not yet. my buddy hasnt called back yet. and its in the 70's so im not pushing him YET!
Did you get it fixed yet?
Phil
Always glad to help when I can.
I just looked at my thermometer. 72º inside and 54º outside.
Last night I got a little chilly so I had to pull a cover over me.
I usally just pull the covers back and just sleep on top of the sheets with nothing covering me.
Nice to have the extra rags when you need them.
LOL
Good luck,
Phil
the girlfriend keeps leaving the house when i go down and work on the furnace, she thinks im going to blow the house up, lol! ive tried to tell her i checked for gas leaks or build up and there is none so as long as i dont mess with any gas lines everything is ok but she dont believe me. she thinks you have to pay someone else to fix everything for you
The blower will always come on first to clear out any excess gas build up. Otherwise your house goes poof while it waits for the igniter to light the gas. Then when it does, BOOM.
ill see if that will work thanks
It's the igniter. When the thermostat calls for heat the blower comes on first to remove any residual gas fumes. At the same time electricity goes to the igniter to get it hot enough to ignite the gas. If you have any steel wool you can clean the igniter and see if that will then fire the gas. Carbon build up is often a problem. If that doesn't work then you need to replace it. S/B less than $100 when you're all done.
i turn the thermostat up to 80 and the blower comes on but no glow. i have a friend coming over tommorow or mon. works in the field. besides it not that cold here yet. 66 in the house and about 50 outside. i can wear a sweatshirt until tommorow, lol! thanks for the help
It's not uncommon for an ignitor to burn out.
Get someone to turn the thermostat up while you are watching the ignitor.
If it doesn't start glowing, most likely it is burnt out.
You can disconnect the wires from it and do a continuity check and it should tell you if it is burnt out.
There is always a chance it could be the thermostat, but that is highly unlikely.
Phil
thanks phil, ive checked the breaker, the on/off switch, the on/off on the gas valve, i have a ignitor but i dont see the ignitor glowing. i have a few calls out to friends in the biz. hopping at least one of them calls back tommorow, as it being sat night both of them are probably in no condition to work on a gas furnace tonight. thanks again!
Do you have a pilot light on the heater, or an ignitor?
If you have a pilot light, make sure it's on.
If you have an ignitor, make sure it's glowing.
There is also a thing on a some gas heaters called flame sensors that sometimes go bad, and there is a gas solenoid that can go bad.
Too many things for a novice to screw around with, especially since it is a gas heater.
I can only assume you have already checked to make sure the gas valve is turned on, and that you have a supply of gas to the heater.
One other thing.
I have a wall mounted gas heater in my garage, and the first time I turn the gas on in the winter time, I have to stand there and hold the control knob on for a really long time and keep clicking the ignitor to get the pilot light lit.
Good luck,
Phil
its not cold yet. but im about to go looking for my friend here real quick
Something similar happenend to mine last year...Tech came to check it out & found a bad sensor...
He replaced it & she's been working fine ever since....
KNOCK ON WOOD!! LOL
im having trouble with my furnace. the blower motor comes on but im not getting any heat. it has an electric igniter. i dont smell any gas. its a lennox g11e. any advice would be welcome. i have a buddy thats in the business but cant get ahold of him right now, thats why im not calling a repairman until i absolutely have to. thanks in advance
LOL...the company I worked for made me build my own
scaffold...and at that my own FREE FALLING ZONE...incase we
or the 2.12 gave out...we had ahh place to land!
On top of seeing dubble!
It was horrible.
When we tore open a bag of that old "rock wool" insulation, we had to break it apart to spread it.
That was after we worked our asses off to get the bags to the attic.
Back then there was no such thing as folding attic stairs.
At least there were none in the houses we worked in.
Phil
I feeeeeeel DAT'!!!
after yah said that....I do remember eating insulation in dem
4/12 pitched..tri-level cribs...@130 degreez, too.
wasn't bad cuz it was dahh pink panther...LOL!..eeek!
Meyy-yewww!
Smoke,
When I was a young teenager, I grew up around a family of homebuilders.
They frequently paid the neighborhhod kids meager wages to do the things no one else wanted to do.
Two of the ones I absolutely hated were digging footings and insulating attics.
During summer "vacations" from school, we would work for them to earn some spending money.
I remember insulating attics with the old bag wool insulation when it was 100 degrees outside and probably 130 or more in the attic.
When we got done we would probably earn enough to ride to the store on our bikes and buy a Coke and a cupcake.
And a half dozen showers wouldn't stop you from itching because the insulation had gotten into our pores.
Now if I need some insulation to be done, I hire someone to do it.
I don't do insulation.
Phil
Ahhhh>...that's ahh gr8 thang to say...I to, have missed the
Good Ole' Larry!...And yur E-mails...but thats what Summer is
all about...Party...WEEEEEE...and Pimp dah CHIKKIEEZZZZ!!!
You hound Dawggie YOU!
Not too bad .... Getting caught up ... and been outta-town for a few .... I've missed ya ...
OHHH yah...
mucho better and welll...on 2 feet again..and kikkin out some HOME work lately
Hows yah doin in TUCKY?
I'm jus fine Bud ... 'Bout you ... ?? .. OK .. ?
