are moving along down here, thanks. Today we finish fixing up my dad's car (still cannot believe that thing being lifted off the ground like something out of The Wizard Of Oz).
My parents eat at their clubhouse while they're waiting for things to return to normal (power, cable, phones, etc.). I did not realize how good the food is that the Red Cross is able to provide.
As I mentioned, I am very surprised & happy about the help that people are providing the tornado victims. There seems to be a story in the news that's mixing up Riviera Beach victims, saying they don't qualify for help. I'm not too familiar with Riviera Beach, but they are combining them in with my parents' community (which is incorrect). My parents' community qualified for Red Cross, FEMA, Salvation Army, et.al. The news is saying the Red Cross is not helping, and that they don't qualify for FEMA. Just in case somebody read about it, there appears to be something wrong about this story (not a surprise if you've ever been privy to a news story, then watched it get all mixed up in the news broadcast).
Oh well, very unusual morning down here in S. FL. No sunshine, indeed, no daylight yet today. Outside looks like 8:30 in the evening. Oh, did I mention rain (I'm sure most are tired of hearing, seeing, feeling...that by now...at least, in the east...).

>>>>Travelady>>>>
Wow, that was some long process Bill had to go through...I'm happy it worked out well. (I was only joking about the squirrel flea question. :) )
I remember a neighbor near my parents' home had a detached retina. I don't know the specifics, other than something went wrong initially, and she had to have the surgery again. She's OK today. (Must be tough sleeping at night, with having to keep your chin on your chest and all.)
Mom's surgery is Sept. 8th. Thank you for your help and kind words.
Best, Fred
Traveling/Markets,
My mom has about 2.5 weeks (17 days) before she has to fly. They kept pushing back her surgery date (stupid scheduling/customer service skills down here, if you have not heard).
She also has an astigmatism in one eye.
They said she can fly within two days of surgery, but that sounds a little rough to me.
Btw, do squirrels get fleas? heehee
Thanks for asking Bill.
Markets: I'm not sure why yet, but I like the sign of strength in late day & AH trading. Hopefully, it can carry through to tomorrow morning.
Dinner Time...actually cooking time...Wednesday is spaghetti day (well, any day can be spaghetti day when you're half Italian, and you don't feel like cooking too much this particular evening).
Best, fRedSauce
Thank you very much Travelady...
I'm sure my mom will take it easy (just concerned about air travel).
My dad would probably be like Bill. Fortunately, he can still spot a rabbit at a mile away. At 77 years old, my dad defies age & injury. If Bill needs any help, let me know and I'll send my dad over with his lawn mower.

Hawk,
I not only agree with you, but it is exactly what Arnold needs to do to combat the lack of experience issue.
If you heard Jesse Ventura speak about this yesterday, I think he was dead on about what's right and what's missing here.
The party problem can be the biggest handicap to overcome, IMHO.
Jesse sat in between the Reps. & Dems. Arnold will have to try to stear clear of party influences, even though they will have the final say. He will need a very strong team,...which is very possible...
~F8
Warren Buffett & Arnold Schwarzenegger, hmmm.
Also, what did the Prez say about the deficit earlier?!?

Travelady,
My mom is going for cataract surgery soon. How long was the recovery time for your husband? One doctor down here said two-three weeks, another said three days. (My parents are taking a trip soon afterward, and I was wondering if she'll be OK.)
In regard to the markets, it's a bad (slow) time for them right now. Below, I will give my detailed analysis of today's trading:

Edit (LMRI) (at bottom): Traveling... I'm sure you're aware of most insurance items.
It still surprises me sometimes that travelers don't realize they may be covered twice for the same item, and what happens if they cancel.
Two websites they gave were:
www.travelinsurance.com
(redirects you)&
www.quotetravelinsurance.com
Two most frequent issues (not fully realized), IMHO, is what happens if you cancel, and what to do with issues outside the United States (terrorists, fire, ship sinks, et.al.).
An interesting item concerns your homeowners policy covering your personal belongings (items inside your luggage.)
~F8
P.s. I only have one post left for today (just in case it looks like I was being rude :/ ).
P.P.s. Rheeman, Irrational Complacence? %}
So, Josh, does this mean (if you know) that the name Viva Air is officially retired?
(As of June, I still did not get a definitive answer.)
Thank you, F8

I own INVN for a while. I'm not familiar with UGMI. There does not seem to be much volume on it right now. Is the volume today typical (or up, down), if you're familiar with it?

