hiker: New Orleans has been at risk for decades, long before W became President, long before 9/11. Of elected officials at fault, the elected officials of the region bear the second largest burden of blame, second only to the inhabitants of the region guilty of poor judgment with respect to who they voted into office locally and an obvious lack of interest in their own safety.
The New Orleans Mayors, elected county officials, the LA State Representatives and Senators, all failed the region. And more importantly, the people failed themselves. After all, they elected their local, county and state government leaders.
In short, the blame lies directly at the feet of the general population of the region due to their own apathy…

PS: Don't misunderstand, we must provide what ever aid is necessary, but we as a nation must learn the hard lessons these preventable disasters meter out as well.
