Background checks are fine with me too... but what isn't fine is the potential for creating a national data base of gun owners. That crosses the line and you can bet that if they do pass comprehensive background checks people who purchase guns will be on that list. The potential for abuse is enormous.

How on earth my friend, after the last 4 years +....12 years if you want to count Dubya Bush, could you use the phrase "extreme what ifs".....that simply does not compute with me.

I just don't think you understand how far down the rabit hole we have slid.

No offence though. And I respect your opinion.

I am torn about broadening back ground checks. It's true that many criminals will not be affected by background checks. It's true that criminals can buy their guns on the street---and usually pay a premium for them.

What could be easier than for a crook to go into a gun show and buy his next piece from an individual, at the market price?

My biggesat preoblem with the broad background checks, that the anti Second Amendment crowd wants, is that they will lead to a national gun registry.

Is there a fool out there that thinks the Government will not build a national gun registry? The safe guards of enhanced background checks pales when measured against the potential for door to door confiscations---using a national gun registry for an address list.
