Surely you are not going to suggest that liberals as a whole have been supportive of the military - I don't think even you would go that far. clinton was open in his dislike and lack of respect for our military (other than for photo ops) and both he and his wife made no bones about it. That has been the general pattern among liberals, especially since the Viet Nam era. As for the "bleeding heart" syndrome, it applies mostly to their feelings for the rights of criminals, trees, and anti-American countries or groups - never toward our military.
"If we're going to cut something... how about lifetime retirement benefits for congress?"
On that subject, we finally find something we agree on. The perks congress votes for itself are nothing short of obscene and they should be forced to submit to the same laws and regulations they pass to cover the rest of us. To get a lifetime pension for just a few years of service is stealing from the taxpayer.
