And the really sad thing is that all of the educators in our family are recommending against a career in education to their children. The only one leaning that way is my older daughter but we'll see where she's really directed after graduate school. College by the way, is ridiculously expensive. I think one thing that keeps kids from teaching is that they must make enough money to pay off their full recourse educational debt.

regarding your comment on change being noticable and for the worse, I can totally agree, Nick. It seemed as if those in charge were on a mission to remove everything that worked and put in things that did not. I taught at both the high school and university level as well.

Perhaps the single most stupid thing we ever did in the field of education was the no child left behind crapola and the testing program that went with it. The road to hell is paved with good intentions. The education system is full of things that were done with good intentions, but filled with unintended consequences.
