"liberals" loathe the military? and don't really care about veterans? geez, you are way off base on that one. What happened to the "bleeding heart liberal" stereotype... can't have it both ways.

I also don't buy your argument about the reason being to get rid of excesses. My observation is that the VA does everything it can to avoid treatments beyond what they have to... case in point my friend who died of luekemia as a result of being in the south pacific after WWII in close proximity to nuclear testing done by the military. They would not even acknowledge that that was the cause. Many of these veterans gave up large pieces of themselves and will never have the same quality of life. They do deserve lifetime benefits regardless of their ability to pay.

If we're going to cut something... how about lifetime retirement benefits for congress?
