LG...Oh no LG, I do get it.
I am from NC, I have weathered two hurricanes in the past ten years, no one is ever really prepared to handle the impact of a hurricane until it actually arrives and leaves causing extensive damage no one thought would happen.
I do believe I saw the Mayor of NO telling folks to evacuate when it became apparent the storm was going to intensify into a catastrophic storm. I do believe he and other government officials went to the government and had FEMA, The Red Cross, emergency shelters put in place... I believe the officials did the best they could given time it hit Florida to the time it escalated to Cat 5. Hurricanes, along with other natural disasters are unpredictable, unfortunately after these horrific events happen, there always those who say "more could have been done."
For instance, the NC piedmont area rarely gets inundated with snow, we get blasted with 20 inches, and Raleigh gets shut down, there are a lot of northerner relocates here who feel Raleigh should have mounds and mounds salt sitting around and snowplows sitting collecting dust for five years in anticipation of the next storm.
My viewpoint is the officials did the best the could given the circumstances. What were they supposed to do....stock up dinghies in the skyscrapers or upper floors while urging people to get out....? Disaster is a disaster, this might have been prevented had the levees been re-uupfitted, upgraded, but that is still with uncertainty. Lessons can be learned from this, but I still believe the officials took the necessary steps they could in the timeframe they were allotted.