HLSH - HealthSouth Makes $117 Million Payment for All Past Due Interest Currently Outst.
/FROM PR NEWSWIRE ATLANTA 404-231-1814/
TO BUSINESS AND MEDICAL EDITORS:
HealthSouth Makes $117 Million Payment for All Past Due Interest Currently
Outstanding to Its Lenders and Noteholders
Announces Discussions to Pursue Exchange Offer for Convertible Subordinated
Debentures, Subject to Consent of Bank Lenders and Other Noteholders
BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Aug. 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- HealthSouth
Corporation (OTC Pink Sheets: HLSH) today announced that, as a result of its
improving liquidity from its operations and asset sales, the Company has paid
$117 million, representing all past due interest currently owed under the
Company's various borrowing agreements. The Company said it currently intends
to pay upcoming interest payments.
The Company also announced that it has initiated discussions regarding an
exchange offer for its 3.25% Convertible Subordinated Debentures ("Convertible
Subordinated Debentures") which matured on April 1, 2003. A term sheet for
the proposed exchange offer was circulated last week to advisors to the
holders of the Company's Convertible Subordinated Debentures. The Company
owes approximately $344 million in principal to holders of its Convertible
Subordinated Debentures. The Company expects the exchange offer to be
conditioned upon, among other things, obtaining the requisite consents from
its bank lenders and other noteholders.
"With these interest payments, we have fulfilled not only a legal but also
a moral obligation to our bank lenders and noteholders," said Joel C. Gordon,
HealthSouth's Interim Chairman. "We appreciate the time our bank lenders and
noteholders have given us to address our financial situation. Thanks to their
support and patience, in just five months, we have been able to strengthen and
improve our liquidity while protecting and supporting our core clinical and
patient operations."
"We also believe today's announcement, in conjunction with the proposed
exchange offer, will help further restore our financial credibility. In turn,
we believe this will help to enhance HealthSouth's ability to make operational
improvements and implement growth initiatives," concluded Gordon.
HealthSouth said that it had $445 million of cash prior to the above
interest payments. This balance does not include any proceeds from pending
asset sales.

Thanks Anne-Marie. Even with all the destruction, it looks like they may get enough help for everyone.
It's just difficult for some to have to start over, especially the older folks.
One young man bought his home three days before the tornado wiped it out. He was spotted on the news, and some "angel" donated enough money for him to replace it.
My dad was on the news. I believe my parents were the only ones actually "picked up", while in their car, by the tornado.
(The back of a big guy's head in the background, well, that's me negotiating my way around some rather large puddles. Even the news lady was standing right in the middle of two puddles. "Reality News" %^))

Hawk, I trust you "almost" cleaned it all up, hehe.
Aha, reviewing posts I see "traveling" is GGS.
Yes, I'm still holding WBR. It appears to be gaining strength a bit after basing in the mid to upper .30's.
I own most of my shares at .21, and some around .40. It is a long-term hold for me, with some shares used for trading along the way. No real negatives yet as they progress on their business plan.
Just for the record, my humor is valued at wide swings. I think it's safe to say it's worth 2 cents (min.?). :-}

