Has to be hosted publicly on a site (tiny pic, et al) where people can access the picture/file. Your computer unfortunately won't work for that purpose.
Right. And please tell me who else in the industry is building a 150 algae farm with CLIENT MONEY? It's a brilliant business model, honestly brilliant.
They don't have to wait for a venture capital firm to step up, don't have to wait for government dollars, don't have to get cleared for bank loans.
Once they're up and running with the bugs worked out of implementing these farms, they can build them as fast as they can line up investors.
And they can maximize profit by producing strains of whatever is in demand. All the while, not having to take on any debt unless they want to.
Not that you could invest in Sapphire even if you wanted to, but if you want another reason to invest in BEHL instead of the competition, how about...
1. A $9 Million dollar market cap, with reports of double that amount in revenues waiting on the sideline right now.
2. A CEO who's connections and scientific expertise are a perfect marriage to our engineering developments.
3. The fact that we're going commercial without being $100 million plus in the hole with loans, venture capitalist firms, etc.
4. We have a controlled, fully-automated, harvesting environment, while most of the big boys either have open ponds, or use brewing equipment to grow the algae. Both methods many times more expensive and less efficient than our own.
Honestly, this list goes on and on.
(not directed at you BG, just adding to your post.)
I'm curious to see what the bio-cam will look like on the new site. If it's done right, it could be a huge selling point to draw in new investors (and clients).
No one else is doing it either. And in a new industry where people are looking for proof before they buy or invest, it gives them a great reason to pick up the phone and take the next step towards plunking down some cash.
Would make for a good news story, too.
Pretty sure you won't get that chance at .008, but good luck to you!
I don't think there's a large discrepancy though. On our largest volume day in the past week, we had more buys. And that day we traded only 5+ million shares. The other days have been 2 and 3 million share days.
To low on volume to determine anything IMO.
A quote from the article...
"Promotional material claims that the plant will reach commercial demonstration scale by 2012, commercial scale by 2018, and by 2025, 1-million gallons of “green crude” per year will come gurgling out of the plant."
...
Seriously?? So in FIFTEEN years they'll produce 1 million gallons?
If gas costs even $10 a gallon at that point, they'll have spent $100 million dollars (half of it on loan from the govt) for a $10 million annual return???
I'm not so sure we're behind in the race anymore.
Interesting article about Sapphire's plans to build a $100 Million demonstration plant in New Mexico. Makes me feel pretty good about where we're at right now relative to the competition, especially since they'll be using open ponds in the desert
Check it out - a lot to love about this article if you're in BEHL:
http://elpasoinc.com/readArticle.aspx?issueid=278&xrec=5087
If you're referring to the certification from the NAA, BEHL doesn't need it to sell product. Certifications only state that the product in question meets the standards of the certifying organization - in this case, the NAA. It's a nice thing to have (depending on how strict the criteria are), but not necessary by any stretch. It may not be worth anything at all if they don't apply some strict standards to the cert process.
The only thing BEHL needs to prove to a client is that they can deliver what the CLIENT is asking for. No one else. If it's used as part of a drug, then the client will have to make sure the end product meets FDA standards, etc, but from our point of view, that just means delivering a CLEAN strain of whatever algae the client orders.
IMO we've rectified this contamination issue with the construction of the sterile lab environment.
They're not "against it" ... they're just looking for a better/more efficient option. Probably one that is much more scalable as well.
In the past 8 months they've improved on their PBR tubing, the PBR turns, the monitoring system, the harvester (modified the one from Algae Ventures), the lab equipment, the list goes on and on...
This improvement is just the next in line, and won't be the last.
They are different units. The harvester dewaters, and the extractor takes the oil out. I've not seen a unit yet that does both.
Some extractor units press the oil out of the dried algae like a juicer, and one at least (origin oil's) separates while in water. I don't think we'll see an all-in-one unit for awhile. Too much room still for the industry to improve on both processes separately, and given the different uses for algae, an all-in-one might be less flexible for producers to maximize output.
