I think you are missing the point. It is the perception of the owner of a site giving the appearance of touting a stock. I am not saying that you do this BUT in the world your business operates in, it's all about perception. IMHO, you need to take a step back & conduct yourself as an owner of a business that provides a forum to discuss stocks & other thingies. Posting your stock picks, IMHO, is a conflict & conflicts should be avoided. I am not telling you not to trade stocks but your picks & the discussion of stocks is not something you should be doing publicly. You gotta decide what you wanna do...be an owner of a site that discusses stocks or post about them. From my standpoint, they are mutually exclusive avenues.

I appreciate the way you have handled TOS problems. You have acted promptly and, IMO, thoughtfully, often debating with disruptors and talking them into reforming without suspending them.

From my perspective, once they get suspended, I could care less what happens to them. From what I have seen the process that happens in Jail is a valid way to handle suspensions. If people who get suspended go ballistic, they need time to cool off. If they wake up to what the complaints are about and change their ways, then it's time for them to be restored.

I also have no problem with you or Bob talking about stocks or trading.

Just my two cents.

If a board did strike up that was active in MTON or CGO, I'd sell. No questions about it. Or before I had to make an Admin move, I'd sell.

Though at the time Jill was no longer a site admin, we (Legal and I) had an understanding that if an active board popped up about a stock I was involved in, I would get out of the stock and Jill would handle any admin duties involving that board. We ended up doing that in only one situation.

Feel free to do the same here.

Plus, I'll be honest. Do you have any idea what it's like to start a site because you like/love discussing stocks, then not be able to for 3-4 years?

Nobody here but me can truly appreciate that. I happened to be on SI to begin with because of my interest in the market and I was a very active daytrader.

Taking on the Admin role meant having to decide which of the two was more important to me because they were largely mutually exclusive.

Not only does posting about stocks raise the potential for the perception of bias (and the perception is nearly as destructive to a forum as the reality would be), it also doesn't look good to have the appearance of being busy with anything but the admin role during the day.

I'd be wasting years of productive trading lessons to just sit here and Admin and that's it.

That's the cost, IMO. But as a compromise, I'd suggest keeping your trading activities private. Keep in mind, too (as I was frequently reminded by Legal) that it's only a matter of time before your trading records get subpoena'd by a disgruntled ex-member. I'm not aware of it happening in my case, but I did have to send copies of my monthly account statements to GNET's Legal department.

What's this? My day to disagree with Churak?

Matt, if you want to write about stocks, by all means, do so.
