DON'T hire outsiders. The chances of an outsider not screwing up core business is pretty low. Choosing from the inside doesn't always have to mean it'll stale and nothing will change.
Even if PC business isn't the future and its all about Tablets and Smartphones, there's still servers which takes an increasing importance, and that's core as well.
Andy Grove should serve as an example that insiders can do radical turnarounds.
What I like to see is an even more accelerated push of X86 designs into embedded SOC's and whole reference hardware, drivers, and complete systems. Vertical integration that will use Intel's wide portfolio of technology, instead of relying on third parties and their slower pace.
It will be very disappointing if Intel fabs ARM processors for Apple.
