I have a friend who lived in Alaska for years and has a great bear story. This guy is an avid fisherman and spent many a weekend fishing the streams and rivers where he lived. He always fished with a buddy. On one fine summer day he was fishing and since he wasn't doing well he told his buddy he was heading up river to another area. So up the river he went. As he rounded a curved portion of the river, in an area thick with brush, he heard a rustling just up ahead....well what do you know, out of the brush emerged a huge boar....Brown bear!!
Yikes! As "unluck" would have it, he startled the beast, and as anyone knows, the worst kind of bear is a "startled" one. The boar raised up on it's hind legs and huffed a warning then got on all 4's and started to charge. Armed only with his fishing gear and a healthy dose of fear and panic he could do nothing. With the boar closing he said my knees got weak and I was sure the bear was going to attack him. As "luck" would have it, for whatever reason, the bear got within about 30 feet and then veered off and ran into the woods.
My friend found a "nice" comfy rock and sat down to shake and sweat for a few minutes. Needless to say...he was done fishing for the day. Too much competition!