Hmmm, As I try to take a cursory glance at what happened in the markets Friday & Monday, these tired eyes do not like what they see...
I may have to wait till I'm more coherent, but, if I was around Friday afternoon, I may have decided to get out of most issues. Today (Monday) would have been a better day for that, but it's still too close to call. Knowing myself, I probably would have argued with me on Friday afternoon & Monday morning, trying to decide what to do...I'm glad I was not around, as I'm sure myself is happy too...:o/...oh boy.../o:
Anyway, considering financials and other leaders, it looks like it's close. They sold off some, but not enough to be convincing. If we do not get a convincing direction tomorrow (Tues.), I may start to lighten up on my positions.
Btw, what's with these energy companies? My electric bill is even going up, claiming the rise in natural gas prices are forcing higher rates. Somebody run over & tell MSSN that, ok? Ok.
'til tomorrow (or later, as the case may be, depending if you're here, or on some "other" coast), Fred8EDT
Hi All. Just stopping in quickly as we recover down here (actually, in my parents' neighborhood) from the disaster (which it is now officially proclaimed to be, a disaster area).
It seems to get worse as a few days go by and all the damage starts to sink in & be realized. My father's car looks like it was hit by artillery fire, and leaks have started in the roof of their home. (Kinda funny, it looks like a coconut got shot in their roof.)
But, that's nothing compared to homes & cars I've seen that were tossed around like in those disaster reports we have all probably seen on the weather channel. Unbelievable sights of destruction, that all took place in seconds.
The Red Cross, Salvation Army, and "strangers" from around the country have helped tremendously. I have never really witnessed people helping people like this in a live setting. It gives me a real boost to be a part of this race (the human race, that is).
I will try to rev down now (have not slept much in the past few days), and slowly catch up with things here.
Hope all are well.
~~FunneledOutFred
Rheeman, thanks. The funny thing about a tornado is, if you're in it, you don't see it.
If you did not know about it, or see it from a distance, after you're in it (& hopefully, survived), you probably did not know what it was (until someone tells you).
Oh brother, just got a news flash. The atmosphere is more unstable now than yesterday, and funnel clouds & hail are in my area.
Oh, that's it, they said tornadoes are now forming...
I'm outta here...take care all & good luck 'til I return (as soon as I can)...
Peace, Fred
Thanks Liz...
Earthquake or Tornado...hmmm...I hear Mars is nice this time of year...%)
The one consolation I have, is that my house was built recently with all the new building codes. It's supposed to be able to withstand the second highest level on the hurricane scale (I don't know the equivalent on the tornado scale).
I can hardly tell when it's raining outside, and my real indication of wind is looking at my flag on the front lawn. When the flag starts tearing (or, is missing), I'm outta here.
Who invented these natural disasters anyway?
~F8 & The Night of the Twister
Thanks Marcos.
Strange indeed. It's like this thing approached my parents' home, stepped carefully around it (thank you), and continued to wipe out everything else on the block.
Funny, everyone's evacuated, except the oldest couple on the block (my parents), who now are the only residents in the area.
My dad's fixing his car, my mom's helping him clean up (& search for their BBQ - rumor has it it's landed somewhere on the next block, lol), I gave them supplies, a generator, and a cooler for food.
Go figure. They stay overnight at my house from time to time, especially on holidays. Now, in an emergency with no power, I cannot drag them out of there. They're holding claim over their domain. %^))
"Now, where's that flagpole...& didn't you guys have a palm tree over there...wonder where the swimming pool landed...?"
~F2.5
Absolutely Anne-Marie & thank you...
Spooky is right. The weather guys, not that they can really predict tornadoes accurately, usually say when the conditions are present for them.
Afterward, last night, they said they did not see this coming at all.
Earlier in the day, I had commented to my father how we had very strange rolling thunder, continuous for hours, just north of me...my parents live just north of me.
Weird, it was sunny & hot by me (89 degrees), and rainy & cool by my parents (75 degrees, just 8 miles away).
Finally found something to rival an earthquake (not that I was looking, mind you).
ATM, I'm going to respond to Ron's request by asking you guys to make room in case we come back north. Got a spare house on your block?
~Level F2+
Thanks Hawk.
It was a little worrisome last night when the local news (not very bright down here) first reported no damage & no injuries, and for the previous two hours I received nothing but phone calls from friends & family about damage & injuries...
Streets were closed for miles and I-95 was a nightmare. The police were in a panic (they're not very bright either).
One officer told me to park my car, and walk the four miles (in the rain) to check on my parents!
He was not doing a good job blocking the road (speaking with a girl on the sidewalk and leaving the road pretty well open), so I just waited a bit, then slowly drove by him and got within a few blocks of my parents.
Digging a ditch may not be a bad idea...
Thanks again, F8
