Lithium: Who’s right and who’s wrong on the price outlook?

It’s fair to say that in a 20+ year career of material strategy and price forecasting I’ve never seen as large a variance in both the near- and long-term as I have seen on price forecasts for lithium. A number of large investment banks are extremely bearish on the outlook for lithium prices, suggesting that they will go back nearly to where they came from in 2020, while industry specialists are much more bullish, with one producer suggesting to me a few weeks ago that prices would go back to US$80/kg. The small size of the lithium market and its...

What is Codelco's goal to buy LPI if it does not change its position in Maricunga at all
According to the statement of the President of Codelco before the Senate cited in the attached article, there is a problem not contemplated in the Maricunga Exploitation Polygon.
The more than 40 Mining Concessionaires with rights in the Maricunga Exploitation Polygon have not been considered.
Our vision to exploit Maricunga and give governance to the Salar
The role of the state or Codelco in this case should be to find a solution to the problem
The most viable solution
Call all the Mining Concessionaries that make up the Maricunga Exploitation Polygon and form a Mining Cooperative.
All this thinking about the development of a single large Li project in the Maricunga Exploitation Polygon
Thus, a greater quota of extraction could be tendered or offered to interested companies since it would contemplate the total of the Polygon as a resource and not only the area concessioned by Codelco and LPI.
Finally, it is always easier to supervise one task than several.
All this in conjunction with the Colla Indigenous Communities

The Chinese battery industry is humming. Needless to say another record battery production month. International demand for Chinese batteries accounts for about 20% of the market.
Pure EV production remained strangely flat as another EV price war looms. However, Chinese EVs are in big demand with exports in excess of one million units expected in 2023.

RJR Lithium: Chileans expand horizons in lithium extraction
By Mining Report , September 10, 2023
Currently, the Chilean company is evaluating the potential of more than 50 thousand hectares of exploration mining concessions in different salt flats within the Salar de Maricunga and Pedernales.
Looking to boost domestic lithium production, the Chilean mining sector is exploring new alternatives, and RJR Lithium is at the forefront of this initiative. The company is dedicated to the development of projects in unexplored areas, challenging the conventional notion that lithium is only found in the eye of the salt flats.
Currently, the Chilean company is evaluating the potential of more than 50 thousand hectares of exploration mining concessions in different salt flats within the Salar de Maricunga and Pedernales. This approach seeks not only to increase lithium production, but also to provide opportunities to small and medium-sized miners who had not previously had access to the exploitation of this resource.
Sorcia signed an agreement with RJR Salar to explore lithium reserves in 9,000 hectares in the Tambo salar, close to the city of Colchane, in addition to another 2,100 hectares already agreed in the Maricunga Salar, both aimed at introducing an innovative technology sustainable in the non-metallic mining industry.SORCIA CHILE SPA (SORCIA), a subsidiary of the US company, SORCIA MINERALS LLC, reached a new agreement with RJR SALAR SPA (RJR), to expand the territory to explore lithium reserves in 9,000 hectares of the Salar de Tambo, near the town of Colchane, border with Bolivia.
This agreement is in addition to the one signed in May, also with RJR SALAR SPA, for the exploration of another 2,100 hectares in the Salar de Maricunga, Sorcia intends to utilize an innovative, highly sustainable technology, developed by the Canadian company, INTERNATIONAL BATTERY METALS (IBAT), and licensed by Sorcia Minerals LLC. This technology allows for the production of lithium through Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE), without utilizing evaporation ponds, and recovering and reinjecting more than 90% of the extracted brine in its natural state, so the absorption of water resources are minimum.
The Company has been provided with an update from Sorcia Minerals LLC ("Sorcia Minerals") whereby its subsidiary Sorcia Chile SPA ('Sorcia") has reached an agreement with RJR SALAR SPA (RJR) to exploit over 2,000 hectares for lithium in the Maricunga salar, in the Atacama Region using IBAT's innovative sustainable technology.
IBAT continues to work with Sorcia on the construction and introduction of its innovative and highly sustainable technology into Chile. Once Sorcia has obtained appropriate environmental permits, IBAT's extraction units will be deployed at the salar to begin commercial lithium production. IBAT's innovative technology provides numerous advantages including;