I think it makes sense to go outside the U.S. as well. First off, you go where the money is. Second, being able to prove that they can remotely manage a farm from across the globe would make a huge statement about their product, and assuage concerns of potential clients overseas. Third, they'll have to prove the concept to get Solutions 28 off the ground.
My personal opinion is that people are waiting to see confirmed results. PBR up and running. Some contracts, etc.
I also think that there are bigger investors that are waiting to see with their own eyes, a working PBR. Once they've seen it, you can bet we'll have some brand new money coming in that our stock has never seen.
There's only so many companies doing what we're doing that are:
1.) Publicly traded.
2.) Producing any revenues at all.
Once we prove that it works, bigger money will bet that we can sell it. Once we sell it, we'll have leaped ahead of most companies in our industry. If we become profitable by year end, as is the goal, we'll be in truly rare air in a booming industry.
Big money doesn't get in the game until the results are in. And we're getting close to revealing them.
Exciting times indeed.
great point, Steve. plus, no reason to be impatient by selling at the bid going forward, there's years of upside in front of us.
Didn't get a chance to read these when you posted earlier. Great articles.
Amazing how many algae-centric articles there are on a given week these days. The frequency as opposed to this time last year is amazing. And the tone has changed from "if" to "when" regarding the algae boom.
Exciting times indeed.
BigBake - the Bill Sarpalius board seat is no longer on the table, correct?
Unfortunately I was out of the country for the SH meeting in Feb, but thought I've read since then that it was now a dead issue. Is it dead, or are we still awaiting an answer from Sarpalius?
TIA.
Nevermind, it was Oil & Gas Review (not O&G Magazine). For those that have not seen the article, it's on page 44.
http://issuu.com/oeronline/docs/ogr_jan_feb_2010
Does anyone have a link to the oil and gas magazine article where it mentioned Sapphire and Biocentric as leaders in the industry? It was a first paragraph mention, I believe.
Spent an hour trying to find it, but could not. Almost certain it was Oil & Gas Magazine.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Funny link I found. Just goes to show that algae is is breaking out whether people like it or not.
Scroll down to "7:41 p.m." on the page...

Yeah, it'll be the most exciting "watching the pot boil" moment I've had in awhile! lol.
takes two weeks - i believe - to begin harvesting the algae. so if it's up today, i think we'd barely be able to detect the green by monday. at least that was the case with V1. possibly the innoculator will speed that up, but V1 (with no innoculator) was 2 weeks.
he doesn't seem to abandon ideas. there have been a few from a year ago + that have come to fruition. my bet is that it's on the backburner right now, and his eye is on it just in case the opportunity comes up again.
if he's proven anything, it's that he's tenacious.
that might have been the funniest post of the year. it was between that post and inthemix's response to it! lol.
And look who's advertising front and center (er...right side) on the site. Not a huge deal, but nice to see Monique was earning her pay in the last role! lol.
http://www.algaeindustrymagazine.com/honeywells-uop-awarded-funding-for-co2-capture/
Looks like static advertising, so we've got the pole position on the whole site. nice.
PALG is not a good comparison either. There is one investment firm that owns something like 99% of the shares. Watch the volume on a given day - tells the whole story. Volume for today was zero.
It's tough to find a good comparison, because we're not set on bio-fuel exclusively. And as Dennis said recently, there's maybe a small handful of algae companies that are currently profitable. If we can be, it will give us a leg up on almost all of them.
"After ALL THIS TIME"...?? Seriously??? You know how many DECADES people have been trying to figure out a commercially viable solution to this problem?? How long do you think BEHL has been around??
I hope we discover the breakthrough technology for oil extraction, but honestly, it could be anybody are we're still golden. We need the oil extractor for SOME algae applications. Everyone else needs a low-cost way of producing algae for ALL applications.
