How come those idiots down in Sunnyvale can't seem to get a quad core demo ahead of Intel?
They've demoed privately for months already. They've announced they'll be giving a public demo along with Socket F. Which do you think is more important? Demos for OEMs or PR stunts?
AMD simply isn't as desperate as Intel. They can roll out QC from the moment Socket F launches, if they choose. Intel is stuck with their 2 x DC "quad core" hack job, putting on another benchmark-free blackbox "demo" for the press.
And, generally speaking, Intel is always making a big PR fuss over every little step they accomplish... "We've designed a 45nm SRAM!" "We've started building one!" "We've finished it!" "We took a picture of one!" etc., etc.
wbmw - Just because you didn't see AMD's demos in no way means they weren't at least as functional as Intel's demo. AMD has started playing their cards a lot closer to the chest than they used to, while Intel has started trumpeting every milestone.
And deriding/insulting others here whose ideas don't fit into your "logic matrix" won't change a thing. Intel desperately needs to demonstrate advances in the server realm. Even Brookwood noted that.
"Sounds like a great excuse for AMD's crummy execution on quad core."
Believe what you will. I will point out that AMD has historically been pretty secretive about these things, while Intel likes to trumpet every little milestone with press conferences. Just because AMD hasn't had a public demo doesn't mean they haven't been having private ones for a while. Per a very persistent rumor.