The salt flats of northern Chile are an important source of lithium and other saline compounds, which makes us a key country for the production of this mineral.
Today we want to make a stop at the Salar de Pedernales, a natural monument that generates income from tourism in the area. In addition, it is one of the 18 salt flats in the regions of Antofagasta and Atacama that have been studied and whose potential is already documented.
Would you like to know more about the salt flats of Chile? Leave us your comments! ✅

Part 6 Tesla Corpus Christi Lithium Plant Deep Dive Video (3 production strategies Tesla will use)
7,771 views Premiered Sep 12, 2023 TESLA LITHIUM REFINERY
Part 6 of my Lithium Refinery Deep Dive Video Series
This is part 6 and is the last video in this series! This has been a much more detailed and lengthy process making this series than I had originally expected, but I hope you are enjoying them and learning something along the way.
This video has a lot of detail and is very technical in nature. I discuss chemical processes and symbiology, I draw reference material from a variety of technical and scientific papers and other out-of-the-mainstream sources.
I tried to find a good balance between too deep of a technical dive, and being too superficial as to provide little value and gloss over too much of the complexity involved. I hope this helps give you a deeper understanding of the major challenges Tesla is undertaking with the new Lithium Refinery.
In this video, we discuss three of the various feed stock inputs and processing methodologies Tesla has in mind, starting with the initial Spodumene to Lithium Hydroxide production. This is the process Tesla is constructing right now and envisions production beginning in later 2024 and into 2025. as part of the initial processing operational capabilities for this plant. We talk about the ways Tesla is planning on differentiating these operations from the more current and "traditional" industry standards.
I also discuss Tesla's desire to accept battery "Black Mass" as a future feedstock, what this is, and how they may acquire and then build and/or integrate this into the initial refinery design. Associated with this, I also provide information about current and possible future partnerships Tesla has with other industry leaders that most likely are providing the expertise, knowledge, and tools Tesla needs to take on this project and meet their expansion goals.
Finally, I talk about the more theoretical lithium extraction from clay material first discussed at the Tesla's Battery Day in 2020, how this process might work, and the two most probable methodologies that would be involved.
I know this video is very technical and deep with information, but I hope you find what I cover, the information presented, and the various illustrations and discussions helpful and interesting!
28 August 2023 Tesla Lithium Refinery Plant near Corpus Christi, Texas Update

Tesla’s New Lithium Refinery Plant is located near Corpus Christi, Texas!
I was able to head down to the Corpus Christi Lithium Refinery Plant construction site, almost four months since the official groundbreaking event took place on 8 May 2023.
Wow, there has been a TON of work and changes since then, with a large area having been earth worked, footings, trenching, ponds, construction trailers and Tesla office trailers, sprung structures, and even vertical construction with concrete pours!
Timestamps:
Drone flight overview with discussion & illustration: 0:06 to 3:51
Drone flight footage & infographics: 4:18 to 20:43
The flight began with some gulf-coast fog, but it was already clearing when I started the flight and eventually became sunny with great visibility. You'll note this transition in both the images above and the video itself.
Despite the fog, we get to see a lot of details around the site, with some very interesting large equipment assembly, active concrete pours, the iconic "Tesla Lithium" sign used during the groundbreaking and much more!
Since this is my first flight here as well, I took the opportunity to do a perimeter flight around most of the areas with construction and major changes since the groundbreaking and then closer views of the main refinery construction site itself.

Chile, is thinking mining to batteries.
🌱1st tranche of the energy transition 👉 focus on producing the highest quality lithium with the highest ESG standards.🌿
Another reminder to get our interests in Argentina and Chile producing soon ..
#Chile as usual, is at the forefront of thinking in #Latin America👉This time with regards to battery manufacturing.
🔋⚡️Chile could become the 🌍’s 2nd largest market behind the US, for storing renewable energy.
🔻🔻That is thanks to a government policy decision to support the development of that industry in the 2nd tranche of the energy transition, according to British consulting firm Interact Analysis.
🔴🔴Acc to the govt plan, some 51 renewable energy storage projects should be up and running btw 2024-2026 to add 3.9Gw capacity to the system.🔴🔴
Very smart decision👉👉 to create a niche down the value chain 👈👈, as opposed to adopting the Quixotic task of competing with China and others, in the increasingly crowded and uncertain batt production field.
🌱1st tranche of the energy transition 👉 focus on producing the highest quality lithium with the highest ESG standards.🌿
🌴2nd tranche: develop niches down the value chain, such as Chile’s renewable energy storage plan.
Kudos to 🇨🇱!!
