Merlot tends to be a rather bland, mass market wine and pretty much the same across the board. You can have a good merlot but they lack the depth of taste and character common to cabernets and are very light weight compared to good pinots. All IMHO.
Wasn't that hysterical when he screamed, "We are no drinking MERLOT!!!!" Loved that movie.
I would be curious if anyone here knows of a good Chardonnay. I feel much the same way about Chardonnay as Lugan posted about Merlot. Tends to taste flat and uninteresting. Just cold wet oaky liquid with alcohol, but I haven't had much exposure except to table varieties or maybe a little better, if price be the guide.