If it's oil production you're talking about, they need us as much as we'd need them.
just read through the document. very helpful. exactly what i was looking for - thank you!
basically it states what someone had posted earlier this morning, which is that grants can be posted one of a couple different ways. one of which is posting it as income. the fact that it is possible to post that way helps value the company in my mind.
at a assumed PE of 15, and share count of 1B, every $10M grant would equate to a .15 boost in share price. Dennis has said in the past that he's not planning for grant money, but I think the new CEO could change that line of thinking - based on his experience in the biofuel industry. and if Dennis already has a connection to Bill Sarpalius, groundwork may be getting laid as we speak (lucky groundwork).
anyway, just letting my mind wander until the next bit of news...
It sure looks like it. Honestly, things got so hectic at work today I had to split until just now. Going through the posts I missed then heading home, but printed out a copy of the pdf you posted to read through tonight.
looks like a good find - much appreciated. I'll get back online tonight and let you know for sure.
thanks again!
Interesting. I emailed my accountant last night, and have not heard back yet (bad time of year to expect quick responses from accountants). I'll let you know when i do.
I'll have to check into how the gov has been giving money for green tech as well (i.e. what have the terms been).
Bottom line is that there's a lot of free money potentially to be had by producing biofuel. If that is part of our business model moving forward, we certainly have a lot to gain by garnering even a modest amount of grant money. Just trying to get a realistic sense of how much we could gain if things fell our way.
Thanks for the response - I'll post what I find. Get some sleep!
agreed. seems like it could even hold .012 into next week on no news, just because the PBR completion is so near.
the new CEO has restored a lot of faith in the direction of the company ... it's the first PR i remember since last summer that was better than anticipated. i think that'll hold us at the middle-to-upper end of your range until the next PR.
My opinion.
i don't think small businesses get "gifts" like individuals do. the rule for individuals as i read it is that WHEN the money is SPENT it is counted as income (whatever portion is spent at that time).
i just emailed my accountant for an answer, and will get back when i hear from him.
reason i bring it up is that if a grant counts as income, the clout that Dr. Brian Goodall brings to BEHL, his connections, etc, could result in government dollars down the line. if those dollars count as income, the valuation of our company would get a major boost.
at 1B share count, and assuming a PE ratio of 15, every $10M in earnings equals 15 cents in PPS. so one decent-sized government grant could be a major game-changer. or it could mean nothing if not counted as income, i suppose.
anyway, just trying to get a bead on this in terms of evaluating the company.
Hoping someone can answer this question: I've been trying to research this today, but haven't come up with anything conclusive...
Is a government GRANT (i.e. free money from the government - not a loan) considered income on the balance sheet? And if it is income, it would be reflected in earnings, etc, yes?
Seems to make sense that it would be considered income, but can't find data to back it up...does anyone else know for sure? If so, anyone have a link to more info?
Don't like to make the board do my dirty work, but I'm having a hard time finding anything conclusive on this one...
Thanks in advance.

500,000 shares in the first minute? Wow.
he meant .017, not 17 cents. read the rest of the post. he refers to 2-3 cents immediately after, and then 10 cents assuming the news drops strategically...
Point taken, Guzzy. Good catch. I've removed those two words before "PBR".
From what I can tell, the only additions to the PBR have been mostly monitoring/harvesting equipment - not anything to do with the actual algae growth process they've created. Except maybe for the 7-layer tubing. So, I went with the PR'd results from V1 they built in SJC. But you're right ... not the same as V3.
Time will tell.
Have a good weekend all!
Gator, thanks for the PM. Your swearing was low-class as always, but at least your argument was baseless! lol.
Product has been built, sold, and will continue to be on an exponentially growing scale IMO, once the PBR is up and running. In fact there's video of some of the products from the Vegas conference.

We don't lure a top executive from Sapphire Energy without total transparency into our business. He did his homework on BEHL. He HAD TO ... he's staking a very impressive career on it.
I for one, CAN'T WAIT to find out what he already knows.
welcome back!
here's hoping your that kind of wrong (the green kind) at every milestone going forward.
if you are, this will be a good couple years ahead of us! lol.
.0127 close. heck of a week boys and girls.
and to those that stuck with it...wow....
...maybe we should all have a drink of single malt, and toast to ourselves for holding the line the past several months. hard fought battles, to be sure.
the cavalry has arrived
