I'll actually back up Watts on this in saying it's nothing illegal being revealed. If anyone actually paid attention to the original contract details that were released to us, Apple didn't even have to really pay LQMT anything with the original licensing agreement until LQMT met certain "benchmarks". Furthermore, the $20 million AAPL did end up paying after LQMT met certain "benchmarks", came with additional disclosure that LQMT hadn't fully earned it yet and was still working on completing the "benchmarks" to earn it in good faith.
Simply put: the MTA may still have benchmarks that LQMT hasn't yet met, and with Watts being told that AAPL paid LQMT nothing for the extension, we technically already know this if anyone else paid attention to what they were reading. LQMT didn't fully earn the $20 million they were initially paid. This extension could really mean that LQMT is still trying to fully earn the $20 million they initially were paid.
With Salas only giving half the truth in this situation, he wasn't really giving away insider information, but rather, making people read between the lines instead of lying. Lying would have been worse.