YO BUDIIIE!...How yah kikkin it?
~~~~ Todd ~~~ .... !!
YAh..true...!!!
maybe....
POOSH IT!
LOL!
How else would you get insulation out of a can if you didn't squirt it?
LOL
Phil
Squirt????...Bwahahaha
That sounds....mmm
I cant sayzzz it!...Anyway...I used to do it for a
living...but we drank lots of beer while we worked..SOOOO!,
yah know...yah cant has everything..LOL!
I don't mind painting,
But I don't do insulating, unless I can squirt it out of a can.
LOL
Phil
MAN!...PAINTING and INSULATING!
What ahh pain in the ass!
Cant wait to finish..LOL...WEEEEEEEE!!!!
A man walks into a hardware store, and asks for canary-yellow paint. When the man behind the counter inquires why, the man replies that he wants to paint his parakeet and enter him into a canary-singing contest.
“Man, you can’t paint your parakeet, you will kill him!” said the man behind the counter. “No, I won’t,” the man responded. “Buddy,” retorted the worker, “I bet you ten dollars that you will kill that bird if you paint it.
The man accepted the bet, bought the paint, and was on his way. A couple of days later, the man entered the store again and laid ten dollars on the counter. “So,” said the worker, “The paint killed him?” “Indirectly,” said the man. “He handled the paint okay, but didn’t survive the sanding between coats.”
When my wife goes off shopping I find the 4-5 hours she's gone eternal bliss to drink beer, and putter around the house undisturbed.
are you crazy!
Since you claim to be a cash cow, let her go shopping.
If you ever figure that out you'll be a millionaire in no time.
LOL
Good luck,
Phil
anyone know how to fix a woman? i think mine is in need of repair. seems to have an emotional crank case thats out of line, and a voice box that seems to have too much volume
You need an HVAC person. Heating ventilation and air conditioning. They will be able to figure out the electrical part as well.
It sounds like you're having problems with either the fan or the condenser unit.
How old is it?
If you're worried about getting ripped off look in the yellow pages for a Trane dealer who does repairs.
In that case, try the new breaker, it was probably fatigued before you had the system cleaned, and now all you need is the new breaker.
JMO
The filter and all that gunk has been cleaned. It runs a lot better now but still trips.
Dunno if this info helps, but last summer it would only trip when it was EXTREMELY hot out then even then only once at most every 3 hours. Now it's not that hot, but as soon as I started using it, it would trip and trips often.
OBTW, if it's tripped that many times, have someone kick on the air while you have a meter on the breaker to see what your statrt up 'draw' is on the switch, this will tell you if you're drawing too amperage on start up, then you;ll know if you have a problem. OBTW, I've seen units draw too much because they can't breathe', this can be a filter, or a dust heavy duct system.
Thanks! Will try to replace it today.
It's a simple 'plug and play' type of install. You simply pop the old one out, and the new one in. However, they are a few different boxes, they control what breakers you'll need. Your local local hardware store should be able to help if they know what box you have, and the amp you are replacing.
Oops. Must have been tripped over a 100 times now. No idea the breaker's age.
How do I replace the breaker? (yup, I'm that clueless)
Raw, how many times has the breaker been tripped? How old is the beaker? I ask because a lot of people are unaware that beakers age, and they should be replaced if they have been tripped more than five times, each time they are 'opened' they open easier and easier.
It's worth a shot, and if you get your problem solved, don't forget to replace the breaker anyway, because it's been 'tripped' a few times now.
Thanks for the responses, guys. The air conditioner tends to run fine during the day for around 1/2 an hour then trips at which point I have to flip the switch. At night it will tend to work for hours without tripping and possibly the entire night.
Nope, don't have aluminum house wiring.
Most importantly, I am completely clueless when it comes to home repair on any level. I'm not even sure which end of a hammer I am supposed to be holding. Should I be calling an air conditioner repair or an electrician? Any chain-types you guys recommend or should I go with an independent? How do I know if the dude is trying to rip me off or not?
Thanks!
A smarty-pants answer could say: “Because it’s drawing too much current.” <g>
More seriously Raw, that may not be so.
I pretty much agree with Dan and Phil as to the possible causes.
Include a bad starting switch, or timer; whatever is used in your compressor motor.
More info could help zero into the problem.
How long does it take for the breaker to trip?
Does the compressor start and run normally for a while, or does it labor heavily briefly and then trip the breaker?
Id
Edit P.S.
Hope you don't have aluminum house wiring?
Raw,
Take the cover off of the breaker panel and check for loose connections at the breakers.
Be extrememly careful, even if you have a main breaker you can open/turn off.
You might also check for loose connections at the exterior disconnects.
If you can't find any loose connections I would suspect a faulty electric motor.
Some motors need regular lubing, others don't.
Do you have a package unit or a seperate air handler?
Phil
Maybe a bad starting capacitor on the compressor motor.
Also could be a bad circuit breaker.
Could be the compressor motor is starting to fail or short internally.
Maybe a grounding problem. Check all connections.
Why does the circuit breaker on my central air keep tripping? What possible symptoms could this be of?
No question there are people that would do that.
But not us.
I hope.
I know I wouldn't.
I hope that wasn't a load bearing wall they cut those studs out of.
LOL
Phil
