I agree. It's an instructive example of how an affinity scam works. I think they should have explained how he assured everyone they were one big "family", rather than appealing to greed. He used the military, and to some extent religion, to draw people in. And all along he was betraying their trust.

He was in the Navy; he enlisted in 1985, right out of high school.

I can confirm that Monk told myself and another friend in this mess that he was indeed in the military but NOT an officer. His exact words were " I was qualified to do the same job as an officer though". Sad thing was that he was talking to 2 people who had military experience, know how long it takes to make rank in the military and after doing the quick math we figured at best he was an E5. His being an officer was part of what swayed my opinion because my husband went thru the ranks of enlisted to become an officer ( its called LDO) and I know that usually ( not always) the ones with no moral fiber get washed out.

Monk has taken a lot of my retirement funds and I hope the SEC makes Monk pay for all the pain and grief that he has caused all of his followers/supporters ...

I joined Monk's list based partly upon his reported military background. I have always had such a high regard for those select people that are submariners. I mentioned my own 30 year military background to Monk, and should have been suspicious when I did not receive a welcome comment from his as was normal to anyone joining his list. Monk was known to be a submariner and used that "fact" to draw people in. I just wish the SEC would mention that "sales technique" in its paperwork. I also would love to know what Monk's actual military background was if any. Monks submarine experience may have only been limited to his bathtub.
