Between 1996 and 2001 the number of veterans collecting benifits rose by something like 54%. Now the Bush Admin wants veterans to pay for themselves. category 7 and category 8 veterans will fund 2.1B of the 2004 increase of 3B in spending in the funding for the department.
Supporting the military and caring about veterans are too different things. Liberals care about veterans. What do you think fueled the protests during the Vietnam era?... it was the boys coming home in boxes and without limbs. I had a girl friend who was in the military at the time and her job was to meet the plane with the bodies.
The "bleeding heart" is for human beings period... at least it is in my case.
To get a lifetime pension for just a few years of service is stealing from the taxpayer.
exactly. Glad we agree on that one. Too bad we aren't the ones making the budget cuts :)
The cut off point for a category 7 veteran is about $24,000.
"Draft legislation to change the means test by the VA in determining whether veterans will be placed in enrollment priority group 5 or 7. The current placement eligibility threshold is set at approximately $24,000 regardless of where in the country the veteran is living."
So if you are a Veteran with health problem but not technically disabled and make over 24,000 you help fund the VA.
