"Do you envision a single guy on an assembly line fitting these together with his hands?"

For the first few? Yes. That is is what rework stations are for. How else are they going to do it? This demo is a science fair project. Given that Intel is the weakest in servers, they rushed it. As soon as they could get some units, however small, that met clock rate criteria, they did the demo. It is called a face-saving event. It doesn't have anything to do with being smart, it has everything to do with reading between the lines. Intel needs to demonstrate a superior server product. They can't do it 65nm vs. 90nm, they lose. So they extrapolate.

The "only 4" plot thickens!

http://news.com.com/2100-1006-6038148.html?tag=tb

The lines we're all debating:

"Rattner showed off a computer running two Clovertown processors. So far, only four have been produced. The company will spend energy this year tweaking the chip for mass manufacturing."

Have been changed to simply:

"Rattner showed off a computer running two Clovertown processors."

Now why would that be edited out? I can see two reasons:

A) it was false, or
B) it was embarassing to Intel.

I'm guessing B, because if it was false, Intel would have justifiably pushed for a retraction, not a removal. Yes, wbmw, we know you pick A.

This pissed me off enough to register and post a talkback... I don't expect it to last long.
