Wouldn't surprise me if there are people like that.
I prefer to think that we are not that sort of "fixers".
I know I'm not.
LOL
Phil
I really like your idea Id, and I'm very happy Matt listened to you.
thanks. Sounds like you had a hand in getting all the boards moved so our "poor" advice will be truly free.
At least they can't blame us for overcharging.
Okay I posted this morning. Told him not to go buy someone else's troubles.
Is an 89 Dodge Dynasty worth putting any money into it? I would say the value of the car is directly relevant to how much gas is in the tank.....
I figured you or Bob would get around to him sooner or later.
I don't even know if I would go to the expense of a head resurfacing on a car worth about $500.
Put a new head gasket on it, try it, and if it doesn't fix it, junk it.
LOL
Phil
P.S. Like I said, I thought it would be better to bring the subject over here than to abuse him on his first visit to the board.
Chickens! <g>
I totally concur with your and BnB’s comments, except while after getting the head checked for cracks, If it checked OK, I’d get it planed.
I’m trying to find some backup for future suggestions.
I dunno the probability of a block warp or crack.
Id
Which is why I didn't post over there.
I didn't want to insult him on his first visit to the board.
LOL
Phil
I know that,
And he said there was compression in the radiator.
He should be able to look at the head gasket and see if it's blown.
If he doesn't have water in his oil it's most likely a blown head gasket.
Phil
The problem is its an 89 Dodge Dynasty....
Water in cylinder 5.
Did he say whether or not he had water in his oil?
If not it's most likely a blown head gasket.
Phil
If it's a cracked block, he should junk the car. The engine would have seized by now anyways.
Probably the best idea.
If it was me I would have the head checked for hairline cracks at a local machine shop.
If the head is not cracked, I would put on a new head gasket and try it.
If it's a cracked block, he should junk the car.
But I didn't want to tell him that on the board.
It's his first time there.
Let someone else do it.
I already have enough enemies on Ihub.
LOL
Have fun,
Phil
He should put it on a flatbed and take it to Bob's.
I thought I'd wait and see if any of the real gearheads answered him first.
It could be a cracked block, a cracked head, or a blown head gasket.
But he already knows that.
Phil
Wake up. This sounds like a question for you.

Great tip Susie.
I know many people that have thrown stuff away because they washed it and it shrunk.
Thanks,
Phil
If the coils are covered in dust the coils are not doing their job and the compressor could overheat.
Phil
Phil,
I'm not sure if this would qualify as a Mr Fixit solution but for any other women who have shrunk a wool sweater like I did, this works!
I stupidly washed (and dried) a sweater that I didn't realize was 100% wool. It didn't even itch!
Well, it looked like it would fit a 10 year old when I took it out of the dryer!
I found a solution online and I figured what the heck......I can't wear it the way it is so I may as well try it.
Apparently when wool gets warm, the fibers lock together and don't let go, which makes the item shrink.
You can get wool warm or wet but not both!
To unshrink it, soak the sweater in warm water for about 10 minutes which will unlock the fibers.
Then you lay it out to dry naturally on some towels. Stretch the sweater gently to what it was originally and let it dry.
Thank you. Is it normal for the compressor (if it's what I think it is) to get almost untouchably hot?
MBR,
Although I did a stint as an appliance repairman,
I didn't work on freezers or fridges.
I wasn't CFC certified.
That said,
I have had the same problem with my fridge in the past and cleaning the coils did indeed work.
I would give it overnight before calling in the repairman.
If you are worried about your frozen food thawing out you might consider putting the stuff outside in coolers.
Here it would work for sure to keep it from thawing out.
Phil
Phil (Appliance Repairman)
Refrigerator/freezer question: Ours quit working today, it seems.
Kenmore Elite side by side. About 6 years old.
Fan still runs, seems very slow/weak. The compressor (black encased unit with a couple crimped copper tubes and wires running to it?) is hotter than heck. No cold air. Everything is thawing.
Incredibly, the wife (that keeps the house more sterile than an operating room) had neglected to keep the coils clean. :~) They were pretty dirty/dusty (I've seen worse) but are now cleaned.
Could it be as simple as cleaning the coils?
Any ideas what the problem could be?
Spelled right or not,
I know what you mean.
I have the Ibox blocked most of the time.
I can only take it in small doses.
LOL
Have fun,
Phil
Right Phil -- That I-box might could possibly put defibulators out of business. (Yeah it ain't spelled right, but I think you can interpret??)
OK,
At least you know where to get your heart rate up when you need to.
LOL
Have fun,
Phil
Yeah Phil .... Thanks .... but I don't have my nitro pills with me right now, so maybe that one will have to wait!!!
LOL
Not only is it permissible,
it is requested.
But if you want an Ibox to study,
Check out this one:

Have fun,
Phil
Yes,
It probably is.
But like I said,
Justly deserved.
LOL
Phil
Thanks Phil .....
Isn't his head already big enough????
LOL
Join in any time you feel the need GB.
We're glad to have you.
Phil
It's a well deserved compliment.
I learned almost everything I know about Iboxes from you.
Phil
Hey Phil spent over 20 years in construction doing most all of it but specializing in drywall most of it... Will stay up with the thread and help where I can...
GB
Thanks, King might be a bit much, but I appreciate the compliment all the same.
I'm thinking...
Isn't it funny how when you have stuff, people find a way for you to help them with it?
I often volunteer to move stuff for people with my pickup, but I expect them to help load and unload it, and I assist in the moving of it.
I don't allow them to assist me, IOW, I don't do it for them.
As far as keeping your mouth shut, no need to do that here.
Pete and I can use all the help we can get.
No one knows everything.
Phil
P.S. I added you as an assistant so you could help us get the Ibox set up. You be the Ihub Ibox King.
I will, I stayed pretty busy repairing remodeling mistakes and mishaps at one time. I also did the clean up, repair and remodeling for a few rental companies in days past. I know a few things, I just keep my shut about so as not to end helping a bunch of people out all the time.
Did I ever tell you about the time I owned a Dodge Truck and a Furniture Dolly in the same year? I sold them both at the end of that summer, HARR!!!
Thanks Gary.
Stop by anytime.
Phil
Best Wishes For Success Phil & Pete!
... Gary
I may be back for some expert advice too .... maybe you'll have one on staff by then ????
I caught your humor in that comment GP.
Funny how someone that hasn't posted on a board in over two years comes back and in his first post criticizes those that have kept the board active.
Screw him.
He can have it.
You know where to find us now if you need help.
Thanks for stopping by.
Phil
Watch out Phil and I have a bad rep.
Nice board Phil / BnB ...
But all this potty talk may give you a bad reputation , right off the bat!
Good luck with it!
I may be back for some expert advice too .... maybe you'll have one on staff by then ????
Kiddin, guys, kiddin!!!
later,
I didn't realize it at first either Pete,
until he posted this:
http://www.investorshub.com/boards/read_msg.asp?message_id=16568833
Phil
cound one that acts as a handcuff like thing thanks to your comod ;)
Nice work! I didn't realize he still had the flange part still in the floor.
Try Home Depot or Lowes for a replacement flange that fits inside the PVC pipe. It will have a smaller diameter then the sewer line PVC pipe.
